The concept of being charitable like Cat was describing was completely foreign to Karanteg. He would pit his own (unwanted) children against each other for his amusement, and he certainly didn't give them any opportunity to stay in contact with their other parent. Not that he explicitly forbade it - like he gave a single shit about that - but he also didn't necessarily make sure they had any knowledge of where their other parent was, or even if they had access to the birds. And yet there was no way for Karanteg to know what Cat was thinking...and perhaps for the best. Losing access to his imaginary children might be one of the few things keeping Karanteg at least within visual sight of the line he enjoyed crossing.
Grimm was an important holding in Seordag, and so Karanteg thought that it was important the next lord should be able to control it well. And if that was Kelvin, then it was what it was. Karanteg had just never imagined he would have to teach the child necessary skills himself. He just hoped that Cat didn't expect him to teach Kelvin much more than jousting. Because he couldn't. Valdemar might, but the man was too far away to be of any use right now. "Kelvin will do well to learn sooner rather than later; Grimm is significant in holding the territory against the druids," Karanteg commented. Not that anybody really had excuse to be concerned about the druids in a very long time, but it was the sort of thing they had always fought against and forgotten why exactly. They were heathens or...cannibals or...something, right? Following Cat's cue, Karanteg straightened his collar and put on a smile. He was probably sincerely excited to be here, what with the luxuries available to him here. "Here's to the next year spent with you, love."
