Barbara looked completely unconcerned about being stuck in a corner of the store, her eyes instead filled with worry for the man cornering her. Her left hand wavered in the air, unsure of whether or not it was okay for her to try to comfort him.
The music changed to short staccato notes as Barbara sang pleadingly,
"Billy I know you you rail against the biz, I wish it wasn't the way it is, I wish you weren't so completely miz.."
"But our compassionate philosophies, the others see as a disease, heroes are difficult to appease."
"Without these things you spit upon, our cities would crumble and be gone, and we'd be faced with the darkest dawn."
With Billy's heartbroken tone and Barbara's desperate attempt to console, it was impossible to tell that the two had known each other for only a little over an hour. Innocent chatter about the weather and city had led to things more serious and complicated than Babs had anticipated, and her attention was so completely occupied that she didn't even feel the cold blast of air the accompanied the new arrival into the store.
