Secret passage ways ruled! Harley was so glad she had them put into her castle, and when she got out of this mess, wherever she ended up next, she was so going to put secret passageways there too. And maybe some secret rooms. It was really going to suck to have to leave this place, she’d gotten really used to having servants and stuff.
But there was no time to regret the loss as she raced down the hidden stairs, the hyenas on her heels. She’d asked about Ace, but none of the staff that had been in her bedroom when she darted in to get the Nitro-9 had seen the kid, so she was probably fine. Either way, she was on her own. Harley figured the girl probably bolted at the first sign of invasion.
Which was what she was doing now. Getting the hell out of Dodge, and she made no move to hide what she was doing from the staff. So they knew to get the hell out too, and if they didn’t, well then that was just survival of the fittest, wasn’t it? If some snot-nosed kid was kicking over your anthill, it was time to find a new anthill before the magnifying glass got pulled out.
Of course, Harley wasn’t an ant, so she was the one with the magnifying glass this time. Or, more precisely, the explosives. As soon as she was outside and made sure her babies were clear, she started setting up the charges around the base of the castle. She was neither as careful or as precise as she might have been at another time, but Harl wasn’t stupid enough to think that pair that was invading was gonna be lollygagging around. But even so, she took a moment to look up at her castle before she flipped the switch, taking time to say good-bye.
“It was good while it lasted,” she sighed. Then she pressed the detonator.
