Charlie guessed that he was probably coming off either too strong or just too weird. He wasn't crazy, not too much anyway, so he just tried to smile and ignore the idea that she might want to beat him with her purse. Actually, no one had done that quite yet. He could only smile even more as her hand slid sweetly into his. His head tilted slightly while he gave her another look over, and somehow, maybe, he managed to look something other than perverted and creepy.
"My name is Charlie. You wouldn't have a last name that says your job, would you? I don't." His empty hand lifted, so that her fingers were now held by both hands. He just looked at her, smiling. "I think I'm going to kiss you now. I only let you know this because some people don't like being kissed so quickly after meeting. Then again, until recently, I don't think I was around anyone I really wanted to kiss."
One hand left off holding Betty's and lifted to touch her jaw, fingers just lightly caressing the curve. His thumb brushed over her bottom lip before nudging her chin to lift it just a bit. He was going to kiss her unless she protested. He didn't want to do something she didn't want after all. The clasped hands were lowered to allow him to step closer.
"Just let me know if this isn't what you want." His voice had dropped, gruffly whisper. He hadn't broken eye contact since he'd made the kissing announcement. He leaned in, lips so close to hers. "Just say the word."
