i_revenge a different sort of deliberations [open]
There was something interesting happening. It wasn't so much the number of people involved, or that the activity was centered around a courthouse, that caught Nemesis's attention. The people themselves could be divided into categories, it seemed. One group was like Mapleleaf had been - exuding pure, unadulterated and nausea-inducing goodness - though she'd yet to find someone quite as decidedly Good as that boy. Others were on the other end of the spectrum, at least from a hero's point of a view. The rest were where she was - good on occassion. Oh, some were more good than bad, and others were more evil than innocent, but they all had their places.
None of them, really, were normal.
She perched on the roof of the building, sword hanging at her side, and watched. There wasn't much to see out here, right now, but it was interesting nonetheless. The scales were being tipped now, one way or another, and she wouldn't find out until someone actually exited the building.
Now was the time for placing bets on the outcome, if only she were a betting woman.

Gabriel stood behind her, watching. His head slightly tilted. She was... interesting. Strange, but interesting.
She seemed so very intent on the courthouse. Did she know somebody inside? Did she have vested interest in Jack Napier? A lot of people seemed to, so it wouldn't have surprised him at all.
"What do you predict?" His voice was quiet, he was hoping to not startle her too much.
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 14:17:01
She almost flinched, but caught and suppressed the movement as best she could, out of habit. It didn't really matter here, who saw how human she might be - she could still show them that she'd passed beyond that stage, if she had to.
Her head tilted slightly, but she didn't turn around. No need to, yet, and she had her sword within reach if that was the sort of company she'd acquired. "Chaos," Nemesis said flatly. It seemed to be the best definition of the current justice system, anyways.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 14:20:20
"I'm afraid that's already started." Gabriel moved forward to stand next to her. "The moment the trial started, it all went to Hell."
He looked at the courthouse as if he could see inside of it. Through the walls. The brick.
"There are bets going on, if you're interested. Somebody's betting the jury will be hung. Literally. I myself have my money on good old physical violence."
Gabriel was standing right next to her now. "Chaos is a broad thing to bet on."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 14:32:45
She turned enough to see more than just a vague shape. Unexpected company, but really, what would expected company be? Northstar again, perhaps, but he'd seemed content to tell her a few things about the city and then to leave her on her own. Not that she needed or wanted his help, beyond that.
"I'm not in the business of betting." Her posture relaxed a bit; just having him more in her line of vision was a reassurance. Pause. "But I don't think it will end as cleanly as they hope."
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 14:37:04
"Nobody's in the business of betting. Except maybe Crowley. It's a lark. What better do we really have to do here?"
Gabriel offered a little smile. It wasn't clear the meaning behind it. "Of course it's not going to go as cleanly as they hope. It's already gone far beyond anything any of them imagined. I think they are hoping that the last of it will be no more of a circus than it's aleady been. But I don't think that will happen. Not with Jack."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 15:47:20
"I don't... lark," she amended. Ever since her death, she hadn't had much in the way of a sense of fun. Nemesis was all about work, be it purely business, or personal. If she smiled back, it wouldn't have been visible for the mask she wore, and she didn't, at any rate.
"Well, perhaps you can involve yourself in the possibly inevitable violence," she suggested seriously.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 15:51:03
"If I participate, I lose my part of the bet, Amelia." He quipped at her. "The last thing I want to do is owe any of those fuckers a favor."
Especially not Constantine.
And God knew what Crowley would require as a favor. Or for that matter, Bartleby.
The whole idea of it made him shudder.
"I think I'll have to sit this one out. But you? You could go in and have some fun if you liked."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 19:03:03
"Who are you?" she retorted, ignoring anything that followed her name. Everything else was filler. Very few people knew her real name, and none of them looked like the man she was talking to. It made no sense that anyone here would know her, even if there was an occasional familiar face.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 19:12:51
He raised his eyebrows. "Gabriel."
She seemed slightly irritated that he knew her name. How could he not know her name? She was another one of His. The dead. But she was dead in a wholly different way than the last one had been. This one didn't, and wouldn't, need him to stop smelling.
It was a nice change.
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 20:26:30
Nemesis stared, doubtfully. She'd run across many characters in her life (or non-life, rather), including a future (or past, if it was from her current point of view) version of herself, but never Gabriel. At least, she didn't think so.
If this even was the Gabriel that immediately sprang to mind.
"And you're trapped here?" was what she asked instead of 'really?'. If so, this place a lot more powerful than she'd assumed. It'd explain why her teleporting didn't work.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 20:29:53
"Quite." Gabriel nodded. "No way out. And I'm not the only one. Not one of us has been able to find a way out."
He sighed. "I've stopped trying, really. I didn't try very hard to begin with, admittedly, but I did try."
