When the clock appeared, Betty took a quick two steps back. What the heck? Where did that come from? She'd seen strange things happen over the year, but nothing compared to having a grandfather clock appear out of nowhere. Not even gravelings. Gravelings were old had, but this... this was unusual.
Just like the woman's clothes had been unusual. Still were unusual.
"Where... where did that come from?" Betty probably wouldn't have been nearly as taken aback if a watch would have appeared. That sort of thing could escape notice easily where Betty could simply have missed seeing it. But a grandfather clock. One didn't overlook a grandfather clock. Not in the middle of a sidewalk.
Then she fumbled back into her bag, looking for the post-it note to re-examine the time, Even though she knew there was no time written on it. Tucking it away again, she smiled again, eying the grandfather clock suspiciously before looking back at the girl she assumed was Jeannie.
"Thank you." Betty needed to make small talk until she determined if this was the Jeannie listed on her post it or not, but she wasn't sure what to say. She could compliment the woman on her clothes, but really, that would be lying through her teeth. There was some kind of Halloweeny quality to the woman's pink get-up and it wasn't good. But really, that was the only thing she had to comment on.
"That's an interesting outfit you have on. where did you get it. I love the color, it suits you."
