i_seekgod Birthday (backdated)
Continued from here. The warning still stands. This may get ... probably will get ... dirty. Just cause the last one didn't make it there doesn't mean anything.
Jesse got Max back to the apartment without any falls, or futher pokings. But there was plenty of laughter on his part. And a little on hers as well. It was fun, as always. Mostly for him. But he was sure she was enjoying it as well. How could she not?
Upstairs, he discovered the cake untouched, but mostly because it looked as if Kojak didn't have an off button when it came to steaks and potatoes. He'd eaten it all, and was laying pathetically on his side near his water bowl, groaning. Jesse laughed again, this time at the dog's expense.
"Your fault, pal."
Jesse left the dog there and took Max to the couch and sat her down.
"Want more cake, darlin?"
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 17:38:50
"You're trying to make me fat," she accused him, not the first time that night. Max leaned her head on his shoulder as she used her feet to kick off the strappy sandles, that after a lot of giggling and stumbling on the way home, had become uncomfortable.
Her feet dangled over the edge of the couch once she'd accomplished that and she sighed happily. "I think I'm good with the cake. You want some? We didn't have cake on your birthday."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/09/2006 17:45:59
"As if you have the physical ability to get fat." He laughed. "And you're right. There was no cake on my birthday. Because, once again, there was too much alcohol. You're not allowed to get that drunk again for a very, very long tme."
If ever.
Yes, there were some very special memories that Jesse held of that night. Ones he had no plans on sharing with her, just in case she didn't remember. No need to bring that all up again. Avoidance? Yes, please.
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 17:56:20
"Once again? What do you mean once again? I've only gotten drunk around you once," Max pouted expertly. "The other time doesn't count because I was hurt, and Valentines Day wasn't 'cause we were drunk. And on your birthday I was not that drunk." As far as she could remember anyway. She remembered lots of giggles, some tripping, and finally a very long nap.
"Anyway, that's why I asked if you want cake now," she stuck out her tongue. "If not, I can have it for breakfast."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/09/2006 18:04:33
"I mean, once again, as in, I said earlier." He raised an eyebrow at her. "And yes, you most certainly were that drunk on my birthday. And it's even more proof that you don't remember."
He shook his head again. "No, no cake. I'm good. Perfectly alright without cake. For now anyway. Maybe later."
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 18:14:17
"I don't remember being that drunk because I wasn't," she insisted.
Okay, that possibly sounded a little suspect and didn't help her case at all. She tilted her head and looked up at Jesse. "How bad was it? What'd I do?"
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/09/2006 18:16:54
Jesse shook his head. He really didn't want to talk about it. Especially not now, when her day had been so good. "Didn't ... do anything, really. Said. But ... forget it."
He smiled at her to try to get her away from the subject.
"want to watch a movie? Something?"
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 18:24:37
Max eyed him, but didn't push. Though she was getting the feeling she'd done or said something quite memorable that night and hated not being let in on the joke. She made note to one day ask him again, for she could tell now that she was being pushed away from the topic.
"Movie's good," Max said, and then laughed wickedly. "Casablanca?" Really she was joking. She pushed off of him and stood up, watching the look on his face.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/09/2006 18:27:31
"That." He grinned at her. "Is just...naughty."
Jesse put his hands on her hips and turned her around. "Really though, take a look. I bet you find your favorite movie on that shelf. It's an amazing shelf."
He chuckled. "Devil."
She really did know how to be evil.
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 18:37:26
"Naughty. Right. This from the guy who's man-handling me," She touched his hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow of her own at him. "Not that being man-handled is a bad thing, I'm just saying if you're gonna point fingers."
She was facing the movie shelf but she didn't go towards it as his hands were still on her. "And the Devil doesn't wear white..."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/09/2006 18:40:33
"The devil can quote scripture to fit his purposes." Wow. Really spewing out the religious whatnot tonight, wasn't he?
Jesse shook his head and urged her forward.
"Go on. Look. If you find it, put it in. We'll have a relaxing night of too much cake and some movies."
