Everything felt off, and Cami couldn’t even figure out what the hell was going on, much less where she’d been or where everyone else was. at this point or anything. The last thing she could remember was the ground had starting shaking and she thought she’d been knocked out, but the truth was, was that she wasn’t totally sure if she could count on her memory. She could remember thinking about something to do with work but she wasn’t totally sure. Everything was just so wrong that she was struggling to even get a good feel. She wrapped her arms around her as she felt a chill run through her body. It wasn’t that it was cold out, it was just that she felt wrong, she felt off. Something, everything felt weird for some reason. As she looked around, as she tried to figure out what was going on she caught sight of the back of someone that she actually knew, someone who was actually a friend. “Zane?” She called as she picked up her pace heading towards him. “Zane!” She called again as she felt more sure that it was indeed him. ~~~ He'd come to a little earlier, seeing the others who had died throughout what he realized had been a pretty crappy day for everyone in town. He’d managed to piece together they’d all died, not just him, and that none of their deaths had exactly been “dying while sleeping” friendly or anything like that. He didn’t really know Jemma all that well, so he wasn’t sure just who else had died. But it was good to hear a voice he recognized. He turned around and saw Cami coming towards him. “Oh, it’s good to see you,” he said. When she got close enough he reached forward to clap a hand on her shoulder. Partly it was to make sure she was really there, that this wasn’t a weird vision like...whatever it was he had seen earlier. But part of it was because he needed to be close to someone after all of this. “I’m glad you’re here. I’m glad you’re not...you know, still dead.” ~~~ Screwing that probably down right hugging wasn’t the most normal reaction, she didn’t care, the second his hand hit her shoulder she reached out and just outright hugged Zane. She needed to feel that he was real too, and just have that moment of comfort. Cami wasn’t nearly as aware as Zane was to what had happened or the whole fact that they had died. That was still something she wasn’t completely aware of or totally understood. “Still dead?” Cami said after a moment. It took her a second to figure out that that is what he’d said. Pulling back away from him slightly so she could see his face, her face went from shocked, to confused, to mildly understanding and back to a confused/shocked look. “What do you mean still dead?” So, she was a little slow on it at the moment. She might be from a world things like this have happened before or that someone tried to steal her body for someone else… but that didn’t mean it was easy to accept. ~~~ He hated to admit it, but it felt really good to hug her. He’d have done that first off but he wasn’t sure she’d want him to. And it ended too soon for him. There’s been something nice in actual contact with someone else instead of just on the boards. “A bunch of us died. Different ways, different places. But a bunch of us died and we all got brought back to Lawrence,” he said. “I got stabbed in the back in the graveyard, Jemma died at the medical center...some serious crap went down and a bunch of us died. I don’t know how long we’ve been dead or what, but…” ~~~ Clasping her hands over her face she let her eyes squeeze shut. Cami knew she wouldn’t wake up or anything as lucky as that was. She finally let her hands drop and her eyes shown with the markings of possible tears. “So, we died and now what? We’re just brought back to life? Or…” She said as she took a step closer to Zane and put her arm around him out of pure desire not to be alone and partly because she actually wasn’t sure if she was going to fall over or not. Her eyes looked away from him and to their surroundings. “Wait, your back, it’s not still stabbed or anything is it?” She said as she let go of him again quickly and moved to look at his back. “Because last thing I remember is shaking and that’s about it.” Cami said. “And my bones don’t feel broken or anything. Unless we are some freaked out weird kind of ghost…” ~~ “I think we’re brought back 100% healed,” he said as she let go of him again. “People who had buildings collapse on them were okay. That’s what happened to Jemma and she was fine enough to get on the boards and talk to those of us who could see each other earlier. And people are up and moving and appear fine.” He reached over for her hand. “Next thing we need to find out is whether we’re actually back in Lawrence Lawrence or somewhere else. I’m not the type that usually believes in Heaven or Hell or all of that, but with all the crap that’s gone on all since I got here the first time I’m not sure what’s possible and what’s not. Don’t let go, okay?” ~~~ Nodding she was still fussing when he took her hand. She didn’t pull away, all she did was move her fingers so she could lace with his, that seemed to be a stronger grip and frankly right now she needed it. “Wait, where is she? Where is everyone else? I mean those of us that died and aren’t so...dead anymore.” Cami said her voice with hints to shaking, or maybe that was because it was so cold. “Huh the genius scientist telling the girl who hangs out with original vampires to worry about heaven and hell.” She said with a really badly timed weird joke. “Sorry.” She said as she squeezed his hand. “I wont. You don’t either though