i_crackjokes [I don't make things difficult. That's the way they get, all by themselves. -- op

Having determined that yes, Inara was alive, Eddie had hung around for a bit and than decided that enough was enough. He needed to go for a walk. The hospital and Eddie wasn't a good match, he figured if he stayed there long enough someone was going to ask him what his relation was to Inara, or someone was going to ask him about his gun, or … well there was all kinds of reasons for him ducking outside for a walk to clear his head.

He turned to look at the Hospital muttered a; "Okay, stay." When neither the streets nor the hospital shifted he grinned. "Good hospital. I'll be back in a bit."

A few blocks later Eddie paused in front of a place that called it's self 'Bruce's Video' and glanced in the window. What the hell where DVD's? And what was that ... Lethal Weapon 4? "Jesus." He could vaguely recall Lethal Weapon being out in the theaters. He hadn't gone and seen it, but ..."Must have been good if they made four of them …"

i_amregistered Dreams and hospital food (Inara in the Hospital. Open to Rose/Eddie/Mal/Dream/a

City General was a busy little medical hub, something like what one would expect to see on those TV dramas about hospitals. Green scrubs and cold sterile white walls, the smell of alcohol and bleach, the faint buzz of florescent lighting and the low rumble of hundreds of voices made up the soul of C.G.

Tucked off in one quiet corner a dark haired woman lay in a clean clinically white bed, under clean clinically white sheets, in a clean clinically white gown. Inara Serra had been down graded to stable condition and awaited only a few blood tests before her release. The incident which had brought her in had raised more then one eyebrow in the C.G.E.R. She wasn't the first to come in, she had however been the first to be brought in alive.

A dozen or so like her were in the morgue, disturbingly three of those had decided to go missing a number of days after their arrival..and more disturbingly, their autopsies. Inara offered a chance the hospital had not yet seen and they jumped on it. While she was slumbering away her blood was being tested in every batch of blood work that they could think of. City General was about to discover the truth of the existence of vampires.

For her part in the matter Inara only wanted to be warm and safe and among friends. Perhaps that was what drew her in her dreams to the dining hall of Serenity. Warm friendly faces smiled to her and food..real food not just protein shaped like food, filled the table. Kaylee was smiling brightly, Simon seemed to catch her eye with a blush of his own. Zoe and Wash were doing some not-so-subtle flirting under the table, even Mal seemed in rare form. They were all there, regardless of Books death or Jayne's desire to leave or Rivers..being River.. all of the crew that had been was together. As joy full as she felt, something nagged in her dream mind that this was not quite entirely right.

(OOC: Ok, great for any Firefly'ers to jump into the dream. Even Dream himself. Feel free to take surreal turns with it. Feel free for others of the waking world to step in as well. Have fun!)

i_travel TARDIS-placement (OPEN, Rose explores The City)

The dodgey cranking siren sounded before the box faded from the spot, leaving nothing but a vacated white plastic lounge chair in it's wake.

That same ear grating sound wound up to it's loudest pitch, warping reality to suddenly shift itself into being. The TARDIS never assumed anything, it merely was, or wasn't as it's direction told it to be. Rose hardly understood the dynamics of it all but she did know this...it had moved. That alone was some small victory, sure she wasn't the Doctor, but she had gone somewhere.

She took the time to change into something a bit more covering then her bikini, no need to repeat the previous run ins, besides she wasn't entirely sure she was where she thought she was going. The TARDIS might be empathic but that was far from fool proof.

Once more Rose stepped out into the world...one which looked like some SOHO art district, this was not Cardif.

"....oh."

i_misbehave Open

Mal had quit asking questions a long time back.

How a city this big managed to get by without a single wide wave comm unit, was anyone's guess- but everyone's guess would be about the same: not very well. People came, and people went. Every one of them looking for someone, and Mal was just one more long coat in the crowd.

All things considered, Mal had managed to land on his feet; no matter what time or place a body was in, folk still needed work done... and it was'nt always legal. He still wandered about every now and again: keeping an eye out for the ones he'd lost, but more and more of every day was taken up with the dirty details of getting by.

Taking a few boxes from one fella in a funny suit to another fella in a bad hat (without drawing the attention of the local lawmen) had landed him the bare basic welding gear, to start repairs on what was left of Serenity.

