i_who Regeneration (OPEN)
"....And you know what?," he told her, feeling evey cell in his body catch fire and, just for a moment, letting him love that look of sorrow she displayed. He liked to think it was for him. Of course it was for him. "So was I!"
It was all fire by then, both agonizing and revitalizing, he could feel himself melt away, particle by particle, bit by bit and at once die and be reborn. It shot through his throat from his toes, causing his body to jerk up, eyes shut and...
... and open with entirely unexpected feeling. All that heat, all that light was gone and it shouldn't have been that way. He should have felt like he'd just come from a steam bath. At least when it went right that's the way it went. So, something had gone wrong.
He swallowed and found everything in place in his throat. He turned around and found a large storefront window displayed with furniture instead of the TARDIS or Rose. And the reflection in the glass was all too familiar. Jaw slightly agape, he walked towards it in rugged shoes, staring at what he saw. A passerby stopped and looked at the stranger, slightly curious and slightly worried.
"You okay, mister?," he asked, ready to jump and run away at a moment's notice should he be, in fact, not okay and want some sort of help.
"Yehh.. yes," he said in familiar tones of surprise, staring at the last reflection he left before the regeneration. A face he wasn't supposed to have anymore. "I've just never seen a sale like this on end tables."
He touched at the short clipped dark hair, the angular nose, the sharp chin, all of it no longer colapsing by Time Itself. He patted his chest down, heard his hearts, felt his hands, all of it replaced right back where it was. The stranger has moved on, leaving the Doctor to turn slowly back to where he'd found himself. TARDISless. Alone.
"... Rose," he heard himself whisper before he'd realised he was saying anything at all.

The Doctor moved neck first, pulling away from where the sharp dressed man came to stand. Eyes dressed him down as he drug his rampant thoughts away from who he was (an ever present dilemna given a more physical form this time) to who this was.
He'd been around. Many people called themselves the Devil. Few had the clout to back it up.
"This-," he paused, putting a hand over his head with a strong step towards the man. "This your doing?"

"Don't be an ass. Hell wasn't even my doing but that didn't keep me from being banished there, now did it?"
Lucifer took a long drag from his cigarette that seemed to last an age itself, turning almost a third of the fag to ash. He flicked the remaining bud to the ground.
"This place, The City, is much nicer than Hell. But for whatever reason, or whomever is behind this, cosmic or not, a lot of people would appear to be trapped from a number of different times and dimensions. Which is why I'm pleased to have met you, Doctor."
The Devil's smile could charm even the most chaste nun.

He didn't seem to be listening, just sort of short pacing, head dipped down, eyes shadowed. Something went wrong. What happened to his body? The City seemed to want him here, but why *this* him? What had happened to Rose? The TARDIS?
"Of course you're happy to see me!," he suddenly turned, addressing the sharp suited gent with a frenetic grin and his arms flung wide. "Everyone needs a good doctor now and then." His eyes turned razor sharp, as if they could slice through all this. "Now then...?"

"You're familiar with The Endless I take it? It's Morpheus to whom I'm specifically referring to."
Lucifer reached into his pocket and retrieved his package of cigarettes. These days it seemed strange to see him without a cigarette. All that waiting had been bad for him, something he didn't want to admit. He was ten billion years old, why should he be so impatient now?
The cigarette was lit and the packaged was tucked neatly back into his suit pocket.

The Devil in all due time it seemed. The Doctor seemed to be interested in everything at once, least of all being the explaination from the man in the suit.
Yes, the stars looked right, though there were some changed. The architecture could be placed but there was something else too. He'd figure out where he was in short order, he was confident.
"Right right," he said and held up his hand in front of his face. His fingers wiggled and he seemed to take this as some sort of sign.

"He was supposed to retrieve two items, horns and a key. I need to know if he's found them yet. I trust that you can handle the message?"
The Devil's smile turned to a frown.

The Doctor looked solemn for a moment. "Handle it deftly, not a problem..."
The manic grin came back as he crossed the distance to clap a hand on the displeased's shoulder. "... and next time I run across him, I'll see if I can't let him know you care."
Turning right around from that, he still shook out out his legs, unsettled by this turn of a events but essentially sure this was merely a cosmic hiccup. Screwing his courage to the sticking place, he took a few steps before stopping entirely, putting a hand to his stomach.
"Did you feel that?," he asked no one in partiuclar. "It's... it's moving..." The TARDIS was moving!
From: i_fellfirst Date: 06/28/2006 21:55:38
"....No," the devil replied flatly. He couldn't be in tune with every single artifact of importance in the entire universe, particularly while he was without the majority of his power.
"You're sure you'll be able to move my message along?"
One track mind? The doctor was a bit strange, but he would do. Not many were willing to help the devil, not that Lucifer didn't appreciate the few he could count on. He might have sought out the Sorcerer Supreme, but then they were always a bit holier than thou.

"Ha!," he declared, seeming more than a little relieved, clapping his hands together and rubbing them briskly. "Moving. Brilliant. Here, even so that makes things that much simpler. Sure that'll change by the day's out, but let's enjoy this while we can, shall we?"
He gave a passing look back to the suit as he have a definative tug to his leather coat. "Right," he said with certainly, then took off in a run, judging his direction by feel alone.
