i_travel by any other name...(Rose joins The City, TARDIS lands in the British block, OPEN)
The groaning, wheezing engine-like sound got louder as a blue Police Box faded into sight just outside one of the larger building in the more British looking section of The City. As the grinding came to a halt, the door slowly opened and a bright blue eyed face peeked out from the bifold doors. A long mane of blond followed by a bright Union Jack t-shirt and blue jeans. A rapid series of blinks as the not rightness of it all sat in. A puzzled look fell across the normally unworried features.
"This isn't Barcelona, not the city nor the planet."
That bit was directed back into the blue box she had just emerged from. No answer came from inside which let the confusion give way to concern.
"Doctor? Doctor?"
A duck back inside to scan over the immediate areas of the TARDIS he could have vanished into that fast. No sign of the lanky leather jacketed Time Lord. That ninth incarnation of the singularly named man was ever watchful over Rose, complaining she took leave to walk off far too often. So where could he be now? For that matter...where was she?
Rose Tyler stepped out onto the street, facing a new world..time...city...dimension?
"Nof'in can ever be simple can it?"

“You rang?” House said in his best Lurch voice.
Much of his hours had been spent inside the walls of the hospital with a lot of boring business because you had to know the faces before you could spit in them all. His takeover was working well as his bartering of gaining his old job back was growing closer and closer. Until then, clinical visits and whiny nurses were the usual.
“Lost? Yeah. We all are. We don’t even get an island."
He made a face and his shoulders drew together.
"What sort of shit is that?”
His head canted so he could get an accurate leer.
“But I can assure you. You’re in The City. No name.”
Ruminative finger shot up.
“Big walls. Cold. Filled full of psychos from another dimension,” voice lowering in conclusion, “Really reminds me of mom.”
“But anyway. It doesn’t seem you came with an apartment. What’s your name?”

Not at all what she would have expected from the Doctor, her Doctor. Rose turned those youthful blues over the scruffy looking man who seemed to be undecided on just whether or not she'd make a good meal.
"Lost..right. Island..funny bit that."
Half hearted chuckle to appease him and his humor before her eyes were roving over and back along the street. His commentary and questions half heard until those wandering blues sauntered back to him.
"The City...jus' that..noffin' else? Ok. Cold..psychos...great."
The man was clearly unbalanced, but he was making an effort and so she would as well.
"Don' need a flat, thanks." Grin to the TARDIS behind her. "Rose Tyler, Cardiff, an you are...?"

Both of his hands came to crown the cane.
“Gregory House.”
There was a phone-booth behind the blonde. She had just shared an inside-joke sort of grin with a phone-booth. Was this the love-child of Bill S. Preston, Esq and Ted Logan? It was doubtful but she had breasts. That necessitated more of his attention.
“Plenty of room in there, hm? Running water? Bath?”
Though, there was a good chance she could lay Superman if she was going to be playing homeless in a phone-booth in a city where Batman runs around. Beat that Match.com.

His name was House...a dwelling but not a home. It suited him perfectly.
"Nice ta meetcha."
Rose turned to pull the door shut before those inquisitive eyes and lock it up with her key.
"In there? 'Course not...s'just a box."
Played off less then smoothly but what did it matter? By the sounds of things she was already walking on alien turf to her...so it probably didn't matter too much.
"So then...any major world endin' crisis I should be aware of?" She and the Doctor always seemed to find them.

“Then you won’t mind me poking your box.”
Now it was his turn to grin. It was a feisty grin. It made catholic girls faint.
House approached the blue phone-booth. In all of The City, it was the first he’d encounter. It obviously belong to the girl. Like almost everyone and everything here, he couldn’t shake its familiarity.
Cane jabbed at the door now locked door. Clank!

'Ey...'ands off, this is ...private property." The cane was swatted away.
The scoundrel, she was amused despite her best efforts to rise above his decidedly crass and low brow manner...oddly she was reminded of Mickey. Old boy friends could never be a good sign.
