Wes was about to offer to pick up the cat and warm it (him?) in his coat when another voice entered the conversation. He stood up and faced the tall, thin man.
"I've seen types of dogs with ice on the pads of their feet from walking in the snow. Siberian dogs have fur on the bottoms of their feet precisely because they travel through snow and ice. Dogs from warmer climates, like Chihuahuas, often require booties when walked in snowy climates because their feet are unadapted to the cold. Most cats are from warmer climates, though I do wonder if Siberian tigers developed fur on their paws as well. I'll have to look that up."
He smiled back at the other man after concluding his spontaneous discourse on animal evolution. Then he turned back to the shivering cat, who looked rather confused and pathetic by now.
"Would you like me to place you inside my coat or bring you somewhere? What is your name? I'm Wesley."
