i_seekthelost Time Warp Whip Lash [ Ted ]

She wasn't the only one in business attire buying groceries. There were harried mothers in pants suits trailed by small children in soccer uniforms or dressed up in pink leotards trying to sneak fruit or cookies into baskets. Lana watched them, talking away on small communicators, the ones the television called cellular phones. They seemed to juggle so much. And no one thought twice about it.

There was even a woman well into her forties with a young child carried in some sort of sling on her chest. Another woman was following her, dutifully collecting baby products. Lana had never seen a woman in her forties with a child that was her own. At first she'd assumed grandmother, grandchild and daughter. But the younger woman was too subservient. And then a discreet listen revealed she was a nanny.

One hand dropped to her waist and Lana looked away. There was so much that was new in this place. The people, the manners. She hid herself away in her office, reading papers and trying to catch up on paperwork her new secretary said she was behind on. Playing politics at a University was distasteful, but it was something she knew how to do.

Living in this new world ? It was something else entirely.

She slipped her cigarette case out of her purse, needing a smoke to sooth her nerves. She couldn't look this off put in public. She'd learned the hard way about Luthors and public appearances. But the woman with the baby turned and glared at her as she flicked on her lighter. And the younger woman dutifully disappeared around the curve of the end of the aisle.

Lana inhaled and was exhaling slowly, feeling everything tension slipping away, when a young bright eyed young man in a bright red apron came trotting after her.

i_seekthelost Port in a Storm [ Open / Lois Lane ]

It was odd, beyond odd, stepping into an apartment for which she didn't have the keys, but which she knew like the back of her hand. At first glance, everything in the Luthor Penthouse seemed familiar. Lana nodded to the attendant who'd led her up from the ground floor and would most likely be waiting outside the door for the hour or so she'd been permitted to come gather her belongings.

As the door closed, she took a closer look around. There was a picture or two in the wrong place. Some art she'd never seen before. One or two pieces of technology she didn't recognize. But those were small things.

She walked over to a bookcase and began to peruse the titles. Lana nodded to herself. Here were the true differences. None of her books were here. And the general tone seemed historical. Warfare historical. She supposed that said a lot about a Lex who'd been pushed towards businesses. And she firmly believed it was a push. A strong push.

She'd never realized before how well she knew her husband and how much it meant that they'd been best friends before they were married. But it meant that there were things she noticed, tells. And this Lex carried them, but they were all triggered by the wrong things.

Turning away from the bookcase, she headed across the greatroom to the hallway with the bedrooms and stopped short. Was that a woman's pump ? Lana turned and looked at the room again, things seemed a little messier than she would have expected, but there were no other signs of a female guest. On the other hand, she didn't recognize the shoe.

Cautious, Lana walked down the hall to the master bedroom, but stopped at one of the guest rooms. The door was a bit ajar. She pushed it open.

i_seekthelost The City's Man & The Archeologist (cnt / Jack)

Prompt: Lana Lang wakes up from the Dreaming

She stirred first, pausing though not quite freezing when her eyes opened and she was somewhere she didn't recognize. It was indoors, she could tell by the lack of cold air against her skin, though something was slightly damp and wet on her forehead.

Lana reached up, found the cool cloth and then tried to sit up, "What... ?" She noticed the windows first. Lovely old, Metropolis windows, her heart wanted to call them. Arched and wide. Classic but new at the same time. Lana started to smile, and then saw a body out of the corner of her eye.

She almost hoped.

Almost.

But the legs she saw had no shoes. So she wasn't too surprised or disappointed when she saw it was simply Jack, and she realized she was in a strange new apartment, back in the strange new City, that even the King of Dreams believed to be odd but real, in his own way. And there anything was possible.

And how strange was her life that she could think a logical sentence, cold and hard, that contained the words 'King of Dreams.'

"Hello again."

i_seekthelost Strange Things Are Happening Part 2 [ Open ]

Still confused and more than a little puzzled, Lana stepped through the office doors and found no one there. She turned, looking all around the office in a slow circle until she came face to face with the secretary who was stepping in through the open doors with a cup of coffee in her hands.

She looked surprised too. "But he was just..."

