“Not exactly,” Jeannie answered. Honestly, she was rather confused about that point as well. “I have died. I did it once. After I came here. But then I got better again. I would be very worried about that, but many other people had that happen to them too, even mortals.”
She was not certain why the woman was asking her such a thing, but she must have a reason. It was a strange thing to ask out of the blue, but Jeannie did not consider lying. “I am sorry if you are confused.”
Biting her lip, she paused a moment then sought to clarify by confessing, “I am not immortal exactly, but I am ageless. And I have not heard of another like me who has died. There are things that are far worse than death, and those are feared much more. I do not think I have answered your question very well, have I? Would you like to ask me something else?”
As much as she hoped she could help Betty, the djinn did wonder if this was going to take too much longer. Her eyes darted toward the entrance of the museum. She really had wanted to see the art.
