i_hide Not in Kansas, or New York, anymore. (MJ's arival, open)
Peter was gone.
It was a fact she was going to have to resign herself to. As if it wasn't bad enough that he had been brought back a beaten and bloodied corpse, no, his body had to be shredded and left like an empty husk. For everything else they had been through, there had always seemed to be some sort of hope to keep her going.
On again off again relationship, and marriage. MJ and Pete had been through it all and always ended up together, except this time. The redhead tried to comfort Aunt May, in the end the older woman left without a word, another vanishing in her life. The Avengers had been kind but in the end it was no longer her place to stay. Logan had made her very aware that he was willing to help look after her now. That was the final straw that drove her out.
MJ grabbed a cab on 47th, she slumped down in the seat and told the driver to do what he did best...drive. However far a hundred bucks could get her, it wasn't about a destination, it was about getting away. Fifteen minutes into the trip heavy lids slid down over emerald green eyes, she fell asleep.
Three hours and countless miles later a gentle jostling wakes her, sleepy eyes flutter awake and she exits the cab. Thankful for the time out of the world, time where she wasn't bothered by anyone. It wasn't until she realized she had no idea where she was that she started to panic. She was in the middle of a busy city, but with no recognizable buildings. For the woman who has modeled in every major city in the world to find herself suddenly lost, MJ stood shivering on the corner, arms folded around herself before she turned to look for a familiar sight, MJ started walking toward the center of the city.

Max had Ace again, and as she half walked, half ran down the city street with Ace pulling her along, she realised just how much she'd missed being able to walk him. Her balance was a bit off, as she was still wearing the sling and had her backpack on, so there was a little stumbling going on in there too, but she was just happy to be out and about.
She was headed towards the park, she thought, but she hadn't been down this way in awhile and getting turned around in this place was definitely easy. After awhile Max just relenquished all control and let Ace to the leading. He usually knew how to get to the park.
Except, not today. She realised soon that they were headed towards the center of the city, and that on this rather long lead, Ace had a lot of room to explore. And to sniff people.
"Ace... Ace, get off of the nice woman." Max shot the red haired woman a few feet away from her an apologetic glance. "Sorry! He hasn't been out in forever."

(Massive apologies, I didn't realize my post didn't go through! Reposting humbly.)
Mary Jane was not in Kansas anymore, nor was she is New York, Paris, Milan, Miami or L.A. She was not, point of fact, anywhere she even remotely recognized. MJ Wandered down the sidewalk in search of a pay phone, if she didn't know where she was at least she might be able to get in touch with the Avengers, they could find the old angel on a head of a pin. Barely half a block into her sojourn the red head found herself accosted by a large but friendly furry new face.
"Whoa...hey there fella. You can spot a stray pretty good huh?"
MaryJane knelt to scratch the dog as his owner explained his abundant energy and enthusiasm. Broad pull of lips in the easy megawatt smile she was famous for, MJ looked up at the woman.
"I know how he feels, except now I'm not exactly sure where this wonderful out I've found is. You don't happen to have an idea do you?"

Max yanked on Ace's lead, not cruely, but enough to get him to pull back slightly. At this rate she was going to have to retrain him.
"Sorry," Max appologised again before glaring at Ace and telling him to sit and heel until he chose one and did it. Max didn't care so long as he was still.
"Are you new to The City?" she asked once Ace had settled down. The woman's words could only mean that. Unless she'd had a sudden fit of amnesia after walking out of her front door. "'cause that's what this 'out' is."
((No worries! It's still here to log :-) ))

"I must be,"
MJ stood and looked all around her.
"I've traveled alot and I don't recognize this place at all.
At least she couldn't place it, it felt something like other places she had been, but nothing she could put her finger on. Well as long as she was talking ashe might as well introduce herself. A hand rose and offered to the other woman.
"By the way, I'm Mary-Jane Watson, M.J. for short."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 03/17/2006 15:29:42
"I'm Maxine, Max for short," she said, reaching out and shaking the woman's hand.
"Most people who first arrive here have no clue where they are, don't worry." Max let her eyes wander around slightly, looking at The City. Moving as always. "I had plenty of 'what the hell' moments when I first go here. 'specially after seeing NYC, Gotham, and Center City all squished up together this one time. Where're you from originally?"
From: [info]i_hide Date: 03/18/2006 14:03:09
"Originally...Pennsylvania...New York for the last few years. I don't recognize Gotham or Center City...European?"
It might make sense, or they could just be places MJ was oblivious to.
"By the sound of that alot of people just...end up here."
A question disguised as a statement.

"Oh yeah, we do. Or, they do. Yeah..." Max shrugged a bit, befor shaking her head a quirking a smile. Maybe Mary Jane was from Jesse's world, because here was yet another person who hadn't heard of Gotham. And apparently thought it was European.
"Gotham's a city... kinda close to New York," she explained. "S'where I'm from. But it's one of the cities all smashed up in here. You're from NYC? Then you can probably find your apartment somewhere around here. If you had one."

A cute furrow creased her brow, somehow she had a way of making even such a mystified expression look like it belonged on a magazine cover. Which, this woman had obviously never seen the ones with MJ. Ms. Watson was not the type that was easy to overlook or forget, so not being recognized by anyone on the street was an anguished blessing.
Sure there were no autograph hounds looking to sell signed pics on eBay, but also this meant this here (..whereever this mysterious here was) was not her here. She'd never thought she would miss the snap shots and incessant hounding of fans, but all of a sudden the lack of them was making her feel out of place.
So that was it. Sure Peter had told her about stranger things with Madame Web...she was just in some sort of alternate version of reality. Great. Would she then really be able to find her home?
"Uhhh..ok...You happen to know the way to the Avengers building?"
From: [info]i_assist Date: 03/20/2006 13:59:01
"I know the way to the Teen Titans Tower!" Max threw back jokingly, but then she realised that the Avengers Building was actually a place Mary Jane expected her to know. Except, she didn't. At all.
Max frowned slightly and then gave the woman yet another appologetic look. "I don't know the way there. Um... I haven't even heard of it. Is it in New York?" She shrugged and yanked on Ace's leash once or twice, noticing that he was trying to pull away.
"Sometimes, the way The City works, if you think about the place you wanna go hard enough, it'll pop up."
From: [info]i_hide Date: 03/23/2006 18:22:43
"Teen Titans? Sounds like some new boy band."
MJ snickered and clucked her tongue thoughtfully. Everyone knew of the Avengers, but..then again everyone knew her too. Max seemed to be of the opinion that sheer force of will could conjure up the building, an idea MJ was not as sure on. But hey. what the hell?
"Ok, well...then...uhh..know a place where I can find a hotel or something? Just for a day or so until I manage to figure things out here."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 03/24/2006 15:51:15
"Oh, yeah. My boyfriend was staying in a hotel for awhile. It's down by the park. Ace?" She looked down, giving the dog a meaningful look and hoped he understood. He knew the way to Jesse and Kojak's old place well enough. Or at least the way to the park.
He seemed to understand that she wanted to start moving anyway, and he stood up and began to trot along. "It was an alright place. Clean and everything," Max told Mary-Jane as they started to walk.

Boyfriend, the word struck a painful chord in MJ, she tried hard not to wince with it. She had only so recently lost Peter, of course he'd been beaten and battered in the past, he'd been at deaths door more then she would have liked to recall....but death...real death.. she feared it would never really settle in.
Best not to dwell on it, MJ pulled herself together and managed a smile for her guide and the canine companion.
"Sounds like heaven, lead on."

(Picking up in a new thread after Max showed MJ around.)
