Either something had happened to his hearing or she couldn't speak. His preferences ran towards the latter. A loss of one of his sensory functions was the last thing he needed right now. He'd just gotten a heartbeat back. Thankfully there was just enough light from the cheap neon sign in the bar window that he could make out the tail end of what she was saying. Okay? He had a pretty good idea of what she was asking.
"'m just great," he said, the sarcasm heavy in his tone. It wasn't aimed at her, but at the world in general. Hell, he didn't even know her and she hadn't exactly done him wrong by tapping him on the shoulder. She didn't even look like much of a threat, especially with that hat. But around here, who knew?
He glanced down at the notepad, an eyebrow arching questioningly. "Can't talk?"
