5:00 am Few who knew Regina could probably tell how unsettled she was. The masks she wore and the walls that were almost always in place revealed nothing. In fact, Rose and Robin were probably the only two who could tell that something was weighing down on her. Perhaps even Snow but Regina wasn’t too sure her stepdaughter was as cognizant of such matters. Or at least not nearly as cognizant as the one who had been in Lawrence when she first arrived all those months ago. With the Seal’s latest activity everyone had questions that they needed answered. Most especially those who had only just arrived in Lawrence. Hell, she too had questions that needed to be answered. But despite all her efforts there were no answers to be found. And that was frustrating the former queen to no end. Loki had left a sizable library behind and since he had been returned to his world by the Seal she had taken to using it. Something she wouldn’t have done had he still been around. They’d had an unwritten agreement to avoid each other as much as possible. He was close with Emma Swan and at the time she was not. It had been Ana that initially convinced her to utilize the protection of the library. And how right she had been. It held a wealth of knowledge and was perfect for hosting their magic meetings. If only the wealth of knowledge it held could actually help them with their current problems. Regina surely would be getting more sleep. Well, as much sleep as a mother with a newborn child, a five year old and a teenager could possibly get. Pressing a kiss to her son’s head she turned on his mobile and set it to play his favorite lullaby on a loop for an hour. Though she adored every moment that she spent with her and Greg’s son, Regina, also knew that she was going to be no help to anyone soon. Her lack of sleep was beginning to really add to everything weighing down on her. Regina’s body was in desperate need of more than 4 hours of broken sleep. With one last glance at her slumbering son she walked out of the nursery and the few steps down the hall to her own. As she entered into her room she noticed that Robin was sleeping with a look of pure contentment on his face. Regina smiled and then quietly and gently slipped into their bed and pulled his arm back around her. Within moments she had drifted off to sleep with that same look of contentment gracing her features. 6:00 am Almost as if a bucket of ice water had been dropped on her, Regina, awoke dislodging herself from Robin’s arms and sitting up. Thankfully Robin wasn’t too affected by how quickly she had sat up. It didn’t take much for her to get him to go back to sleep for a few more hours. Pushing the covers off of her body she swung her legs around and placed her feet flat on the ground. A quick glance at her clock told her that she had only been in a deep sleep for at most a half hour. With a sigh she got up to check on everyone and see if she could find any answers. Robin clearly had shown no sign of being affected by the massive wave of magic that had awoken her. In fact, he had only been startled because of her own reaction to it. It seemed that the Seal was determined to give her more questions to investigate and take away her precious sleep. This certainly wasn’t the first time that she’d felt the residuals of magic pass through town. They were up to the fourth maybe the fifth. Possibly even more. Regina had long ago stopped counting. Because that was sure to drive her crazy. After checking that everyone was still sleeping, Regina, knowing that she’d never be able to get back sleep, walked towards the kitchen. Coffee was still off limits to her while she was still breastfeeding but herbal teas were all right. And so with a flick of her wrist the flame was lit under the kettle and on the counter her mug with a tea bag lay waiting. 7:00 am - 12:40 pm She had long since finished her first cup of tea and had moved onto her second. But no amount of tea seemed to give her the clarity of mind that she needed to figure out where that wave of magic came from. She was just as clueless with this wave as she had been with the residual magic that they’d felt a few days before. Regina had just placed her mug down on the counter when she felt the slight tremors. Her hands gripped the counter as she waited to see if that was it. But when the tremors didn’t seem to be stopping she let go of the counter. Now wasn’t the time ask questions. Or try to come up with answers. What she needed to do was make sure that her family all moved in to the doorways of their rooms. The tremors didn’t seem to be too intense so it would all be over soon. They would treat this just as they did tornado warnings. First and foremost, Regina, moved quickly into her son’s nursery and scooped him up. The tremors had woken him up and he was seconds away from utilizing his impressive lungs. With his tiny body cradled close to her body she made her way to the other side of the house. It didn’t take long to wake Scorpius. It seemed he too had been awake for some time. Roland, however, took some convincing. Once she had made sure that Scorpius knew what to do she led Roland out of the room and led him towards her and Robin’s room. The only reason that she had left Scorpius in his own room and didn’t demand that he come with her was simple. They wouldn’t all be able to brace themselves in the doorway to her room. And deep down she knew that Scorpius was more than capable of taking care of himself. If he truly felt unsafe he’d also apparate directly into her room. Upon entering her room Roland ran to his father who scooped him into his arms. The look on her soulmates face mirrored the one on her own. Regina gestured for father and son to come to her and she guided all four of them to brace themselves in the doorway to the room. But it wasn’t long before, Regina, realized that bracing themselves wasn’t going to be enough. The tremors continued to increase and she could see and hear things begin to fall from where they lay. Their only option now was to get out of the house before they were trapped. Grabbing Robin’s hand she pulled them out of their present position and directed him towards the front door. Scorpius met them at the door most likely having come to the same conclusion that she had. Once outside, Regina, moved them out of the direct path of any falling debris. Which truthfully was easy. Her only concern was whether or not the hill they should stay on the hill or move downhill. It wasn’t until Roland asked about Zahiri that Regina realized that while she had gotten all of them out safely the animals were still inside. Gently placing her son into Robin’s arms she promised to return. Her mission would have been so much easier had she remembered that she had magic. But her mind was far from focused enough to utilize it even if she had remembered. It didn’t take her long to locate her little zoo of animals. They had all hidden in the pantry. As items continued to fall off their shelves she quickly grabbed Lys and Rayna. Nyx immediately latched onto her robe when he saw her. And with a stern Zahiri Katherine and Elijah’s dog followed behind her. Within a minutes she was back outside with her family. And together the family of five watched as their home crumbled before them. Handing one of the kittens to Scorpius and the other to Roland she reached for Robin and her son. She pulled them closer to her and she buried her head in his neck. She couldn’t bare to watch as her home was destroyed. That home held quite a bit of memories for her. It was the first place that she had felt that she belonged. Where she had found people who truly grew to care for her as she did for them. The very home where the son cradled in Robin’s arms had been conceived and almost born. To see it destroyed was a huge blow to her heart and all Regina could do was silently cry. Her family might have safely made it outside with only a few tiny scrapes and bruises but Regina’s heart had been left inside. Now buried somewhere in the rubble of her house. |
