Blind Seer paused in playing, dropping Firekeeper's leg and sniffing the air. "What is it?" asked Firekeeper. Suddenly she could smell it too, something rank and animal and unfamiliar.
"There," he said, sniffing in the direction of the unfamiliar beasts. His hackles rose, and he sneezed. "I've certainly never scented anything like them before."
Firekeeper squinted, not willing to get close enough for a better look just yet. "And certainly nothing that I've ever seen before. They are on leashes, whatever they are, so I would guess that they are cousin-kind." Her gaze strayed towards the human holding their leashes, who seemed to be fighting the strange beasts in an effort to move closer to Firekeeper and Blind Seer. "I think I may know that female," she said to Blind Seer.
Blind Seer stepped in front of her, half as a gesture of protection and half out of curiosity. "Something about her scent rings familiar, but I cannot place it. You two," he said, barking out at the unfamiliar creatures, "What manner of beast are you?"
Firekeeper turned her attention back on the woman. "I know. From where?" As usual, after more than a few days without constant human interaction, her command of the language was rather lessened.