Through the still open doors, Lana caught sight of Bruce Wayne, slipping a hand into his pocket and putting a device up to his ear. A communicator. He got up abruptly, to scribble a note for the secretary and Lana nodded to let the other woman know, but between the tea and trying to play nice to someone who'd just been called Luthor, the secretary had enough on her hands.

"Can I get a car, please ? For the penthouse ?" Going home now seemed like the best idea. She wasn't entirely sure that secretary knew what she was talking about. Lana had left Lex in Superboy's laboratory. He couldn't be in his office in the first place. And his vice-president shouldn't have been spending time in there either.

She would go home, she'd look though Lex's things in his home office, she'd contact him, and charter the next private plane back out.

"I'll wait on the sidewalk outside the downstairs lobby." Lana said, nicely. "Thank you for the coffee." After all, courtesy cost her nothing and was remembered, even if she hadn't so much as taken a single sip.

i_seekthelost One Small Step For Woman [ Luthor ]

There were lights and bottles and jars and electric gizmos. Not her thing at all. But they were Lex's. Whenever he came across something ancient, he could give her a call. In the mean time, she'd just take notes on what she saw. Lana opened a door in the lab and moved to turn on a lightswitch. Thank goodness those were normal.

She blinked at the bright glare of the light, wondering what sort of technology was needed to make a bulb burn so brightly. And then there were alarms. And a rough hand caught her upper arm.

"I'm sorry honey, I don't know what I did. I thought it was a light switch."

Surely Lex could fix this. Superboy couldn't have kept something really dangerous attached to a seeming lightswitch, could he ?

"Who are you ? What are you doing here ? This is a protected area ma'am."

Lana Lang blinked. There was a grizzly looking man in a white lab coat holding her to a wall. Beside him, another man was talking into a bright red phone. Still blinking back sudden tears and a strange ringing in her ears, she thought she heard something about security.

"What.. who are you ? What are you doing here ? Does Lex know you're here ?" Because she was certain there wasn't supposed to be anyone else but her, Lex, and maybe Pete Ross investigating the lab.

The hand on her arm eased off a bit. And it was as if the person holding her was looking over her clothes, hair, the ring on her finger.

Lana used that moment to try and clear her eyes and look around. What she saw stopped her cold. She was in a lab. But it wasn't Superboy's laboratory. This was normal earth stuff. A bit more high tech than she was used to, but not by much. There were perks she'd gotten used to as a scientist's wife. Though one or two things really caught her attention.

Like the little handbag typewriters on the table. What were those ? It looked like a television, but so small and portable. And why attach it to keys ? It almost looked like a computer, but so small ? So thin ? Even Lex's private instruments were not that sleek.

In her distraction, she'd been led out of the room to a small coffee area. The grizzly man in the white lab coat still had a firm grip on her arm. It was going to bruise. She could feel it. She tried to tug herself free. "There's no need to act like a goon. I don't know how I got here, but that insignia says Cadmus Labs. Cadmus Labs are LexCorp, and I can go anywhere LexCorp."

"Just who do you think you are..." The grip tightened, almost painfully.

There was a hurried set of footsteps, the snap of patent leather shoes and the click of a baton against the wall. The guard stopped however, and then rushed forward to tug the scientist's hand away from her arm. "Doctor Luthor!"

"Luthor ?" The man asked, wary and with the merest hint of panic in his voice.

"Mrs. Luthor." The security guard said again, though he looked confused. "How ... how did you get down here ?"

While it was nice that someone recognized her, Lana didn't know how to begin to explain that question. "I'm not sure..." She peered to read his name tag. "Brathwaite. I seem to have gotten a little lost, somehow." A couple of states and a couple hundred miles lost.

A sudden thought made her light up like a Christmas tree. Had she stepped into some kind of teleporter ? Lex would be over the moon about it! Once he figured out she was safe. Who knew what it was set to. Maybe that's what had happened to Superboy. Maybe it was how they'd get him back!

"I need to call my husband. I need to call Lex."

Her mind caught up on how to get into contact again; cb radio or some other broadcasting communicator ? Lana didn't pay attention to where she was being led. Which was into an elevator which was going all the way up to the top floor.
