Who: Duncan and Nysa
Where: Random hallway in Tretal Castle
When: Late Morning
Nysa had managed to wake up to a full minute of bliss. The warm morning sun had broken through the curtain and onto her face until she finally opened her eyes and greeted the day. A smile crept to her face as the feeling in her body returned, along with the sensation of Emilia still curled beside her. She lay still, listening to the quiet in the room disturbed by the soft sound of Emilia's breathing. In all her life Nysa could not recall waking up to such a perfect feeling -- as though everything was right in this world. But it wasn't. The minute passed and as it did all the reality that Nysa had tried so hard to push out the night before came flooding back in to her mind. What was she doing here? How could she be so weak? She looked down to Emilia's face. The other woman looked so serene lying next to her, still asleep. She wished she could return to doing the same. Watching her, Nysa realized that she couldn't stay to face Emilia once she woke. What was she supposed to say to her, the wife of her brother? Then a thought hit her. Perhaps Emilia didn't even remember the night before. There was no telling what the after effects of the wine might be. Should Emilia wake, with no remembrance of the previous day, how was Nysa supposed to explain being in her bed? With the slowest and most careful movements that Nysa had ever made, she scooted herself away from Emilia and out of the bed. Quietly, terrified all the while that she might wake the other woman, Nysa went about the room gathering her dress and corset. She threw on her dress, not wanting to deal with putting on her corset for the escape. With quickly paced steps, Nysa skittered her way out of Emilia's chamber. Now the second test -- somehow managing to make it to her own room without being seen by anyone else. It wasn't a far distance, but in her current state, Nysa felt like it was a terrible journey. Her heart dropped at every creak or thump, sure that someone was about to turn a corner and see her running about half-dressed, corset in hand. By the grace of the Creator, Nysa made it finally to her room. It took a few hours for Nysa to gain composure and convince herself that it was safe to go back out. Even as she shut the door behind her, she had second thoughts about that. How was she to go about her day now? Nysa desperately hoped to avoid both Emilia and Duncan, but would the behavior not look suspicious to those that knew her. She wasn't sure where to go or what to do, but staying in one place was not an option. Without destination, Nysa chose a direction and began walking. Truthfully, she must have looked foolish to the servants in the castle. She paced the hallways, terrified of heading out toward the garden, making a circle around the entire castle; once Nysa even doubled back in haste when she spotted Emilia heading toward her from a distance. She had no idea if the woman even noticed. It was about to be her fourth consecutive lap when she turned a corner blindly, bumping into an unseen person. "Oh my, dreadfully sorry..." Nysa muttered her words mindlessly as she looked up to see who she had almost knocked over. Duncan. Her heart stopped and her blood literally felt as though it were running ice cold. "Brother of mine! What are you doing getting caught in my way?" She forced a laugh, trying desperately to pretend as though she were not guilty of anything. |