From: i_assist Date: 05/09/2006 19:03:39
She wiggled out of his grip and over to the movie shelf. "I relaxed in the restaurant." Well, she had. And then Jesse had gone and tickled her on the way home, getting her all hyper again.
It was his fault, really.
Out of principle Max pulled Casablanca off the shelf. She grabbed a few others too, but Casablanca was the one she toted over to the player with her and stuck in.
"Look at this way. 'Least now I know who Humphry Bogart is." She said brightly, sitting back down next to him and remembering the guessing game he'd made her play the first time they'd seen it on television. "It teaches me things!"
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/10/2006 06:02:28
"But if you wanted to learn things, shouldn't you be putting in a movie that you haven't seen yet? Casablanca is cheating, darlin. You know these characters."
Of course, he wasn't going to force her to change the movie. If Casablanca was what she wanted to watch, they'd watch it. And maybe he'd make her actually watch it this time.
From: i_assist Date: 05/10/2006 06:24:22
"Not really, I still just kinda remember the last part." She really hadn't been paying much attention last time anyway.
"Besides." Max grinned at him and held up the other movies she'd grabbed. Some movies withstood the test of time. Like Titanic. And When Harry Met Sally. And Sleepless in Seatle. A good romantic chick flick would do that. "We could be watching girly movies instead." She'd grabbed Star Wars too (another one of the few she knew from Jesse's tiem), but she didn't pull that one out now.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/12/2006 16:48:24
"If you wanna watch a chick flick, baby girl, then by all means. It's your day, your birthday. I'm not opposed to a girly movie once in a while anyway. Especially if watchin it happens to make my girl happy."
Really, as long as she didn't go around telling people that he'd watched it, he'd watch as many of them as she wanted.
But she didn't tell her that. Because then she would go tell people.
He knew her.
Bad girl.
"Watch what you want, I'm serious."
From: i_assist Date: 05/12/2006 16:58:10
"You're gonna watch Titanic?" She raised an eyebrow and stared at him for a moment before leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. "Anyone ever tell you that you're pretty much perfect?"
Casablanca wasn't even off the DVD menu before Max was pressing the eject button on the remote and getting up to put in Titanic.
When she settled back into his arms, she looked up mock seriously and said, "I won't tell anyone if you cry." She couldn't say that with a straight face.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/12/2006 18:09:13
"You're a funny one, aren't ya?" Jesse patted her leg a little. "Not only will I not cry, but I think you'd tell everybody if I did."
He'd never seen Titanic. Heard of it. Knew it existed, but had no idea about what happened it in other than a big boat sank. But he'd known that much because of the real thing.
Jesse pulled Max close while it started playing.
From: i_assist Date: 05/12/2006 18:19:42
"I would not," Max said, sticking out her tongue. "I'd probably keep it to myself. For blackmail." She beamed at him.
Actually, come to think of it, she probably wouldn't. If only because there was no one to tell really. Except for maybe Progo, but Max got the feeling that he wouldn't understand enough to tease Jesse mercilessly for it.
She shut up then, when the music and the voiceovers started.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/12/2006 20:39:06
The movie was long. Horribly, torturously long.
He didn't say anything though. He didn't complain once during the entire watching of the movie. He didn't make faces. He didn't sigh.
He just watched.
Of course, he could see why women would like it.
And he did kind of enjoy the ship sinking part.
Jesse also managed to stay awake through the whole thing.
It wasn't the most horrible movie on the planet, but he certainly wouldn't vote to watch it again.
From: i_assist Date: 05/12/2006 20:58:20
Max was rather oblivious to Jesse's internal opinion of the movie, as she was too bust being enthralled. Because she really did like this movie. She had since she'd seen it at Dana's fifth grade sleepover party.
It was just one of those guilty pleasure things, she guessed. Besides, it was a good movie.
Unlike some of her female peers, Max wasn't bawling by the end. Just sad, which was understandable as they ending wasn't exactly peaches and cream. She wasn't bawling, but there were a few sniffles that came out from under Jesse's arms.
