i_crackjokes [Over The Rainbow and Back Again - Open]
ooc: In typical life fashion my copy of Wizard And Glass has gone AWOL -- there is sad empty place on my bookshelf where it belongs - so I'm not 100% sure if the newspaper they find in Kansas in that story calls the super-flu Captain Trips or not. If it doesn't' … well … it did this time *twists canon to make it more to her liking* . Oh, hi by the way, my name is Kelly, I play Eddie, and I'm new :D
He was pretty sure he wasn't dreaming. For one thing, when he dreamed he dreamed of New York. Or one of the many variations of it. But standing here on the corner and looking around, well this didn't look like New York. Still, he could be dreaming ..
"Wonderful, fan-fucking-tastic."
It did occur to Eddie that standing on the corner talking to himself wasn't exactly making a case for his other option. That is to say the option behind door (because it always came back to doors didn't it?) number two. That it was all real, and somehow, he had slipped away from the others. Gone on to one of the other worlds.
So the question was. .. what world was he in? And when in this world was he in? So far things looked like .. well not exactly like his home turf of New Yawk City, in the year of nineteen-eighty-seven, for one thing he didn't know half of these buildings. Yet the place was too .. alive to be part of Roland's world. Things didn't look like they where breaking down here, and hell he could see some people walking down the other side of the street.
Which meant he was decidedly was not in the Kansas he had jut been in. That place had been permanent population zero every carried off by something the local paper -- or what was left of it -- had labeled; 'Captain Trips'. So, not in Kansas. Not in Mid-World. So where?
"Well that's the million dollar question isn't it?"
He looked up; "Buildings Buildings everywhere, and not a fucking sign saying; 'Welcome To ….' To see. Someone needs to let the tourist board know that weary travelers like to know where the hell they are." Not panicked not yet, Eddie was just pissed off.
While looking upwards at the buildings that towered (hah) above him he noticed something. Something that made his stomach do a little flip flop. The clouds. The clouds now moved in a rather … cloud like way. Not flowing straight and true along the Beam. For the first time since he had lost the others, Eddie Dean began to feel like maybe, just maybe, he was up that fabled shit creek sans paddle.

Patroling. This was fun. Normal. Well, seminormal. But Kyle was glad to be doing it. After a day sitting cramped at his desk with just a lightboard and pencil for company, flying through the sky was just was he needed.
Or. Floating even. On his back. And maybe not completely patroling. Kyle called it patroling so it wasn't like he was completely using the ring for his own benefit. So what if while he was floating on his back he couldn't exactly see anything on the streets down below, and therefore could not really be patroling.
The floating on this back, though, soon became a not so good idea when he collided with a building and was forced to turn around so that he could actually watch where he was going. It was then that he noticed the man below him on the streets and looking up. He looked kind of lost.
Huh. Must have been a new arrival. Kyle floated downward ready to do the whole superhero thing.
Eddie was aware that he must look like a tourist, standing around gawking upwards, but he had other more pressing things on his mind. Like the fact that while standing there looking upwards he saw a person. A person who had started floating down towards him.
Not cool. Not cool at all.
There was a limit to even the weirdness that Eddie could take, he shifted his hand so that it hung over the but of Roland’s gun. Better safe than sorry, this could be another "leftover" from his old friends in North Central Positronics.. They had made a giant bear, maybe they could make flying people too.

Kyle couldn't really judge from the look on the man's face, whether he was scaring him or not. He wasn't aiming to scare him, really.
"Hey!" Kyle floated down slowly, in his most innocent yet heroic pose that he coud muster. He was harmless! The green uniform meant nothing. "Hey, do you need some help?"
It talked, and it talked in English, so that was good. But he was still floating, or flying and that was just .. weird. His clothing was a little … odd. But than Eddie figured he wasn't one to make cracks about peoples clothes, he looked like he had just wandered out of a Western. Which he supposed in a way he had.
Still, the odd choice of clothing confirmed it; this was not Eddie's when. Possibly not his where either.
"Hey, do you need some help?"
Most pressing questions first;
"Well I could use a hand, you mind telling a fella what year this is? And where this is? What barony?" And than as an after thought, because this place was really built up; "What city?" Despite time in the other world, Eddie was still a ask questions first, shoot later kind of guy.