okay, because if this is something else… I’d kinda rather not lose you.” ~~ “I don’t know. I don’t see anyone else yet, but I’m not really in the mood to look,” he said. “I know she’s alive though. We can get the hell out of this graveyard and then worry about finding other people once we figure out if this is actually Lawrence or not.” He grinned at that. “You know, under normal circumstances that’d be a decent joke. And I know scientists who believe in Heaven and Hell. We actually had a church in Eureka that people attended. One day I’ll have to tell you the story I heard about what happened in the original timeline where someone thought the end times were coming.” He gripped her hand tightly. “Don’t want to lose you either,” he said as he began leading them between tombstones. The sooner he got out of the place where he died and the sooner he knew whether they were actually back in Lawrence or this was some higher power playing a massively dickish joke on them the better. He wanted as many facts at hand as he could get so decisions could start being made. ~~ “And here I thought at one point leaving Lawrence wouldn’t be such a bad thing and now I actually want it to be Lawrence.” Cami commented as she looked at the darkness of the graveyard. She was struggling with how cold it was, but having Zane right their actually made it a lot better, or well not better but less terrifying in a small little way. “Yeah well, when we get out of this and figure out where we are, maybe I’ll come up with something better.” She told him as she shrugged. “I’m going to hold you to that, because that sounds… interesting.” She said, and it did sound interesting to her. At his comment she smiled softly as she followed him doing her best not to trip on anything. “How long have you been back… well you know, not dead anymore.” ~~~ He glanced back behind her and stopped. He was cold, kind of unnaturally so, but after literally freezing from the inside out back home he could handle it. “Hey, let’s try and warm you up,” he said, letting go of her hand long enough to shrug out of the hoodie he’d had on when he died. No big hole in the back where there should have been a knife wound, so that was a plus. He draped it over her shoulders and waited for her to slip it on. “One day you and I are going to share a bottle of alcohol and just swap stories,” he said with a grin when they grabbed hands again. “I want to hear all about living with original vampires, especially Marcel. He strikes me as cooler than the other ones. And I’ll tell you about all the times me and my fellow scientists almost ended the world with science. Deal?” ~~~ A curious look crossed her face as he stopped. When his hand dropped she felt a small fear until he took of his hoodie, she was going to object but Cami knew that he wasn’t going to listen to her no matter what she said or if she protested. She did give him a worried look before slipping it over her head and giving him a soft smile. “Hey, thanks.” She told him softly. Once their hands were clasped again she felt a little bit more comfortable again. “Are you kidding me, we might need two bottles.” Cami told him with a small shrug and laughed at the comment about Marcel being the cooler of them. “You know he’d love to hear that. Sometimes I think you and he have similar egos.” She teased. Cami really adored Marcel, trusted him completely so it was a complement to Zane comparing the two of them. “You know, this is going to make me sound horrible, but Zane, neither of us need to die next time to catch up.” Cami told him. “But, if you’re going to be the person post death I see, I could do worse.” ~~ “I think that’s why I like him so much,” he said as they started moving again. “People with similar egos tend to either get along great or hate each other instantly. Marcel’s not the type to indiscriminately hate people so I figure if he’s cool and he’s cool with me then I’m pretty lucky. And besides, he likes you so he’s got great taste .” He flashed her a grin at that. The grin dimmed at her next comment. “Yeah, I know. I just kind of pulled away from everyone. It was harder adjusting to Jo not being here and having actually lived through everything I’d just watched before,” he said. “Losing Myka and Lagertha didn’t help. But I promise, since we’re getting this second chance, I’m not pushing my friends away again. And if I start doing it? Kick my ass, okay?” ~~ Rolling her eyes she laughed. Cami didn’t bother a comment about herself. “He’s a good guy, but not one of the Originals, just strangely part of their family.” Cami didn’t mention Klaus partly because she did have a moment to wonder if he was okay, or if he cared that she was gone, or well she was being stupid about it and forced herself not to think about it anymore. “Yeah, he’s usually a little bit more open.” As long as they didn’t do anything to piss him off that was. “Believe it or not, I actually missed you.” Cami told him trying to get him to have a small smile again. “But I get it, it’s… it’s not easy dealing with everything.” Cami told him. “And losing people is just so hard because it’s not like we can do much about it to stop it or make sense of it, but it’s still okay to grieve their vanishing.” Pausing she smiled softly. “Don’t worry, I’ll come find you, and it’ll be worse. I’ll force you to talk about what’s bothering you.” ~~~ The grin came back, though not quite as bright, and he squeezed her hand. “Yeah, I missed you too. Just be forewarned I’m not a talky guy unless there’s booze. Or unless I’m