"I love that movie," she said as the credits rolled, her voice muffled.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/14/2006 20:32:06
"It was an interesting movie. I like how they took the fact of the incident and blended it with the story they wanted to tell."
Jesse wasn't entirely sure if there was a giant blue precious stone in the world as it was, and couldn't make an argument based on fact that this Titanic story hadn't happened, but he could guess pretty damned well that it hadn't.
Likely, he'd end up watching it again, because Max would feel like a good cuddle movie. So he wasn't about to voice any dislike of it. He wanted her to be happy.
From: i_assist Date: 05/14/2006 20:38:35
She poked him teasingly. "Okay, I think I like it more than you did." Which was alright, so long as he'd watch it with her. Max gave him credit for that.
She stiffled a yawn, and didn't move from his arms even as the credits kept rolling. They'd have to put in something else probably. "It's just... romantic."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/14/2006 20:42:05
"I guess so. I mean, I can see how it is, and all. With the rich girl being all up on the poor kid and all that. Finding out what life really is. But I don't see why they couldn't have shared that floating thing there at the end. He might not have died if ..."
He really wanted to say 'if she wasn't such a selfish bitch' but stayed himself.
"I dunno." He shrugged again. That seemed the safest route. Claim ignorance. "I guess so."
From: i_assist Date: 05/14/2006 20:48:39
"Jesse, that's not the point," Max said, smirking and rolling her eyes. "Though, you sound like every other guy who's seen this movie. You guys just don't understand romance." Except, she knew that wasn't true. Not with Jesse at least.
"It's supposed to be about ever-lasting love, and all that stuff." The mushy stuff she usually hated to watch, except for in this one. "Not the special effects or whether he could've grabbed onto a floating couch." She looked up and stuck her tongue out, just because she knew she was right.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/14/2006 20:53:17
"Well, if you wanna talk special effects, I've seen better. But they were pretty good, sure. I just think that if she really loved him, she would have done more for him. She's supposed to be this strong female character. Earlier, she goes and does things she's not supposed to. She proves she's got balls by doing that toe thing, cause I bet that hurt a lot. And then she like... ignores the bastard that she's supposed to marry or ..." Or had he just made that up? He may have not actually been paying attention.
"So strong female, but suddenly at the end of it, she's got no ability to save the love of her life."
There. He'd said it.
From: i_assist Date: 05/14/2006 20:58:19
"She..." Max sat up slightly, thinking. "I don't know, I think she did what she could. He was the one who put her up on the mirror thing and made all the decisions. She was just listening to him. She believed him when he said he'd be fine."
She shrugged then and smiled. "Y'know, like how I didn't believe you that one time when you said you would be. With The Saint. Shoulda trusted you. That's all she was doing."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/14/2006 21:01:42
"Yes. Well. The Saint is an entirely different thing that yes, you should have trusted me on. But if we were in freezing water and I said 'hey Max, just let me hang here off the edge of the mirror', do you really think that you'd listen and just do nothing? Because I think you wouldn't."
He grinned. "Entirely different points, don't you think?"
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 13:57:04
"No, I probably wouldn't," Max admitted. She smirked a bit. "Okay, maybe it wasn't the smartest idea on his part, but it was a better ending. Kinda." It was hard to say that a character dying senselessly at the end made for a better movie. But at least it was effective.
"Whatever, nothing you say is going to make me stop liking that movie. It's just good." She grinned and then stretched. "A little long, though. You wanna move?"
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 14:12:54
"Yes. Moving would be good. And I think I could use a little of that cake now."
Jesse slid off the couch and did his own stretching. Then went to the kitchen where the cake sat on the counter.
"Do you want some?"
He got himself a plate, and an extra, just in case, and then started to cut himself a slice. It was gooey and chocolatey and he was really looking forward to it.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 14:24:40
"I think so." Max followed him into the kitchen, eying the cake with a newly awakened hunger. Three hours on the couch would do that.
