So, wait. Blonde or red? I don't...the...what?
So. There is legitimate differences of opinion of what color Wash's hair is. This is all in fun, of course, and it really doesn't matter. But I thought I'd take some time, for those interested, to explore the facts of Alan Tudyk's amazing hair color changes.
First, Alan Tudyk admits himself a ginger. And, sometimes, that is very obvious!
But...other times it seems a ruse. Ginger? This guy? That's called blonde--duh!
Here in lies the confusion. Because sometimes Alan is both not ginger AND not blonde. Some claim this is "strawberry blonde." Wash himself would probably prefer "light ginger." More manly sounding and all.
This situation is all the more complicated by the fact that in "Firefly" Alan was light ginger.
See? Sprinkled ginger, sort of. Like a Chai tea.
But by the time Alan stars in "Serenity" he has been in California for a little while and his hair has lightened incredibly.
If all of this isn't confusing enough if you change any light on Alan's hair it's liable to look like any genetic combination possible.
You want auburn? We got auburn.
Brunette? DONE!
So what does all of this mean? Nothing, actually. I just felt like writing something. But! What I will say is please don't feel limited by Wash only being ginger or blonde. Your character see him as a bleach blonde bimbo? Write it! That's actually pretty funny. Strawberry blonde on the tip of your character's tongue? Do that, too! Perception is common enough to have you or your character describe Wash in any darn way you want. (Sexyisprefered)
So I hope that clears up some confusion about Alan Tudyk's and, consequentially, Wash's hair. Or adds more confusion. I'm really okay with both. :)
p.s. I really like this quote from the website Brightest Young Things: " Alan Tudyk is also a ginger, well he’s really more of a strawberry blonde so he’s a ginger light, less calories."