Kyle made a face. "Barony?" Was the guy from the fourteen hundreds or something?
Still, Kyle could understand the confusion on the other man's part. It sounded like he'd just arrived in The City, and he remembered very well what it'd felt like. He just hoped the guy wasn't too shocked to he learned that it was, "2005. And um, you're in The City. Just got here I guess?"
Kyle touched down, and the green glow surrounding him faded a bit. It seemed like it was safe enough to talk to the man face to face. Besides, Superman was always talking about how heroes were supposed to be accessible.
"Oh fuck me." Said very quietly under his breath as he raised a hand to touch at his head. "2005 … oh shit." Okay, this shouldn't be that bad, but damn it, he was use to being the guy from the future. Because 1987 was the future to 1967 and 1977 and …
"2005." He felt kind of lightheaded. "So, people fly in 2005 .. great. Miss out on a decade or two and bam, people are flying. You got flying cars too?" Might as well ask, you never knew. "And talking trains? Got to say, a little sick of talking trains …"
From: [info]i_imagine Date: 03/08/2006 15:51:44
A decade or two? Try a century or so. If the guy was asking about baronys and whatnot. But then... he knew what a car was. Maybe that did mean he was only a decade away.
"Never heard of a talking train..." Kyle finally said, taking stock of the man. He looked him up and down. "And, our cars don't fly, and uh... the flying is sorta specialised. Where're you from?"
"Specialized?" Eddie was not relaxed, he was eyeing the other man and trying to stay at least an arms length away from him. Nothing was going to happen to Eddie Dean before he got back to his wife, no way, no how. "From New York, Eddie Dean of New York … this isn't New York." A statement of a fact, as a born and bred New Yorker Eddie liked to feel that he'd know the city anywhere, and this was not the city.
Or at least every instinct he said, said this was not his city. But if it was 2005, well of course it wasn't his city.

"Part of it's New York," Kyle countered, and pointed far over to his right where, at least for now, the Empire State Building could be seen. Who knew where it would be later, or if it would even exist. "I'm from New York too, I got pulled out of it... huh, I guess it's been a few months now."
He looked back to Eddie, almost wishing he'd met the guy when he wasn't patroling. The whole getting to know you thing was so much easier when you didn't have to say, "I'm, uh, The Green Lantern."
Kyle nearly cringed. Definitely not the hero introduction he'd ever made.
ooc: Re-post! Must. Learn. To. Not. Blindly. Copy. And. Paste.
Oh hey, there was the Empire State Building. Wow, Eddie might have to get his eyes checked because he totally hadn't seen that. And he was a guy who had dreams about tall towering buildings, he tended to notice them when they where around.
"You got pulled? You mean like drawn? Through a door?" Oh, Eddie could relate to that and this guy was from New York, which made sense because he was from New York, and Jake was from New York and Susannah was from New York and …
"I'm, uh, The Green Lantern."
....
Well as far as names went, it sure beat 'The Prisoner' although Susannah still won with her 'Lady Of Shadows' moniker.
"The Green what now? There a Black Lantern? Orange Lantern?"
You'll have to forgive Eddie. He was never that into comics.
From: [info]i_imagine Date: 03/12/2006 15:15:42
"Nah, not through a door... more like. I woke up and here I was. I knew something was off soon as I left the apartment." Kyle shrugged. Maybe he was missing out. Maybe everyone else had gotten pulled in through a door and he'd missed it in order to sleep.
Whether he had or not though, it didn't really matter. They were all here now.
"The Green what now? There a Black Lantern? Orange Lantern?"
Kyle wondered for a moment, if Superman and Batman ever had to deal with this.
"The Green Lantern. And no, and no. There aren't any other colors." Did Green Lanterns not exist in this guy's world? "I'm Earth's Lantern."
Well Eddie hadn't been drawn here through a door, he had just wandered off to take a piss. However, despite Mamma Dean's many failings as a mother, she had raised her boys not to talk about their business in front of strangers. Or in mixed company. So Eddie wasn't going to share that part of his arriving here story, he was just going to nod.
"The Green Lantern. And no, and no. There aren't any other colors." Did Green Lanterns not exist in this guy's world? "I'm Earth's Lantern."
If Eddie had come for a little further into the future of his version of earth, there would be a Reservoir Dogs joke here. As it was, he just filed that way for future reference, there was no other color lanterns.
Really, this guy was speaking English but Eddie was not understanding a word.
"The Earth's Lantern. And that means?"
He wished Roland was here. Roland would probably know what this guy was talking about, he know all that stuff about the beams, and the guardians.
