The lobby had proved less of of a problem then she would have thought. A brief interlude with a rather severe looking receptionist was handed smoothly by Inara. I'm expected, don't worry we can see ourselves up. With the well times addition of Eddies own glare of disdain for the short bun haired woman they passed with no further question.
"You have an excellent air of quiet authority, who were you imitating?" The silent unquestioning persona was not his clearly, buy someone he knew well enough to have imprinted himself with it. He was gifted at it, must have been a wonderful mimic in his own right. Inara smiled as the elevator rushed up toward the viewing station that topped the business floors of the building. Apparently there were some offices above and beyond that, but those were of no concern to them at present.
A soft chime sounded a moment after motion had ceased, glossy brass doors slid open and the expanse of concrete lay before them. The horizon greeted them first to every side the purple pink glow faded into blue sky, dusted with clouds. Inara stepped forward first eyes sweeping over the landscape for once becoming aware of the geography of The City. Mal was somewhere out there, but there was a whole lot of out there.

"Nice view." A little terse as he said it, but it was Eddie being terse, not Eddie playing the 'What Would Roland Do'? game. Eddie didn't like heights, and this was … this was a far ways up. "We need some binoculars, they got binoculars in your when?" He figured they must, or have something even fancier, after all she came from a time of spaceships.
He hung back, not wanting to get close to the edge. All this thing needed was a giant ape … best not to think that. He had almost been turned into Giant Bear lunch, best not to temp fate.
"I was … I was copying a friend."
Hah, Roland, my friend. Well he is.
Eddie shook his head, he was never going to get over this 'talking to himself' habit. At least he wasn't talking to himself in Henry's voice. This might have been the longest Eddie was ever silent, and because he couldn't stand silence he moved a few steps forward.
"So, what's the plan now? I mean, stand up here and yell out; 'Heeey, is anybody out there?'" And because hey, why not? He stepped forward to holler out; "Hey, Suze? You out there?"

"I thought we might use these."
Inara must have been blocking his view of the steel mounted viewing station. Two of the mounted binoculars stood just ahead of her and two more further down along the way. SHe tried not to smirk too much with the roll of her wrist to indicate the viewers.
"Feel free to shout though, in this place I refuse to take anything for granted."
Inara stepped up and peered through the dual lenses out over the city. Magnified as it was she had to blink rapidly before she realized she had yet to focus the lenses. Odd conglomeration of buildings and green space ranged far out as she could see.
"If they are here, their somewhere out there."

Eddie just hadn't been looking really, well he had been looking but he had been looking at the vast space that spread out before him. HE was getting that needle in a haystack feeling.
"If they are here, and that's the question isn't it." He was trying to look on the bright side, but man it was hard. "And if they are here, and we see them." Really big if there, "The streets might not stay the same long enough for us to get to them."
Wow, he was just a ray of sunshine today.

"If, as you say, they are here then we stand a better chance of knowing where to look by getting a good view."
Inara was already swinging the viewer around over expanses of city blocks, some cobblestone, some dark pavement still others potholed and steaming. Eddie could look for his people as he wished, but she was going to take pains to carefully scour for any signs of...
...wreckage. She spotted two distinct bits of what she knew to be Serenities hull on opposing sides of the city. Her own shuttle was somewhat in the middle but neither was close by any means. Though clearly the pieces of the ship had been torn from one another they still looked to be in stable solid shape. If she could survive in her shuttle and then surely Mal or Zoe or Kaylee could have made it down in those.
"The patient are rewarded. I see parts of Serenity. If my people are here it seems likely yours have been brought here as well."

"Maybe, maybe not." Eddie was drifting into a pessimistic mood, and he couldn't shake it. "well good, you mark where you saw your people, and we'll go there." He didn't think Inara needed a bodyguard for real, but hey, it wasn't like he had anything else to do. Besides if they had a space ship, well, maybe they could do some aerial surveillance.
He doubted he was going to look through that viewer thing and find his people. He'd give it a whirl, but if his friends where here, well what where the odds of finding them? Eddie knew he was going to have to pull himself out of this funk and but soon.

Inara made a mental note of the general location and distance to the two bits of Serenity that she found. Eddies tone was not inspiring much confidence in his hope of finding his own people.
"Eddie, what would your missing people do if they arrived here?"
Maybe thinking like them might leads him to where they would go. It was at least a way to get his mind on something other then his obviously spiraling mood.
She wanted to say something, something to ease his emotional burden but felt she was inadequate in the face of what he was without. All she could do was nod to his course of action and agree.
"Of course. I am sure I can find the places myself though if you feel you'd rather look on your own. I'm afraid I haven't been much help to you at all."
Not often Inara found herself lacking, but this was one of those rare and uncomfortable times. She turned back for the doors to the hall and elevator beyond.

He shrugged and followed after her. "Hey, hold up." Simple fact was, Eddie didn't do well by himself. He knew that, he'd get into trouble and hey least he could do was help her find her people.
"Look, I'll walk you at least part of the way to where your people are, err .. might be. I'm going to be wandering aimlessly anyway, I might as well wander ... a little less aimlessly."

The pauses was long enough for him to catch up, the smile soft and welcoming. "I'm glad for the company. Thank you Eddie."
It was better for her to have someone to walk with, but it might just be the best thing for him. He did not strike her as the type who was at his best alone. Who knew, in this city of wonders there might yet be some hope of finding both of their people. At least now they had a starting point.
Elevator down, out the front doors and out toward the wide green expanse where Inara was sure she'd seen part of Serenity.