trying to charm my way into getting something. But I might make an exception for you.” He kept leading the way out of the cemetery. He paused when he saw the spot where he got stabbed and then sped up, nearly pulling Cami along. He had to get the hell out of the cemetery because it was one thing to pop up here when he got drug to this world from Eureka, but another to pop back up after he died. Finally they got to the gates, and he opened them up, though they were already unlocked. He stopped just outside and looked at some of the damage. “Damn,” he said quietly. ~~~ “I have my ways of getting people to talk.” She played with a smirk. “And booze usually seems to be involved no matter what else is going on.” Cami admitted. That however was a more recent thing. Her life hadn’t had that much until she met Klaus and got pulled into a world that she didn’t understand at first. It reminded her of her conversation with Elijah about it for half a second. She was actually wondered how he was back home. Catching his expression as he looked where he’d been stabbed she gave a soft look to him, catching her balance as they kept going. As they made it out of the cemetery she paused with him looking over all the damage. She reached her other hand around to his that she was already holding. “Come on, let’s see what we can find out, or see if we can find anyone else.” ~~~ He nodded and gripped her hand tighter as they turned and walked towards the town. He slowed his pace once they got past the cemetery. It seemed once it was out of sight he was breathing easier. There were people out, and a few of them glanced in their direction as they walked. He didn’t recognize anyone, but then he’d kind of shut himself off from most of the town lately. “You see anyone you recognize?” he asked, leaning towards her. He hoped she saw someone, or at least if she felt comfortable going up and just asking someone some questions that would probably sound really weird. Though...this was Lawrence, or at least he hoped it was. They should be used to weird by now. ~~~ Everyone she saw she wasn’t sure if they saw them or if she just wanted them to see her. She started to wonder if maybe no one could see them. What if they were trapped in some other world, trapped in some other situation, something that made no sense at all. She focused more on the damage she saw and the fact that she knew with Zane at least neither of them were alone, which was pretty much the most important thing to her right that moment. “No.” She answered as she stepped a little closer to him. Everything still felt uncomfortably cooled, and not right. “Let’s head to the compound. If anything, Marcel probably will have some kind of thought on all of this and I should still have some… things, and books that might be useful.” She said not really feeling comfortable asking a completely stranger, especially given locals didn’t really know about who and what a lot of them were. Although Zane and Cami were actually just human she still worried. ~~~ He nodded and stepped closer to her. He’d been through Kirk’s self-defense classes so if anything human came at them he was fairly sure he could keep them safe. Anything else...he wasn’t sure about. But he’d be damned if he was going to let anything hurt either of them if they were in some weird Purgatory type place. “Going to the compound sounds like a good plan.” He let her take over leading them at that point, keeping a careful eye. He was kind of on edge, but he slowly started to realize something. “Cami...I think they’re ignoring us because I think they think we’re just out for a walk,” he said. To test his theory he edged into the path of someone coming towards him, making it a point to bump into him. He felt solid flesh contact his shoulder, and the guys muttered something rude under his breath.”We might actually be back.” ~~~ She nodded and didn’t hesitate as she took the lead. She could get them to the compound and at the very least that was a good place to start, a safe place to start… Well if it was still standing. “I guess we just have to hope that it’s still standing.” She said at more of a mutter. As they walked she’d gotten good at just trying to get them to their destination and looking for people she knew. So far there hadn’t been any that she saw. As he said something she looked at him, and it might be true, but she wasn’t really sure if that was the case. She wasn’t sure what she’d seen but it felt like something of a higher something. “Did you see…” She didn’t even know what she’d seen or if it was real, but it felt like it was watching her, or maybe watching them? Maybe their connection was part of what brought them back, but she didn’t know. She heard the rude comment and looked at Zane before looking around again a startled and confused look on her face. ~~~ He watched her for a moment when he righted himself. He’d caught himself doing that, when he first realized he was alive again. Seeing something he wasn’t sure was there. He was just kind of catching it, in the corner of his eye, and he had no idea what it was, but it grated at him. “You seeing the edges of something, like it’s there and it’s not and you don’t quite know what it is?” he asked. “Because if you are, I saw it too.. I have no clue what it is. It’s one of those things I can’t explain and I hate stuff like that. It probably is what brought us back, though. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised.” ~~~ With her free hand she covered her eyes and flinched. That felt wrong, it felt really wrong, but she felt more… alive too. She wasn’t down right freezing anymore and she wasn’t sure what brought them back but she wouldn’t be surprised of it was. “I still think we should go to the compound, because… well just answers. Unless you have a different thought.” Cami added. She tried to smile softly as she dropped her hand. “I know.” She told him as he said he hated not being able to explain something. “Me too.” Cami admitted, and that was extremely true, she hated things she couldn’t explain. The thing was, was that she wasn’t ready to drop his hand either though because it was one of the few things in that moment that she actually understood. ~~ “Compound is probably the best place, because they might have figured some stuff out while we’ve been gone...however long we’ve been gone,” he said. “If it’s typical Seal stuff I’d guess about a week, but whatever that thing we saw doesn’t feel like typical Seal stuff, so...I don’t know. But if it’s still standing it’s at least safer there. I know Marcel would have had that place warded like nobody’s business.” He squeezed her hand as they started moving again, sticking close to her. “I’ve never liked things I can’t explain. It’s part of the reason I got into science. I mean, I know there are things. I have stories about stuff that not even science can properly explain completely. But if it can explain most of it, then I’m good. But being here...it’s not always an option.” ~~~ “Or two.” Cami said. “You know the whole weird things last for maybe two weeks thing that seemed kinda normal for a while and that got blown out of the water too.” Cami commented even though there was nothing in her voice that seemed to be confident or comfortable with any of it. “Why do you think I ended up where I am now…. Well not here in this moment but with the degree… and everything.” She said. “I wanted to understand, but you know there isn’t a good way to handle a witch's hex in normal day psychology. Even with Elijah name dropping Fraud. It just doesn’t work.” Cami half said, half muttered. “It’s almost never a real option here.” Cami agreed. As they got closer to the Compound she slowed slightly in almost fear that it wouldn’t be standing. ~~ “Gotta love the Seal,” Zane said drily with the barest hint of a smirk. “Just when we start to get used to something it tips it on us and we have to get used to something else. I hope it’s only been two weeks tops. I’m not in the mood to see if it’s been longer than that. Doubt it, though, from the state of the city.” His half smirk became a actual grin at that point. “You know, I definitely want to learn more about psychology as applied to all the weirdness here. I mean, I could be a real dick and say it’s a soft science but I knew some decent people in Eureka who were involved in the psychological and psychiatric side of things. It’s kind of cool to learn more about it. Not sure what I could tell you about in exchange, but…” He looked around as they got farther away from the center of Lawrence. “You okay?” he asked. ~~~ Cami gave a worried look at him. “Yeah, I’d rather not come back and have everyone in senior homes, well you know the people who actually age, not the vampires and things and people that don’t actually age.” Cami said thinking about it. Oddly two of the people she was closest to here, or was or used to be close to where vampires and probably would look exactly the same except perhaps some different hair styles. “You wouldn’t be the first person to say that.” Cami said shrugging. “A lot of people like to discount it until they need it.” That was something she was highly used to and she was pretty good with dealing with that problem as time went on. Frankly she just didn’t really listen to it all the time. “Yeah… Just not sure what to expect I guess.” She told him. “You?” ~~ “Oh, I don’t even want to think about it,” he said, shaking his head. “Or turn around and have there be a whole bunch of people here that we don’t recognize with one or two vampires still here. That would be weird. I mean, not that being here isn’t already weird…” “Well, I’m starting to think the eternal hard versus soft sciences debate is kind of BS,” he said. “I mean, when I’ve been inside someone else’s head in the course of a psychological exam, it gets you to think about things a little differently. Someone who can study the inner workings of the human mind deserves just as much respect as someone who can manipulate the inner workings of the human cell or an AI or whatever.” “Not sure either, but the sooner we find out the better,” he said, squeezing her hand. ~~ “Inside someone else’s head?” Cami asked deciding not to think on the other side of things because that was creepy sounding. Okay so people inside of other people’s bodies was creepy too and she’d seen that happen more than once and was not so cool with that and it was just weird. “I can’t disagree with that.” Cami said, but she was biased about the whole thing, and rightfully so. She just tended to think that their were answers even when answers seemed impossible. She glanced over again with a smile. “I guess you are right.” She said as they headed towards the compound. When they got their nothing was there, well no one was there. She called out Marcel’s name, but nothing. “It doesn’t mean anything, he might just not be here right now. If things are as bad as they look, he’s probably out helping somewhere.” Cami said as she lead them from room to room. “Um, we’ve got a lot of spare room, you’re welcome to stay here.. if you want to.” ~~~ |
