Charlie had gotten the call, and while he would have waited for Jennifer, he really did have to appologize for the fish - it died, and he had meant to take care of it. Things came up, like snow. Lots and lots of snow. He had to deal with crazy people, well, just one really. He also had to make sure Firekeeper and Blind Seer were doing okay in their new home, and eventually he was going to have to talk to Ted about the move in. Eventually. Right now though, at that particular moment...well, many moments in time, he had to look into a crime scene.
A man had been skewered by one side of a falling fire escape ladder. The ME could have called it a freak accident, and Charlie had a feeling he wad going to agree. But, then, it was possible someone had taken the time to set it all up; he had seen some interesting crimes, even before coming to a place that had zombie infestations.
So, there Detective Crews was, looking at the man who was still standing, the ladder had gone right through his skull and down. The look on the victim's face seemed oblivious to whatever had happened to him.
"No pain. Looked like he was having happy thoughts." Charlie actually smiled; happy thoughts at the end seemed like a good way to go if anyone asked him. He turned to leave the alley and stopped, a strange shooting pain hit him, right in the stomach. He looked down to see if maybe he hadn't gotten shot, but nothing was there. "Hmm, weird."
He shrugged it off and headed out of the alley, looking around. Actually he was looking up at the roofs to make sure he didn't see the glint off a scope. It would probably be a habit for a bit, but as his eyes dropped to street level, he saw her. His head tilted slightly, his lips thinned, his eyes narrowed, squinting in confusion.
