((If you guys want to continue up there for a while before noticing Firekeeper and Blind Seer, go right ahead! They'll be here :-P ))
It had been nearly a week and a half since the last time that the two wolves had set foot inside the house. The weather was lovely, and there were a variety of prey animals to chase and hunt in the park. Firekeeper and Blind Seer had spent a week and a half's worth of hot afternoons asleep in their den under the bridge, and ran joyfully through the trees at night, howling for all to hear.
Yesterday, however, Blind Seer reminded Firekeeper gently that there were others who might like to know that they still lived. Firekeeper had to reluctantly agree, though she did look forward to the food box whose proper name she still had trouble pronouncing, as well as the shower. Baths in the water outside were nice but never as thorough, and she enjoyed being clean.
They took longer than they might have to reach Charlie and Ted's house (Firekeeper couldn't think of it as hers, and the concept of possession was vaguely alien to Blind Seer when it was applied to himself) as they decided to travel during the day. Night would have been easier, but they tried to return the courtesy that Charlie and Ted paid them by coming back during hours when the humans were most likely to be awake.
Thus Blind Seer was panting and Firekeeper was sweating profusely when they reached the house. Firekeeper trotted around the side, finding the watering hose and turning it on. What a wonderful little device it was, she marveled as she so often did. She sprayed them both down, rinsing dirt and sweat off of herself and cooling Blind Seer, and they both drank a little before turning it off and sitting out front where they could both drip dry before coming inside.
Before Firekeeper could lean against Blind Seer and doze lazily while she dried, the blue-eyed wolf's ears perked up and his nostrils flared. "Voices," he said mildly. "And a familiar scent."
Firekeeper straightened, straining her ears. Sure enough, she could hear voices from inside, one male and one female. One was Charlie, she was certain. The other was female and familiar, though the memory danced just out of her reach.
"Hyenas," Blind Seer finally said, standing, his nose still twitching.
"Harley Quinn," Firekeeper said, finally recognizing the female voice with that clue.
Blind Seer shook himself off once more, letting loose a fine spray of the water that still clung to patches of his thick coat. Firekeeper shook herself briefly as well, though it didn't have the same effect, and opened the door, stepping through, smiling happily at the thought of seeing her friend again. Blind Seer padded in behind her, panting with residual heat.
