One of the greatest things about children was, as Nolan had found out, accommodating both children’s interests – without any bloodshed over who got his or her grubby hands on the Playstation Portable. After another one of those lovely arguments, Nolan had decided to hell with it, and announced to Sophie and Bo that they were going outside, now, and enjoy the weather. Which had been met with more objections, something about how terribly ‘uncool’ he was, and how all other kids could use TV and play Playstation however long they wanted, but threatening to sell either of those was enough to more or less get both of the kids to agree.
Still, while Bo hadn’t given up protesting that by clinging to Nolan’s pants leg, the three of them had nonetheless managed their way just out the door, when Nolan heard an unfamiliar voice refer to him. "Huh?" Nolan looked up with a slight deer in the headlights expression, not necessarily expecting anyone around, and less so when he had an eight year old currently standing on his toes, arms wrapped around his leg and was fervently trying not to trip and smother the kid. In short, he really wasn’t planning on meeting his neighbors for the first time when he was far from at his best. Which did leave him wondering what, exactly, would have been his best, and he shook his head with a sigh – until he realized, again, that someone had been talking to him.
Running a hand through his unnecessarily messy hair, Nolan then nodded and managed a smile. "Yeah, that would be me," he replied, and Sophie didn’t resist chirping in a smug "Live and in color!", earning her a half-hearted glare, before Nolan simply shook his head at her and returned his attention to the other man. "I’ve been waiting forever now from the letter from the lottery to show up that I’m settled for life, you don’t happen to have found one, do you?"
