People watching was an exciting hobby since moving to New York. A variety of of customers lingered in the very bar he occupied that night. It was his fifth time occupying that place and sitting on that stool. Tucked away in the corner with his back against the wall, his mind drifted as he watched people just be. A cluster of men surrounded the counter, leaning their stools on two legs as they inched closer towards a small television screen. A football game captured their attention but their groans and cheers did not bother the group of middle-aged women to their left. They were busy talking about a hard week at work. Elijah could not help but to eavesdrop. Whether it was boredom or curiosity, or even a combination of both, he found it all to be entertaining.
So many different people, so many different stories unfolding, but none like his. He was not even like them. Superior in physical abilities, yes, but he was a fabrication created by human hands. It was a bit disgusting to him and he did not know how he felt about it. He was still new, this soil was still fresh under his feet and he poured his sorrows into a bottle of beer. More a wine drinker, he did not care for beer much, but everyone else seemed to pop open a bottle. He took another swig and tried not making a face as he swallowed. He was only halfway through the bottle but he was unable to stomach anymore of it. He started to fumble through his pockets for a tip when the door flew open and a familiar figure appeared. Then he leaned back in his seat. Perhaps the evening was not yet lost.