His eyes glanced over the City around them. "It's an interesting, damnedable place."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 20:39:58
That was disheartening news. She was not someone who ever found herself bound to one place, but she was guessing that he wasn't either. Nemesis looked down at the roof, and then back at the, well, he was an angel, wasn't he.
"Cursed," she added. "And everyone in it." She nodded down at the building underneath them. "What's your interest in this?"
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 20:42:53
Gabriel shrugged a little. "Gambling, as I said. I'm also curious to see what Jack will do. He's a very strange fellow. You can never really anticipate what he's going to do next. Just when you think you have him pegged, it all goes awry."
A smile quirked the side of his mouth. "And maybe I like the threat of violence more than I should."
He looked down at the courthouse and then moved to the ledge and sat down.
"Humanity is amusing. Interesting. I like to watch."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/27/2006 21:43:50
The only way she liked to peg people was with a sword, through a vital organ. It wasn't her place to make predictions of how people would act; she merely reacted, based on what she'd already observed of them. Okay, and sometimes she took action first, but even then, whatever she did was based on what had already happened.
"Hm," she said thoughtfully. "I would think that an interest in violence would be expected of you." She shifted, adjusting the long blade of her sword at her side. "Do you only watch?"
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/27/2006 21:47:44
"This time." His feet dangled toward the ground. "I have to keep my influence out of things. Or I lose. And the bet is for favors. I really don't want to lose to any of the others. God doesn't even know what they'd have me doing."
Gabriel's wings came into view now, into existance with him. He used them to balance himself as he leaned out over the streets below.
"An interest in violence, maybe, but not to the extent that I have, I don't think. The level of participation."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/28/2006 14:32:21
"They?" she echoed, and took a guess. "Other angels?" How many of them could be here? Hell (no pun intended), how many could even exist together, taking all of their possible origins into consideration and how many cultures didn't allow for the existence of other higher powers.
The wings weren't entirely unexpected - or rather, it wasn't a surprise that he had them, but their sudden appearance now caught her off-guard, and Nemesis slipped off the roof. It was easy to make it look entirely intentional and not defensive, and she simply ended up hovering, facing him more directly.
"Did you make me this, then?" Amelia had been a normal woman, until her death. Then she'd turned into something that wasn't even real.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/28/2006 14:41:12
"Me personally?" He looked her over. Of course he personally hadn't made her. But she was fantastic. "I did."
Gabriel watched her float there. Fascinated. He took credit for her because he wanted to. He wanted to be responsible for her. He wanted to be the cause of her.
"When you died, I made you this. Gave you this new life."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/28/2006 15:37:26
It wasn't quite as awesome an event from her perspective. While Nemesis accepted her position and her duties without question, she knew that Amelia was far less appreciative of them.
"Why?"
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/28/2006 15:55:37
"Perhaps I felt that the world needed somebody like you. Or maybe it's because I wanted a weapon." He shrugged. "Maybe because I wanted to give you a gift that opened your full potential. Or perhaps because I wanted or needed a companion. Somebody to share certain things with. Maybe it's all of this, or none of it. What matters most in the end is that you exist."
Gabriel leaned further out toward her, his wings spreading slightly more to compensate.
"You are here, and I am here. And now you know."
In theory, he would have created her for all the reasons he'd stated. If he'd created her. It made him slightly jealous of whoever had actually made her.
From: i_revenge Date: 06/28/2006 16:28:03
"I don't think I believe you." Angel or no, she was certainly not afraid to speak her mind. If that earned her a smiting, well, she was already dead. Nemesis was by no means psychic, but that just didn't seem to fit.
"But it doesn't matter." That much she could agree on. She turned to glance at the city.
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/28/2006 16:31:57
"You don't have to believe me. I could unmake you as easily as I made you." It was partially true. He could take away the life she had now, end what she was. Or he could resurrect her completely. Give her the life she used to have.
The latter was likely more what she wanted.
"You should try to have fun in this city while you can. Who knows when any of us will be removed from it. This is a playground."
From: i_revenge Date: 06/29/2006 14:53:50
She smiled behind her mask. "You could, I suppose, but I doubt you will." At least, she hoped he wouldn't. If he did, it wasn't as though she would be able to care, though, so what she hoped didn't really matter.
"It's a prison," she countered. "I could go anywhere, before, through time and space. And now," she spread her arms out, "this is all I have. Surely you don't miss your own freedom."
From: i_amthelefthand Date: 06/30/2006 11:49:45
"There's no escape." He agreed. "But you can either wallow in it, or you can make the best of it. There's nothing to be done of it, so do with it what you can."
Gabriel was quiet for a moment. Then he pointed at the courthouse. "There's activity."
