“Oh, but it is not inanimate,” she immediately replied, straightening to explain to whoever it was that had approached. Certainly her new master must want her to do something for this person since it had put him in her path. Did it not? Perhaps not. But perhaps so. Obviously this was going to take some time to get used to. Learning to interpret her new master’s instructions might take some time.
For instance, as she looked at the man standing in front of her, she began to doubt that the city would need her to aid him. He looked as though he was more than capable of taking care of himself. Her eyes traveled up his form, passing over his face, coming to rest on his hair. This man was… pointy.
Yet, moments after asking for direction, he stood in front of her. That was not a coincidence to be ignored. So she must simply determine how to help him. Pointyness and all.
“But it is not inanimate,” she repeated. Lifting a hand to point to the light that hung in the middle of the intersection, Jeannie explained, “You see, it is red now. It was green just a moment ago. It changes. Is that not wonderful?”
Then she gave him a cheerful smile. “I am Jeannie. It is nice to meet you.”
Introductions were always a good place to start. Once she learned who he was, she could find out what he needed that made her master think that this man would need her. Then another thought occurred to her. As long as she had him here, perhaps he could tell her a few things. “Do you know where we are? Is it near Florida?”