Getting that message out for Lucy had'nt gotten him a proper comm unit, but the pretty boy had been good to his word, and set Mal up with what passed for one in this place: a little short range unit to unit device.. It beeped from time to time when work turned up.

All in all, it was like things used to be, way back when.
Every time the sun went down, Mal got a little bit closer to how he once was.. he got a bit colder, and he got a bit meaner.

That's the way a body gets when it gets lonesome.

i_amregistered Top of the world. (Inara,Eddie Open to others. City Indstury Tower Viewing plat

The lobby had proved less of of a problem then she would have thought. A brief interlude with a rather severe looking receptionist was handed smoothly by Inara. I'm expected, don't worry we can see ourselves up. With the well times addition of Eddies own glare of disdain for the short bun haired woman they passed with no further question.

"You have an excellent air of quiet authority, who were you imitating?"
The silent unquestioning persona was not his clearly, buy someone he knew well enough to have imprinted himself with it. He was gifted at it, must have been a wonderful mimic in his own right. Inara smiled as the elevator rushed up toward the viewing station that topped the business floors of the building. Apparently there were some offices above and beyond that, but those were of no concern to them at present.

A soft chime sounded a moment after motion had ceased, glossy brass doors slid open and the expanse of concrete lay before them. The horizon greeted them first to every side the purple pink glow faded into blue sky, dusted with clouds. Inara stepped forward first eyes sweeping over the landscape for once becoming aware of the geography of The City. Mal was somewhere out there, but there was a whole lot of out there.

i_amregistered "Always comes back to Towers." (Inara & Eddie at City Industries tower. Open)

The Tower was a massive place of business, Inara was instantly reminded of the Core worlds just by the sheer size and presence of the place. This was more in keeping with the life she had grown accustomed to. Wealth and privilege afforded many social blind spots to the rest of the world. Having had the chance to see both sides of that fence the Companion was more willing now to gently guide Eddie Dean rather then chide him as she might have in another life.

"I doubt they will be entirely comfortable with your sidearm. Is there any chance of you parting with it so long as we are inside?"

Mal gave up his weapon only when he had no other choice, she expected no less resistance from Eddie. Still the towering structure would live on quite well with or without them, they would be the ones to have to accommodate it. Bodies passed them on the walk up the many steps leading to the buildings large glass front, sunlight glinted off brass edged doors as they swung offering entry and exit to the masses.

"Is this what things were like where you're from?" It would at least hopefully break the building tension she had noted in him since they first sighted and began moving for the Tower.

i_lovemybentley Back to the Stone Age

Well, Crowley knew he'd have to get to work at some point. He was good at his job, that was the crux. And he liked things that he was good at.

He's already taken time to get a feel for the City. Currents of information, the flow of the City changing, the way people moved through it, from the mundane inhabitants to the superpowered humans. It wasn't easy, but one thing had come naturally to Crowley.

Technology.

He'd always been good with technology. He loved the humans for inventing it. For having the imagination to invent it. And they were so deliciously dependent on it. It just made things easier. Poor creatures. When it decided to stop working, by fair means or foul, they went into these gloriously dark moods, and spread their annoyance like a plague.

Sitting in his flat, Crowley closed his eyes and dismissed physical reality from his senses. Locking on to the lines of communication, he carefully started to disrupt things. At first, it was slow - a simple static signal across the City. Cell phones crackled, wireless signals weakened, portable computers lost communication abilities. That lasted for about twenty-five minutes.

Then came the next wave. Cell phone service was obliterated by a severe static storm in every cell phone tower. All forms of wireless communication was terminated. No signals could be received or transmitted. Low-frequency radios began to suffer from static interference.

It was an hour later that the hard lines began to feel the effects. Just as everyone began to feel comforted that at least those were working, televisions, computers, radios, and even landline phones were cut off by the increasing static storms.

i_imagine When the Earth Shakes... [Open log for ALL]

The first thought Kyle had when he felt the earth shake was, 'Damn. There aren't any signs up about how to handle earthquakes. We never had earthquake drills'. Then he looked at his light board which had fallen off of his desk smashed to the floor, and thought, 'Fuck.'

Then he saw the smoke.

