WHO: Ennis Taggart and Cody Nordstrom
WHAT: Reunion, prison break talk.
WHEN: Backdated to the 24th of January, the day after the Sling got back
WHERE: Whiskey Sour
RATING: Some swearing, nothing big. Cutie pies.
Tag was unaware of basically all the madness that happened while the Sling got ready for its new assignment and left. He learned it all with a sense of horror, because being haunted and in a jail break was bad, but at least everyone came out of it in one piece. Traumatized, but one piece. He saw Kirby first when she met him when they docked, but Tag was reluctant to go back to the Sling. He needed a break from it. Unless Euphie messaged him with an emergency, he was going to hang out in Ganymede or one of the other ships. Which naturally brought him immediately to the Whiskey Sour and Cody. He knew about Liam but also that they took some hard hits, and he wanted to check on his BFF. Tag knew the Sour almost as well as the Sling, so he easily swept his way in and went to Cody's room. "Heyyyyyyy, buddy, you around?" Tag did look a little worse for wear. There were circles under his eyes. He hadn't slept much in days. His shoulders were hunched and he was covered in at least one layer too many as a type of comforting technique. He learned it on Callisto, when things got tense and especially cold. Between Liam and helping Jim out with the interim captaincy, Cody wasn’t looking much better than Tag. He hadn’t realized how much Alex had done to keep the ship in shape, but it wasn’t like he was regretting any of it. This was as close as he’d ever been to captaining his own ship, and he didn’t have a single bad things to say on the whole matter. He’d been lounging around, about to doze off, but he immediately perked up at the sight of his friend. If he’d known that the Singapore Sling was back, he would have gone to see him earlier. It was hard keeping up with everything happening lately, but Tag did not look good. “Woah hey,” He floated to Tag’s side and placed one hand on each shoulder, staring at him with concern, “You don’t good, dude. Did you catch something on Pluto?” It wasn’t out of the question, Pluto was a terrifying place. "I don't look good? You don't look good." Cody and Tag connected in so many ways from day one. They both wanted to be pilots. They both wanted to be captains some day. They shared the exact same birthday. It was easy to be around Cody. Between Kirby crying hysterically on him the day before and this, he was starting to wonder if Pluto had been much worse. Nope. Still was worse. He couldn't sleep without hearing the static and feeling something cold on his hand. But he wasn't going to think about that. "I heard about Liam, dude, and Alex. I feel bad being like oh go Whiskey Sour, you got the warrant, good for you guys." Because he didn't know at the time that it was actually a giant disaster. He wasn't supposed to tell people anything about Pluto until Jadzia said something, so he just shrugged. "Prisons suck." “Nah,” Cody grinned brightly, “It’s all good. Getting the warrant, I mean. Not your face, that still looks terrible. Seriously bud, you need a prescription for some beauty sleep.” There was something Tag wasn’t telling him, but if he wasn’t ready then Cody wouldn’t press for it. Instead he wrestled the other pilot towards the bed and all but sat on him to get him to relax. “If they were awesome, we wouldn’t send our most wanted there. I definitely don’t envy you.” Tag laughed but didn't struggle and willingly went on the bed. He swiped at Cody playfully. "Are you calling me ugly, bro? After I just came back from prison?" He flopped back comfortably on the bed and sighed, peering at Cody curiously. "It's not all good, what are you even saying. Dude lost an eye. Oh my god did you see it." He went up on his elbows and winced. "Sorry, terrible question." “Dude, I’m saying that they probably sent you to prison for being so ugly,” He flopped on his side next to Tag and pinched his cheeks with both hands. “Wait, the eye or the…. socket?” Cody winced at his wording, he’d seen neither actually, “Nevermind. Forget I said that.” He laughed again and whacked Cody's hands away. "Gross, I probably shouldn't have asked. I'm going to have to find out how not to make a face when I see him next." Tag was incapable of controlling his expressions, his emotions laid out there bare for most people to see. He was also nervous about Liam in general. A Killjoy and Kirby's ex. Yup. Trouble. He looked up at the ceiling. "So like, our ship is legit haunted, Cody. Legit. The engines died and it locked us inside, and lights went out and there was static on the intercom." He shuddered. Explaining it couldn't really explain how horrific it was. "I can't deal. Euphie won't do an exorcism." “An exorcism?” Cody looked at him, wide eyed as he watched Tag carefully, “Isn’t that kind of extreme? Maybe you could try to make friends first.” If he’d learned anything from watching 10s horror flicks with his mother is that most ghosts were just horribly misunderstood. Tag scrunched his face up. "This was not a friendly ghost, dude. It shut down our ship and was like … freaking us all out." Everyone did seem shaken at first, even if they were much better than he was at pretending nothing happened. He ran fingers through his hair. "I keep wondering if it's the Slingers that died, you know? Who else would be haunting it? But if so why be mean to the crew." He blinked over at Cody. "I appreciate you not judging me for believing in ghosts right now." “There’s no proof that they don’t exist,” Cody shrugged, “But that sounds really heavy, wasn’t that incident super gruesome? If it’s true, maybe they really are just misunderstood. Maybe they can’t pass on or something. Are you okay, though?” Tag believed in ghosts. He vaguely believed in them when he came onto the ship, since he was always a little creeped out. Now he couldn't really figure out any other explanation. He couldn't deny it. What he felt was real. He shivered just thinking about it and rubbed a hand to his eyes. "No, man. No I'm not. I can't explain what it felt like, only that the prison break somehow wasn't at all as scary. Like I would take a prison break over more ghosts, it's fucked up, but it's true." And kind of shameful, since the prison break led to a lot more problems, but in sheer terror, the ghosts won. “Dude,” Cody reached over and rubbed Tag’s arms soothingly, “If I were there I probably would have been scared, too. I mean, at least we kind of have a plan for dealing with the prisoners right? There’s almost nothing about how to deal with ghosts out there. Have you been getting enough sleep?” He would stand guard over Tag as he slept if that’s what it took. "It's weird like … I don't know. We're just not talking about it? I know people experienced it, outside of Rhia who came in, but the most of us …." Tag was just frustrated about that, because it made him feel crazier. Only Euphie really talked about it at all with him. Maybe he was the only one who actually cared and they thought it was hilarious. He sighed and tugged Cody down for snuggles, because he needed them, and it was nice to keep connected to the people who mattered. The alive ones. He got to sleep in Kirby's bed before, and now he was with Cody. Like a bed jumper. "No sleep, not really. I feel like I'm there again when it's dark." Cody frowned, made a note to bring it up with the Sling’s engineers if he got a chance. Maybe even HQ, though they had a lot to deal with these days. He let himself get dragged into bed with Tag and ran his fingers soothingly over his scalp. “Shhh, don’t think about it. Just sleep, you’re safe here.” Tag smiled and leaned into him. For a kid who had no friends or family before the RAC, he tied himself to the people who let him with fierce tenacity. Like Cody, his birthday brother, practically his twin maybe, nicer to him in the first five minutes they met than his brothers had been his entire life. "Love you, Cody," he murmured, and he meant it. He was safe. For now. |
