Hungry For Love [Cupid Challenge] (tag: Logan)
Jeannie paused on the street, holding the door open for a darling elderly couple that was leaving the diner. They were holding hands, smiling at each other, and the djinn did not wish for them to stop doing so just for something as silly as opening a door. She was, in fact, in a very light frame of mind due to the holiday.
More than one person that day had made the assumption that because she favored pink and red in her wardrobe, that she was enthusiastic about Valentine’s Day. That was not why she wore the colors, but she did very much like to see people being kind and helpful to one another. It was a little bittersweet, as Christmas was. Why could mortals not do that all the time, rather than just once in a while? She understood why they could not continually give extravagant gifts, but the little considerations could and should happen all the time.
She was also very in favor of being given chocolate on a regular basis.
Though no one had given her chocolate today. Nor flowers or a card. No one had told her that she was loved or cherished, nor asked her to be theirs. A number of things had happened recently to alleviate a great deal of her loneliness, still it would have been nice to have gotten at least a hug. Oh, how she missed Major Nelson!
Despite her light mood, she gave a little sigh as the elderly couple passed her and vacated the doorway. The lady patted her arm and thanked her, so Jeannie smiled for her and turned to watch them make their way down the street. Which was when she felt it. Something was off. There was another magical creature nearby, but it was not of a sort she recognized, and it felt… shiny. Like a newly minted penny. When most other things of her sort were very, very old. How odd.
Even odder was a sharp sting in her shoulder, but when she turned to look, Jeannie could see nothing touching her. Then where had the pain come from? It was most unusual! With a slight frown, she decided she did not wish to have her day ruined by running into something that was surely up to no good, no good at all. So she hurried inside the diner. It had not been her intention to go in, only to hold the door for the couple, but inside was away from whatever the problem was, so in she went.
Then stopped dead, just across the threshold as she noted that she was the only person in the entire place by herself. There were couples everywhere, and she felt out of place. Oh. No, wait. There was one man, sitting alone, on a stool at the counter. Perhaps his date had gone to the restroom? Though he did not appear to be waiting for anyone.
Well then. She would simply keep him company, then neither of them would be alone. As she made her way across the diner, her shoulder where she had felt the sting began to grow warm. Then tingle. Then the tingle spread until it covered her entire body. Jeannie felt as though she was sparkling, from the inside out. By the time she sat down on the stool, there was a very wide smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.
“Hello.”