She looked around and then finally sat down in one of the kitchen chairs, crossing her legs easily. "Yeah, I'm definitely glad this was here. And no candles to blow out makes it so much easier." She accepted the plate when it was handed to her and looked down at the cake, grinning. "C'mon. Sit down."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 14:27:30
He got them forks and sat down, smiling big.
"I knew I'd want this later. I like having my cake well after I've had any main meal. It leaves me more room to have more cake."
Jesse thought of something and stood up. "Want some milk?" Not that the cake needed moisture, it was the most moist cake he'd ever seen in his life. But he liked milk with chocolate.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 15:12:21
She took the fork, but shook her head to the milk. "No thanks, I'm good."
Max tilted her head as she watched him get up. There was this strange sort of content feeling running through her that if asked about, she wouldn't have been able to describe, but it made her happy.
When Jesse came back over she dabbed her finger in the chocolate icing and then leaned over and swiped it on to his nose. "Tradition." Max nodded sagely, attempting to keep a straight face.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 15:15:08
Jesse crossed his eyes to look at the chocolate. Got some on his own finger, and swiped it across her cheek.
"Two can play that game."
Okay, so it was a shame to be wasting such good cake, but well worth it.
Jesse swiped the other cheek too.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 15:19:26
"I was serious!" Max was laughing now as she leaned over and got a nice long trail on his forehead. "We used to do this at birthday parties. But just on noses." She got his chin and licked the rest off her finger.
"Granted, that stopped in like, middle school, but..." She grinned innocently at him.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 16:57:01
"Then it's not really tradition, is it?" He said it as he put a big smear on her nose. "Guess we can start our own. Cake wars."
Jesse grinned at her as he took a bite of his cake. Not all of it would go to fighting, he was determined. He'd get a few bites in before this went too far.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 17:04:27
"Oh, war?" Max grinned evily at him. "You're calling this war now? Because this isn't war."
Okay, so most of icing was going to go towards winning the battle, but she didn't care. She'd had chocolate earlier, after all. Max got chocolate onto all five finger tips and then ran them across Jesse's cheek.
Sitting back, she took a bite of her near icingless cake and smiled at him smugly. "That's war."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 18:08:46
Jesse's grin was just as wicked. "No, baby girl. This is war."
He picked up the whole cake from his plate and leaned over to her and smushed it into her face. Then smeared it around some.
After which, he sat back down and started to lick the cake from his fingers.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 18:17:21
And here she'd thought he was actually going to eat the thing. She'd been being nice and just using icing.
"I cannot believe..." She wiped at her face and looked down at her hand as if she had to make sure that had really just happened. She shook off her hand when she looked back up at him. "You are so dead."
Max threw propriety out the window and grabbed the rest of her's to smear all over his face. And then, because she'd used all the icing on her's, she took a slice from the cake on the table and smeared that all over him as well.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 18:19:22
Jesse grabbed the rest of the cake before she could get any more of it and ran around the table. He tore off a chunk of it and threw it at her, and then continued to run. He was laughing now. Hard. Almost too much to actually run. Another hunk of cake flew at her. And then another.
"Catch me if you can, baby doll." And flung another piece at her.
She wanted cake war, she was going to get cake war.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 18:25:13
"You can't leave me without weapons! That's not fair!" Max jumped up laughing from the table determined to get the cake back. The piece he hurled at her landed on her chest and started dropping down, completely staining her dress, but she didn't care at all at this point.
She chased after him, bare feet slapping on the floor. But who really cared about stealth now. This was going to end soon anyway, she'd see to that.
"It's my cake anyway." She grabbed at Jesse and reached up, trying to get a piece to throw back at him. He was tall though.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 18:27:12
"You're right. It's your cake. So here, have another piece." He grabbed a handful of it and pushed it into her face. And then put another handful on top of her head.
"Would you like some more?" He called as he scooted around the couch.
"Now you'll never get it!" He laughed and hurled more in her direction.
