Pike chuckled ruefully at her words. "Yeah, so am I." He ran one hand through his hair, glancing down at his pizza. "Problem is, you don't have anybody to double-check your work..." He shrugged helplessly. "Mistakes happen. Your interpretation of a clue is wrong, or you overlook something, or you just get caught up in your emotions, and that thing you thought was evil? Wasn't."
He considered his next words very carefully. "Yeah, sometimes. Some people just aren't good for each other. True facts." He glanced up at her before focusing on his pizza. "Other times you find somebody you gel with. It works. Not gonna say it's easy, or the most common thing in the world, but hey."
He snorted at her comment about his bike. "You aren't the only one wishing that, believe me. I've had her since the beginning." She'd been Benny's, a real beauty. Pike took good care of her, and in return she got him where he needed to go and got him out of trouble.
"Oh, I'm coming back," he tossed a wink back at her. "Couldn't keep me away." He grinned at her. "After all, I gotta make up for not being able to drag my bike here, don't I?"
