Betty's eyes examined the nail polish on the girl's fingers before taking the extended hand. Purple? Really? Ok, the girl was nice, but she did need some basic advice on things like how to dress properly and what color nail polish was acceptable to wear out in public. Not to mention the shoes Betty had just noticed. Duct tape?
This poor thing needed help of some variety or another. It wasn't like Betty was going to just offer to redress her and teach her a thing or two about proper grooming, that wasn't her place. But again she found herself grateful that the girl at least had manners.
"Betty," she said, extending her hand and taking up the girl's in it. "And that's a very interesting color of lacquer on those nails. Its..." she searched for the word. Interesting would sound rude, as would darn near every other word that came to mind. In the end she settled on one that she though described the girl perfectly, "quirky."
