He finally got a smile from those lips; Baba was actually smiling. Oh, the rebellious side had taken over; it was demanding the smile. It was demanding that she give herself to this man who had cleaned her knee and who was unhappy that he did not have a...band-aid. Thankfully, the rebellious also knew that to push things too far might create something of a backlash.
The smile could have been faked; she was good at that, but it wasn't. He'd probably know it. She had killed in the name of the Adversary, and before that she had killed because the idiots didn't deserve to live. She was a force long before she became a high profile member of the Adversary's army. She was a force that could guide a life as well as end it.
Her hand lifted to touch his cheek. "You're very dark." It was almost awe as she looked at him. "You poor boy, you might lose your way."
This feeling they were sharing had no place in him; not like some would think. Or maybe it did - if she were a kinder, gentler version, she'd think that love would be exactly what he needed. He was human, he was Mundy, but what she saw...love had no place with it, not the normal love that stupid poets went on and on about ad nauseum.
