i_turngreen After the blast...
Summary: After the explosions, Jennie gets hurt and Kyle takes her back to his place. Heh.
Kyle was still working to procress Jennie's last words --him? A member of the Justice League? Right. She had to be kidding-- when he saw the chunk fall out from the ceiling. He wasn't quick enough to knock Jennie out of the way, and he couldn't use the ring. Too much energy was going towards getting the injured out. Though, now Jennie seemed to be one of those.
Kyle moved over as fast as he could to catch Jennie before she fell. Balanced in his arms, he prevented her from completely hitting the floor. "Jade? Can you hear me?" WeasleySister: She vaguely heard Kyle's voice above her somewhere. Something was nagging at her. She needed to... do something.
Wake up. That's what she needed to do here. She was needed.
Her eyes fluttered open as she followed the sound of his voice back to consciousness.
"Ky-Lantern," she forced herself to sit up. "I'm fine," she insisted, and then looked around. "The building's unstable. We need to get the rest of these people out of here."
"Agreed," Kyle said as the rumble from another explosive device shook the building. It hadn't happened from inside, lucky or else they might have lost the building then and there. Kyle looked towards the window and saw a new plume of smoke coming from a few blocks down.
He was hesitant to let her go, noticing a nice sized bruise along with a cut on her head. She wasn't completely 'fine'. "Okay, we'll finish this floor and then we've got to get out."
"Okay," she said, getting to her feet and focusing her energy on more stretchers to get the injured out, ignoring the throbbing pain on her forehead.
Fortunately, this was the last floor, so at least those who worked for the Voice would be safe... she hoped. Some of them didn't look to be in that good of shape.
Allowing her concern to give her energy, she continued to help the victims out, feeling a sense of relief as she heard the wail of sirens and looked out the window to spot a few EMTs loading people into ambulances. Help had finally arrived.
Good. Someone seemed to know what to do with the pile of bodies. Kyle would have stayed to help further had be been by himself, but he want to help Jennie now. She was just as important as any of the other bruised people down there, and at least they had EMTs.
"C'mon." Kyle scooped Jennie up very determinedly in his arms and stepped towards one of the blown out windows. The green glow surrounding him grew brighter as they took off.
"Got first aid stuff in your apartment? If not, I do."
She opened her mouth to protest, but instead nodded slightly before slumping against him. Now that the adrenaline had worn off, her head was really beginning to throb, and she was almost certain that sticky wet trickle she felt down her forehead was blood.
If she had had to, she could have made it home alone. Or so she told herself.
Kyle floated upwards and over the city. It was so much easier to see the destruction from up here. Looked like he and Jennie had been right before, the explosions had stayed contained in on central area. That was good, less damage, and he could take her straight to his apartment. It was closer than hers and hadn't been affected by the bombs as far as he could tell from up here. Of course, sa few were still going off, but it looked like they were staying within the contained radius.
He made a sharp right and then headed straight as fast as he safely could towards his apartment. The window he'd left open earlier that morning was still as such, he could see from the sky, and when he touched down on the window sil he was grateful for it.
He navigated Jennie carefully through the window, still holding on to her. It was very obvious to him now that she probably wouldn't be standing by herself. Gently, Kyle set her down on his bed. It wasn't made or anything, but it would do.
"I'm going to get you a bandage and some ice," he said clearly, hoping she was still coherent enough to hear. "Try and stay up just until I get back."
She opened her mouth to make a joke about him just wanting to get her into bed, before closing it again as she remembered that this wasn't her Kyle. They weren't to the point where she could make those sorts of jokes.
So instead, she nodded slightly, and then opened her mouth to protest.
"Kyle, I'm really okay..." she murmured, even as her head drooped against the pillow and her eyelids grew incredibly heavy.
"I really don't think you are, that was a good blow to the head. It pretty much took you out right there," Kyle answered her. He came back into the room quickly, carrying a bag of ice, a cloth to lay it on on her skin, and some supplies to clean the resulting cut.
"Here." He dabbed at her forhead with peroxide and then places a good sized piece of gauze on top along with some medical tape. It was a little messy, but he really wasn't an expert. Then he laid the cloth over her forehead and set the ice down. "That should keep down the swelling, and the cold should help keep you alert."
She winced slightly as the peroxide stung her cut. But then, just as quickly, he had removed it. She looked up at him, only now registering just how close he was to her.
"Kyle..." she began, then stopped herself, averting her gaze. "I'm glad you're okay," she murmured.
"Thanks." Kyle, unsurprisingly, didn't notice her hesitation. He just wasn't looking for things like that. "Can't say my cubical will ever be the same, but, guess it's better than getting all smashed up myself."
He let go of the ice, letting it rest on her forehead by itself and transfered the peroxide and extra gauze to his bedside table. "You should probably stick around until you can walk or fly by yourself."
Her head was already drooping onto his shoulder.
"All right," she murmured as her body rested against his. "Sorry about your cubicle..."
"Jennie, my cubicle doesn't matter in all this, you know that. I was joking." He did that a lot in stressful situations, or so other people claimed. He couldn't help it.
He got up from the bed and knocked a few of the spare clothes off so that he could pull up the blankets for her. Lifting her legs up, he moved the blankets and then put her legs back down and began to tuck her in.
She looked up in surprise, waking up quickly as he moved away. She tried to keep the disappointment off her face, and instead forced a small smile as he began to tuck her in.
"Kyle, you don't have to do that," she murmured, resting against the pillow, still very sleepy.
"I'm not keeping you from anything, am I?" she suddenly realized that if she had a life here, a boyfriend even, there was a good chance he did as well. Or if he hadn't on arrival, he'd most likely met someone by now. She wasn't jealous, really. More just... surprised at the thought. And perhaps a little ashamed she hadn't thought about it sooner.

"More important than this?" Kyle eyed her. That blow to the head must've been pretty bad. He shook her head. "Never. I'll stay until you fall asleep, until you wake up if you want me too."
