"Dating somebody else doesn't mean that you've move past it." He insisted lightly. "It just means you're using another being to distract you from what you want most. How often do you still wonder how it might have been if he'd just opened himself up to you? If he'd just let you love him? Do you think that you might have changed him? Helped him in some way? Eased his pain by being there for him, somebody to lean on and talk to?"
His eyes darted to his fingers as he removed a stray bit of lint from his pants, the maroon being shadowed so that when he looked up again, they caught the light in a strange way. Reflecting it almost abnormally.
When he looked back at her, he noticed the change in her. She was trying to think of something different now. Something that would help her calm herself down. But her heart hadn't slowed yet.
"People are puzzles, Doctor Cameron. Every single one of us is an intricate mix of all the things we have ever encountered. The pieces come together to form what we are. I study people at every chance that I get. I find that they do the strangest things when they think they aren't being watched. When they've entered the small little private bubble that they seem to think makes the invisible to the rest of the world." He laughed a little. "Finding out what makes them tick, now that is where the true fun comes in, doesn't it? Delving into the secrets that they think they aren't revealing."
Switching the subject quickly, "You admire Doctor Wilson."