That was when he finally thought to stand up and look away from his desk. How were his coworkers handling the impromptu earthquake. Or whatever it was. They weren't handling it very well at all, actually. For all he could see, they were running through the resulting smoke like chickens with their heads cut off. Kyle couldn't really blame them; they probably weren't used to stuff like this. Hell, he wasn't even completely used to stuff like this.

The art department for The City's newspaper was on one of the lower floors, so when Kyle finally got his wits together and started yelling and ushering people out of the doors, he could at least have some comfort in knowing they all had a good chance of getting out safely. No one seemed to notice when he backed away from the stairwell and ran back into the main area of the floor where all the artists had their desks set up.

He moved slowly through the smoke, making sure no one else was trapped in the room and once he was relatively sure, he raised his hand. A green gas mask covered his face, and Kyle took a deep breath, hoping that he hadn't already inhaled too much smoke. Next he created a lantern, which shined brightly through the smoke, allowing him to move quickly to the large windows.

Where was the smoke coming from? Kyle wasn't immediately sure, but he was definitely leaning more towards an explosion now. He just didn't know from where. Looking out of the windows, he could see smoke pouring from some of the lowers floors as well, and a slightly grey tinge in the air above make him think that something had to going on on the higher floors as well. Across the street people were pouring out of another office building and onto the street, pointing up at both buildings. Grey smoke was pouring from their windows as well.

The building shook again, and this time Kyle could hear an explosion coming from upstairs. It was time to get out.

Kyle backed away from the window, back into the smoke where he was sure no one would be able to see him as a green glow engulfed his body. When it died down, he was suited up completely, mask included. He had to help somehow.

Though, as he started breaking through the window so that he could fly out, Kyle couldn't help but hope that some of the other heroes in this place had heard the explosions. Because he was pretty damn sure that alone he wasn't going to be much good.

OOC: Just a note, as stated before, everyone can participate in this, whether your character wants to be a bystander or wants to try to rescue people or even wants to try and make the situation worse. Any of those options is cool! NPCs may even come and interact with your characters.

Don't worry. Something will come of this. So yes. Post!

i_crackjokes [Over The Rainbow and Back Again - Open]

ooc: In typical life fashion my copy of Wizard And Glass has gone AWOL -- there is sad empty place on my bookshelf where it belongs - so I'm not 100% sure if the newspaper they find in Kansas in that story calls the super-flu Captain Trips or not. If it doesn't' … well … it did this time *twists canon to make it more to her liking* . Oh, hi by the way, my name is Kelly, I play Eddie, and I'm new :D

He was pretty sure he wasn't dreaming. For one thing, when he dreamed he dreamed of New York. Or one of the many variations of it. But standing here on the corner and looking around, well this didn't look like New York. Still, he could be dreaming ..

"Wonderful, fan-fucking-tastic."

It did occur to Eddie that standing on the corner talking to himself wasn't exactly making a case for his other option. That is to say the option behind door (because it always came back to doors didn't it?) number two. That it was all real, and somehow, he had slipped away from the others. Gone on to one of the other worlds.

So the question was. .. what world was he in? And when in this world was he in? So far things looked like .. well not exactly like his home turf of New Yawk City, in the year of nineteen-eighty-seven, for one thing he didn't know half of these buildings. Yet the place was too .. alive to be part of Roland's world. Things didn't look like they where breaking down here, and hell he could see some people walking down the other side of the street.

Which meant he was decidedly was not in the Kansas he had jut been in. That place had been permanent population zero every carried off by something the local paper -- or what was left of it -- had labeled; 'Captain Trips'. So, not in Kansas. Not in Mid-World. So where?

"Well that's the million dollar question isn't it?"

He looked up; "Buildings Buildings everywhere, and not a fucking sign saying; 'Welcome To ….' To see. Someone needs to let the tourist board know that weary travelers like to know where the hell they are." Not panicked not yet, Eddie was just pissed off.

While looking upwards at the buildings that towered (hah) above him he noticed something. Something that made his stomach do a little flip flop. The clouds. The clouds now moved in a rather … cloud like way. Not flowing straight and true along the Beam. For the first time since he had lost the others, Eddie Dean began to feel like maybe, just maybe, he was up that fabled shit creek sans paddle.
