i_shop Challenge #1 - Vincent always leads her into trouble [Shannon/Harry]
"Vincent! Vin- stop! Bad boy!"
Nothing worked. The labrador seemed to have a mind of its own. Shannon couldn't keep up, but the leash was wrapped firmly around her wrist, and it wasn't going to come off in a hurry. It was useless trying to drag him back, too. Vincent was very strong. What does this dog eat, anyway?
She was too busy running to really notice what she was passing. Cars, for instance. And other people. Most of them avoided the girl with the dog, but inanimate objects can hardly jump out of the way.
"Shit!"
Shannon swerved to avoid a pole, only to bowl straight into someone who was innocently walking along the street.
There was a small snap! as Vincent's collar broke.
She watched him run off, and felt like crying. She didn't even think to apologise to the guy she ran into.

Harry had been exploring the City. He'd found the old college in order, but no sign of Oscorp, to his distress. Fortunately, he still had his old penthouse apartment, his stock of goblin supplies, and a hefty bank account, so he didn't worry too much about his father's company, as he had never really enjoyed running it anyways.
No. Enjoyed would have been the wrong word to use. He was constantly at odds with the board members, constantly struggling to prove himself to them, and to the outside world, as worthy heir to the Oscorp throne.
And now... it was just himself and Peter in the City. And for his part, Peter had hidden well. After the day with the explosions, there had been no sign of Peter anywhere, though he'd searched high and low.
And so, today he was less obsessed with the idea of finding Peter. Today he just wanted a cup of coffee.
Today he felt a sharp jolt as someone knocked into him.
"Hey, watch where you're going-" he began before looking down at the offender and realizing that she happened to be a petite, very attractive blonde. Harry had always had a soft spot for beautiful women. His attachment to Mary Jane was proof of that. Usually, he went for blondes, but of course Mary Jane had been... Mary Jane.
"Hey," he repeated, his voice taking on a gentler tone as he put a hand on her arm to steady her. "Are you okay, miss...?"

"Does it look like I'm okay?" Shannon snapped, without thinking. She does this. A lot. It didn't help that this City thing was really creepy. She never thought she'd say it but she'd rather be back on the island. This was starting to get to her.
"I was shot, yesterday, and I thought I'd be dead, but I'm not, and I was on an island but now I wake up in this weird place and no one I know is here and my dog just ran away and I don't know what the hell is happening and. I. Am. Not. Fucking. Okay!"
She forgot to mention meeting some creepy guy in a long black cloak who talked in her head. She didn't need to feel any crazier.
The hand on her arm was too much. She started to sob.

"Shot?" Harry repeated blankly, the words barely registering. The woman was rude, and he opened his mouth to retort when she burst into tears.
He hesitated for a second before gently patting her shoulder.
"Shh, it's okay," he murmured. After a moment, he took a step towards her, realizing people were starting to stare.
"Perhaps we should go and sit down, have a cup of coffee?" he suggested quietly. Though it sounded like a question, it was rather a suggestion that he was fairly confident would be accepted. After all, nobody said no to Harry Osborn. Except Mary Jane, that was. But he didn't like to think about that.

Shannon wasn't rude normally. At least, not this rude.
Coffee, would be nice. Surreal, but nice. She nodded at Harry's suggestion, because if she tried to talk she'd end up crying more.
She made a little uhhm sound at the back of her throat, just in case he didn't catch the nod.
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 03/31/2006 19:28:57
"Okay then," he said with a short nod, gently leading her towards a tiny cafe, selecting a table near the back of the restaurant. As a waiter brought them a menu, he gave a small smile to the girl, offering his hand.
"I've just realized we haven't been properly introduced. I'm Harry Osborn. And you are?"
From: [info]i_shop Date: 03/31/2006 19:37:15
Shannon felt high strung already. So coffee shouldn't make a difference, right?
It was highly irregular to be drinking coffee with someone you just met in a strange place you just got dumped into. Well, not so much the "coffee with someone you just met" part. That was nothing out of the ordinary.
She took the proffered hand. Hers was trembling a little. "Shannon."
She stared a little at the waitress with the menu. "Where am I?"
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 03/31/2006 20:10:25
Harry noticed the waitress' curious expression and waved her away.
"Two expressos, skim milk to start," he ordered, before turning his attention to Shannon, taking her hand and giving it a little squeeze, and then bringing it up to his lips and gently kissing it.
"Please to meet you, Shannon." he leaned in to answer her question, lowering his voice.
"And you're in the City-capital C, no proper name besides that from what I gathered, a place that seems to host several people who were relocated against their will. I only wonder..." he studied her face thoughtfully. If she had been shot, and he had been fighting with Peter to the death before the relocation...
"You don't suppose this is some sort of afterlife, do you?" he questioned.
From: [info]i_shop Date: 03/31/2006 23:42:50
It was hard to pretend she wasn't flattered by the kiss- no one does that now- but what came after that was not so welcomed.
"Afterlife." Shannon looked Harry in the eye, wondering if he was being serious or not. "Afterlife." She repeated, then tried to push the thought away. She had just managed to get her crying under control, she did not even want to start thinking about the implications of that right now.
"You have got to be kidding me."
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/01/2006 14:26:06
"I'm not joking, but..." he frowned, his brow furrowing in contemplation. "I don't think it is, because I'd imagine we wouldn't be living and breathing here if it were."
He shrugged slightly. "And I don't think my-uh, friend and I would have ended up in the same place if that was the case."
He forced a small smile, taking a sip of his coffee. "Where were you before you found yourself here?" he asked.
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/02/2006 16:16:56
Well, if it really was the afterlife, then they wouldn't need to do silly things like breathe, right? But, like she said, not going down that train anymore.
"An island. Our plane crashed there a month ago. I don't know how-" Ugh. Shannon felt frustrated. It was all this not knowing.
Time for a subject change. "What did you do to end up in this place?"
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/02/2006 22:46:05
"Your plane crashed on an island a month ago, and no one's located you yet?" Harry asked, blinking in surprise. Of course, it was rather a moot point, given that she was here and not stuck on the island anymore.
"Me?" Harry hesitated at the question, the faintest glimmer of the goblin's voice in the back of his head. "I was... fighting with a former friend of mine. I'm not entirely certain how it turned out, but I blacked out and next thing I know, I'd woken up here. Thing is, he's here too, but he didn't arrive anywhere near me." His brow furrowned with concentration as he wondered at the fact that Pete also didn't seem to be aware of his identity as the Goblin, which was odd given the fact that he'd discovered said identity before they had ended up here.
Very odd indeed.

