What the hell? What the HELL? Harley had finally gotten a quiet moment to herself after that whole thing with the ginger beast of a man peeing on her castle, and now there was noise. Loud noise. Which Harl did not appreciate at all, since she was not the one making it.
“Go make that stop!” she bellowed at the top of her lungs. Nobody was going to be louder than she was in her own castle. Honestly, she wasn’t even sure just exactly who she was yelling at, but the command got a rather gratifying response as a whole phalanx of castle guard scrambled out of the throne room to carry out her orders. Harley grinned. It was hard, even when she was irked, not to like that.
But the noise didn’t stop. The banging not only continued, it got closer. She didn’t bother with the logical deduction that her guards hadn’t had time to stop the noise yet since she’d just sent them off. No, Harley just figured it came down to that old saying: if you want something done right, do it yourself.
As she slid of her throne with nearly boneless grace, the poise was ruined as her feet got caught in the bottom of the elaborate gown she was wearing. She didn’t fall, Harley had too much practice with tumbles of all sorts to just fall over from a little trip. But if she was going to handle this situation, whatever it was, she wasn’t going to do it in the stupid dress she was wearing.
Instead of heading downstairs, Harley went up to her room to get her harlequin costume out of the closet. And maybe grab some of that nitro stuff that Ace had given her. A good loud bang would put everybody’s attention back where it belonged, on her. For a moment, she wondered if Ace was still in the castle. Harl had given her a room. But if the Duchess was still around, she was going to have to fend for herself, and smart as she was, Harley didn’t think she’d have to worry too much.
First things first, she was going to change, get some things that went boom, load up her pop gun. Then she was going to go find out why her guards hadn’t made the noise stop yet. Enough was enough.
