Not only did the ship get ruined during the Bounty, well not quite ruined but it was damaged and it had pissed Alloy off, some of their food needed replacing the next time that they made Port. Then, somehow Alloy had managed to land food duty, along with Lea. If Alloy had had her way she would still be onboard double checking The Mama again. Perhaps she was being obsessive about it, having already been over it multiple times but as an Engineer it was her job to keep the ship running. She took it seriously. “Come on let’s get this over with so we can get back to the ship,” Alloy grumbled as she grabbed a basket to put the shopping in. She hadn’t bothered changing out of her orange jumpsuit that she wore when working on the ship, planning to take as little amount of time as possible. “Aw come on, what’s the rush?” Lea was in a great mood, grocery shopping for the ship just meant an excuse to buy snack food on the company card, “It’s not like the ship’s grounded or anything, nothing you can’t handle in an hour or two right?” Alloy humphed at that, shrugging her shoulders as she did so. Lea’s mood was annoying her, Alloy had never dealt well with overly chirpy and happy people. She knew she could try harder than she was when it came to getting along with people but her past had left her bitter and she had a lot of guilt and anger which made it harder than it might be for other people. “Perhaps but some of them do have a habit of getting into trouble. I need to make sure she’s safe,” she admitted with a shrug. “Relax,” Lea rolled her eyes and hooked her thumbs under the straps of her backpack, “No one’s gonna break the Mama. She’s not just yours, you know, we all need her to do our job.” By now, she was familiar with how engineers felt about their ships, but honestly it was all a bit dramatic. There was no way any of them would intentionally hurt their meal ticket, especially not one as beautiful as the Mama Alloy sighed, running her right hand through her hair that was down briefly from it’s typical pony tail. She wished she had a band with her to pull it back, it was starting to annoy her with how it constantly got into her face. She was half considering cutting it off into a close crop just for the ease of it. Alloy didn’t usually place any stock on her appearance but she did like her hair longish which was the only reason she hadn’t done so yet. “I know, I’m just jumpy after what happened to her during the Bounty,” she admitted with a shrug, a slightly sheepish look upon her face. “So which end of the shop do you want to start at?” she asked, changing the subject. “Snacks, definitely.” Lea replied without hesitation and wheeled the cart to the aisle with the salty snacks. The downside to never having had to live on your own was that sometimes, you didn’t know how to grocery shop efficiently. Alloy couldn’t find fault with that. “Sure,” she said with a nod before following Lea to the area where they were stacked. Not that she would have much choice since Lea seemed determined to get there. With Lea looking at the salty food, Alloy ducked further down the aisle to where the sweeter stuff was. Once there, she grabbed a few boxes of biscuits, chocolate and some other things and threw them into the trolley. “Can’t forget the chocolate,” she commented with a shrug. “Yesss,” Lea added two tubs of cheese asteroids, a few bags of chips and a box of pretzel mix into the cart, “I’m glad they sent me with someone who knows how to shop.” She rolled slowly down the aisle with Alloy, using the cart like a scooter, “What else do we need. Coffee?” It seemed like they always needed coffee. Alloy just stared at her like she was crazy when she asked if they needed of coffee. “Um how do you expect us to survive otherwise? That cigarettes alcohol, probably some fruit that can’t hurt for those idiots who like it,” she muttered. “Condoms, ice cream, cooking stuff? I don’t know what else do you think we need?” “I kinda feel like HQ won’t reimburse us for cigarettes and condoms. Alcohol though, that’s necessary for our profession, right?” Lea pushed the cart into the next aisle, hard liquor. Her eyes flitted to Alloy, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk. What do you drink?” “Screw them,” she muttered. “I’m still grabbing them though,” she shrugged. She needed them and wasn’t going to go without. “Really?” she asked surprised. “I drink a lot actually though usually at bars and stuff,” she admitted. “Was drunk not that long ago but I drink just about anything really. Not a big fan of wine but I will drink it. Cocktails, beer, cider, anything really?” she shrugged again. “What about you?” She nodded, Alloy seemed like a bar kind of person. Lea, on the other hand, didn’t drink all that often. It wasn’t that she didn’t like to, there just hasn’t been much of an occasion for it. “Hmmm,” She wheeled the card slowly down the aisle, “I don’t really know, cider at bars? Anything that’s not too alcohol-y I guess!” “I’ll just have to educate you then,” Alloy smirked at Lea as she said that as they turned the corner into another aisle. She knew her alcohol well and probably had a feel of what Lea could drink if she did get started. “Please do! It’s not like my brother will, ” Lea grinned and followed Alloy as she dumped various packaged goods into their cart. She didn’t care what anyone thought, grocery shopping was always a good bonding activity. |