"I guess it must have been a magical island." Shannon remarked, not trying to keep the bitterness from leaking into her voice. Damn that John Locke. If it wasn't for him, then Boone would be here too. Probably.
"Fighting?" The word was expressed in a more mundane sense when she said it. Because, hey, flying costumed people were things of cartoons and comics.
She and Sayid were fighting. Sort of. In that mundane way she thought Harry was referring to. "My dog... came with me too."
"Well. He's not my dog, I'm just looking after him until Walt comes back and."
Shannon stopped herself. Why was she babbling?
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/03/2006 12:45:55
"Betrayal is not something I take lightly," he said in response to her question. The goblin's voice roared inside of him, but he shook his head slightly in an attempt to clear his head.
He forced a small smile.
"But that's not exactly a pleasant topic of conversation, so perhaps it's time we moved on." It sounded polite enough, but something in his eyes indicated very clearly that the topic was to be dropped.
"Where were you living before the island?" he asked her.
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/03/2006 16:39:20
Any other time, Shannon would be totally curious. And she would pick up some sense of the drama. But she didn't.
Instead, she shrugged. Talking about normal things almost restored normality here.
"Oh, everywhere. I moved around a lot. Boston, LA." Shannon took a sip from her coffee, frowned a little, then proceeded to dump four spoonfuls of sugar in it. This was going to have consequences, but she didn't care. She never liked the bitter taste of coffee, and she needed the boost. Maybe.
"I was in Sydney before the trip. Kinda like LA, but smaller, and not as good shopping."
If she didn't think much about it, this was just like chatting to an old friend at home. Despite the sugar, Shannon was still feeling a little drained.
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/04/2006 18:09:56
Harry watched with a bemused expression as the blonde practically drenched her coffee with sugar.
"Not a coffee drinker normally, are you?" he asked, trying to keep the corners of his lips from curving upwards. It was endearing, actually. Not to mention a stark contrast from New York girls, who were always hopped up on far too much caffeine.
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/04/2006 19:02:59
Shannon shook her head. "Hot chocolate. Maybe chai." Because chai was such a bitch drink. And it served the same function as coffee did, and tasted nicer.
The coffee wasn't doing a thing. She yawned, not bothering to cover her mouth or anything. Vincent had been pushed to the back of her mind.
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/05/2006 13:30:07
"Well next time we'll have to go out for chai then," Harry said with a pleasant smile.
He caught her yawn and raised an eyebrow.
"You look like you could use a nap."
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/05/2006 22:33:27
She really could.
But there was no where for her to stay. Shannon shrugged and gulped down the rest of her coffee; screw dignity or poise or whatever. "Know of any decent hotels nearby?"
She didn't have any money, but she'd deal with that later. Right now, she needed to sleep. And then take a shower. Or maybe the shower first.
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/06/2006 09:18:26
"No," he said simply. "But I do have a fairly comfortable guest bedroom that's sitting empty at the moment."
He gave her his best harmlessly charming smile. He had no plans of taking advantage of her helplessness in the situation.
For now. But it was always good to have people that owed you favors. Not to mention that having a pretty blonde in the apartment for a bit might brighten the place up, as Peter's old room remained as a gaping hole. The bleeding wound that couldn't be stitched up. And the silence at the apartment was only broken by the goblin's voice whispering in his ear. Perhaps if she came back with him, the goblin would leave him alone for awhile.
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/06/2006 16:23:10
Shannon didn't like to ask for help, but when it was offered, she'd take it. But even she would need to think twice before going to the apartment of someone she'd just met.
"Oh?" She quirked a brow, "how do I know if you're not a rapist serial killer?"
There was a small hint of humour in her voice, but it was a valid question. After all, just because he was cute didn't mean that he wasn't crazy.
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/07/2006 07:40:51
He glanced at her and furrowed his brow in concern.
"Good question. Is there any type of litmus test for that?"
He smiled at her.
"Truth is, you don't know. How do you ever know? You'll just have to go on faith here."
From: [info]i_shop Date: 04/07/2006 18:49:16
"Hmm." Shannon pursed her lips and looked at Harry with a small twinkle in her eye.
"You do seem somewhat trustworthy, Harry Osborn," this was said with a small twitch of her lips, "and how could a girl say no to that sort of sincerity?"
From: [info]i_flyhigh Date: 04/08/2006 11:50:05
He grinned and stood up, leaving money on the table that would more than cover the coffee and a healthy tip. Looking down at her, he offered his hand to help her up.
"One hasn't yet," he quipped.
