i_jest Brilliant Discoveries (Delirium)
The city was fantastic. It was new, and strange, and it was never the same.
Jack really liked that it was never the same. It sort of fit his brain. It fit him. Ever changing. Never normal. Even if appearances said otherwise.
Yes.
The City was a good place to be.
Plus, it left special little computery presents on your doorstep. Fantastic!
He was finding it a delicious time, just wandering around and seeing what kind of people were here. There were plenty of different sorts. Luckily though, he didn't run into that big hairy beast female. He was pretty sure he'd missed that date, and maybe a little unintentionally. He'd really forgotten when it was supposed to be, and by the time he'd decided to try to think of an excuse not to go, the day surely had passed.
But now, now was for the now, and now he was playing in a park. He'd already scared all the little children away. His laughter was too much for some. The swings were his! And he was abusing that privelage.

Delirium was lost.
Which was to say, she was exactly where she wanted to be. The City was very comfortable, either having an inherent knowledge of its changing ways or she simply didn't care.
Currently she was practicing backwards hopscotch. She watched her shadow flop about on the ground in front of her which was currently shaped like a block of randomly assorted squares in different colors but her feet never hit them.
It was a very difficult game of hopscotch with not much hopscotching.
A good block from the park she promptly stopped. She felt him. Delirium knew her creature well and with her interest perked righted herself forward and skipped the last block.
She approached him at the swings, her body swinging backward and forward in time with him. She stopped midway and checked her bellybutton. It never liked to stay in place and lifting up her shirt halfway she poked it where it squirmed at her ribcage. She pulled it over to her belly before resuming her skip to the laughing man.
"yOU dYEd tHE hAIr. iT is vERy sAD. Sad, sAd SaD."
Delirium sighed.
"i LIke yOUr sWIng, mR. MaN."
And she smiled.

Jack tilted his head at her. Grinned at her. "I had to. It was too green. People recognize it."
He flipped his hair with one hand. "Besides, I think I'm very sexy with black hair. It's much more flattering than the green."
With a toe, he nudged the other swing. "How about you share?"
She was lovely. Very. Bizarre and abnormal, just the way he liked them. "Don't be sad, okay? It's just dye."

Del didn't take the swing but walked to the other side. She crouched down and picked up her shadow, flopping it in the air until it formed a step-stool shape. Taking two steps she was eye level with Jack.
She leaned in very slowly and puckering her lips she kissed him loudly on the temple.

Jack's foot dragged on the ground through the dirt until he stopped. He looked up at her.
"Wassat for?"

"i thINk yOU aRe mY fAVoritE."
Delirium shrugged. The Joker was to Delirium as the Corinthian was to Dream. Not everything in the world was pretty and nic--
"lOOk! i mADe buTTerfLIES!"
Delirium pointed at the two fluttering, multicolored creatures.

Jack grinned big at that. He liked being the favorite. Even if he didn't exactly understand.
And his smile grew even more (if it were possible) when she pointed out the butterflies.
"I like those. They're the best ones I've ever seen!"
He tilted his head. "What's your name?"

Delirium blushed. Besides maybe her eldest sister, none of her siblings seemed to appreciate her creations as much.
"deeelllIIRiumm."

"Delirium?" He nodded. It was fitting. "Delirium." Jack repeated. Very nice.
"Well, Delly Dear, I'm glad to meetcha. Swing with me, please? I think it would be oh so much better if you would."
He looked at the sky. "I like it here."

Delirium hopped down from her shadow and continued hopping on both feet toward the swing until she plopped into it.
"i lIKe iT hERe, tOO."

"You know what I'm gonna do, Delly?" Jack nodded to himself. "I'm gonna find you something pretty. I don't care if I've gotta steal it or make it or kill somebody for it, but I'll get it for you. I don't know what it is yet, but I'll know when I see it."
He looked at her. "Do you want to come to my house sometime and play? You could bring the butterflies. And, well. Whatever else."
Jack was quickly growing a crush on the strange girl. He started swinging again, slowly.
"I'm glad I got stuck here."

She stared at him with two very wide mismatched eyes.

"Sure." He said, without thinking. After a moment, he added. "You'll have to teach me. But I'll play. Or is it the one where you just stare at something until the right word exists? Cause I know that one."
Yep. "I play that one a lot."
Jack swung harder, causing himself to go higher. Maybe he could touch the stars this time.
"I had hyenas once. They're not here."

Del's head moved back and forth, watching him swing as one might watch a tennis match.

"Bud and Lou." He nodded once. "From Abbot and Costello."
Jack pulled his feet up so that he was haphazardly swinging in multiple directions. "I fed them a lot of things. Sometimes people. Yeah. I miss those puppies."

Delirium was very impressed with Jack's swinging skills.

"I'm fond of Jujubes myself." He couldn't think of when he saw that movie the last time, but it must have been a really long time ago, as he couldn't really remember a lot of it.
"It's better to make your own movies. Then you can watch what you want to, and not what other people like to see."
Jack used a foot to push off a metal pole. He swung sideways and almost ran into her, but missed. Only barely.
"I like movies with blood." There was a moment of thought. "And peacocks."

"I'd love to have a tea party with you!" His eyes lit up, his feet planeted themselves in the dirt.
"I have to get a set! A tea set! A special Delly Dear tea set! Complete with butterflies!"
Jack stood up.
"You can find me can't you?" It wasn't really a question. "Find me in ... four days. Four and four fifths days. We'll have a tea party then! I have to get a special tea set!"
Jack danced a little where he was. "Oh boy."

"oKAY!" Little Delly squealed and clapped her hands.
Bouncing to her feet, she wore a crooked slightly squiggly shaped smile. "i CAn fINd yOu EVen wHEre yOU slEEpss."
She bowed neatly in a curtsy. At that exact same moment she gasped, going wide eyed and looking horribly confused...
...Before she popped into a school of a thousand, tiny multi colored fish, each chiming in its own song.

"Bye Delly my Dear! I will see you soon!"
Jack turned and skipped out of the park, only looking back once at the strange wonderful fish.