Kojak was having a ball, running around lapping up the stray piles on the floor.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 18:36:39
Max had to stop and wipe off her face again before she could continue the chase. She was going to have chocolate on her for days.
When she could see again she jumped over Kojak and clambered up onto the couch so that she was looking down at Jesse over the back. "Dead. I told you, you're dead." She managed to grab a piece and throw it straight down onto his face before half jumping and half falling over the back in her attempt to grab the rest of it from him.
Laughing, she started pushing herself back up, reaching for another piece to throw as she did.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 19:23:02
"I think you're on the losing side here!" He tossed more cake at her. Jesse slipped in a pile of cake, but managed to keep the cake aloft.
"You'll never get more ammo! Never!"
THe apartment was a mess, but that was okay. He wasn't worried about it in the least.
More cake smeared into her face as he lunged forward, did it, and then moved back again.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 19:30:56
"Yes. I. Will." Max jumped forward and attempted to not slide on any icing as she grabbed for the cake. It was her's, and that didn't mean, as Jesse seemed to think, that she needed more smeared on her.
She slammed into him, not entirely on purpose. The soles of her feet were covered in chocolate and keeping balance was kind of hard. "I'm going to hurt in the morning," she said, grabbing a chunk to hurl at him.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 19:32:44
He caught her and nodded. "Yes. You will."
She was grabbing for cake, and he couldn't really keep it out of reach, so instead, he just turned it over on top of her. Maybe she had all of it now, but at least he got to use it first.
Jesse made sure she was standing okay, and then let go, and made an attempt at escape.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 19:40:22
He'd pretty much won this one. She had to admit it to herself. But that didn't mean she was going down without getting the last word.
He'd made a mistake of letting her stand. Max shook off quickly and grabbed the biggest chunk of cakethat had ended up on her face, then took off after Jesse.
With a semi-running start, Max jumped up on his back when he'd gotten near the couch and smooshed as much of the rest of the cake that she could into his face. "You were saying?" she said smugly.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 19:50:42
"You've fallen right into my trap, is what I was saying."
He grabbed her by the feet and held her on. From there, he ran into the bedroom, where he tossed her onto the bed. Jesse rubbed his caked hair in her face and all over her white dress. He pulled bits off of himself to rub onto her.
And laughed a lot.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 19:55:55
Max started shrieking, because at the moment that was the only thing she could do. That and roll around and flail a lot. She was rolling cake all into the bed, but as far as she was concerned, that was Jesse's fault.
"Stop it!" She giggled out. The whole thing was rather ticklish and she couldn't help the giggles that slipped out. "Jesse, c'mon. You know you won."
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/15/2006 20:09:41
"It's all about the overkill."
The only thing to be done now was to tickle her. And be merciless about it. So he was. Sides, stomach, back of the knee. Top of the knee. Thigh. Anything he could reach.
He held down her hands with one of his, and used the other one to do his damage.
From: i_assist Date: 05/15/2006 20:14:53
There was nothing left to do now but giggle uncontrolably. Which she did like a pro. This was a game they'd played several times before.
"You...have... to... stop." Max managed to gasp out. "I can't breathe!" It was an old ploy that never worked, but it always helped to try.
She tried pushing him up and off of her, but all that got her was tired arms. So finally she just grabbed him and yanked him down. At least he wasn't tickling anymore.
From: i_seekgod Date: 05/16/2006 00:59:27
He was tickling her, and then he was kissing her. She was pinned down on the bed, covered in chocolate, and he was kissing her. It was deliciously chocolatey.
Jesse put a cake-smeared hand on her cheek and kissed her as deeply as he could.
He pulled away enough to see her eyes, and studied them. Even covered in food, she was beautiful. Jesse smiled softly down at Max.
From: i_assist Date: 05/19/2006 15:24:37
Max didn't really feel beautiful. She felt covered in icing and crumbs and knew she had globs and chunks of it all over her. But maybe she didn't care so much.
She smiled back at him before tilting her head up as much as was comfortable and kissing him again. Her arms went up around his neck as she kissed him contently.
