As soon as Jake settled, Charlie started petting; it was almost instinctual to do so. His fingers moved along the cat's back or started rubbing/scratching around the ears. It seemed nice enough to do as Jake was explaining his way of life.
"Interesting. Yes, you've probably guessed that many of us do not come from a matriarchal society. Not that the patriarchal side has done very good. I don't believe men and women are really all that different as all humans are capable of being rather cruel. I've caught just as many female criminals as male." He shifted a little, careful not to disrupt his new friend.
"Does it matter that she's not from your world?" Charlie's fingers slid carefully up to the collar, not to remove it, but to scratch around and beneath it. It couldn't be the most comfortable thing to wear. "Do cats here communicate the same as you? I would suspect so, as humans communicate the same, more or less."
