Pike shot her a grin right back, and may have watched her go. The owners might have caught him with an appreciative look on his face and, while most people would likely have blushed or been embarrassed, he just smirked and turned back to his pizza.
His mirth faded rapidly, though. One hand came up to pinch the bridge of his nose. He'd felt her out a few times during the conversation, and getting her to open up was not going to be easy. Hell, it might just be impossible. But he was going to give it a shot anyway, even if it meant drawing on memories he'd rather forget. The werewolf in Detroit...
He abruptly cut the thoughts off and tore into the pizza. He finished off the slices, guzzled the rest of the beer, and rose to his feet with only a slight wince at all that beer. He'd already paid, so he just tossed a quick smile and wave to the friendly owners and headed out. Time to make the donuts... He'd always secretly loved that little commercial.
A few hours later...
There was a bounce in Pike's step as he made his way back from the club. He'd gotten the job surprisingly easily, which made him wonder if there was something shady going on in that place, but he wasn't questioning it. It was cash, it was no questions asked, and as long as he didn't know anything questionably legal was going on he had no guilt about working there. Besides, it wasn't like he'd be there forever. He'd be taking time off for hunting, which he intended to continue once he learned more about the hostiles here.
He also felt, for lack of a better term, great. Rejuvenated, he thought the term was. He credited this strange second wind to getting the job so easily. He wasn't really sure exactly when he'd started feeling better, but hey, he wasn't questioning it. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and all that.
He made his way back to the room he was sharing with Faith, grinning like the devil. He had some kind of energy right now, that was for sure. He pulled the door closed behind him and let out a barking laugh. "Got me a job where I get to hit people and get paid for it. Life is good."
He promptly plopped down on the bed, that grin still in place. "And of course, all that energy I build up hitting people at work is gonna have to go somewhere..." The implication was there. And while he didn't realize it, so was just the slightest hint of challenge. "And I'm thinking the best use of that energy is in keeping my gorgeous roommate entertained."
Yeah, he was a veritable energizer bunny all of a sudden.
