=======================
Damien honestly hadn't felt at his best lately. Oh, there was that successful hunt with Levi. They'd stopped ghouls from hurting anyone. And taking out such evil things as them was actually fun too. But the ghost attacks. Of which were a lot in his case. Those he had killed in defense of his life, deaths he might have prevented, even those who died because of him or by those who protected him. It had been very stress inducing. And then reading a comment about the seals breaking again. Reminding him of the big fight and how he ended up In Hell - err, the Cage, for half a century. That, plus the spirits, and he had suddenly been angry. He already had been at the time but whatever the Seal had done, seemed to amp it up even more. It had been so much more than he'd ever felt before. Which was not good in his case. Some of his destructive powers reacted to personal anger and wrathful thoughts, it could be a trigger type reaction. He had decided to leave town so any disasters or chaos could be avoided, no chance of accidents or powers out of control if he was away from the populace. He had only gotten back a couple days before once he felt the anger and hate leave him a little bit, when he felt calmer.
He had hoped to have a nice birthday celebration and party, but it was unfortunately put on hold. He was curious as to what gifts Kirk got him, though his main focus recently was trying to give him advice on a situation he had been in because of the emotion overflow that had happened. He needed to keep himself busy. Maybe check on his company, look at the progress. But first he wanted to get some archery practice. He had already done a fair share of sword tactics, unarmed fighting, and shooting range. Now he thought it was time to go to a quiet part of a forest and practice some arrow work. So he dressed up in jeans and a black shirt, and leather jacket. He had a quiver of steel tipped arrows, and carried a bow in his hand. He was walking outside and ready to get into his car. "Wait, should check something else first," he mumbled to himself and made his way to the mailboxes area. Just as he was about to reach out, he winced, caught by surprise. His eyes felt strange. He rubbed a free hand on them, blinking. It seemed to go dark for some reason. Like an eclipse. It wasn't, though. Everything around him was dark. But not merely just like the darkness of light, but nothingness. He could see nothing.
Damien did not understand. What was happening? I can't see, he thought. The realization of that thought now hit him hard. I can't see. I can't see?! No, he was blind? He had lost his sight. But this was impossible, he thought again. He should be immune to this sort of thing. He was immune to poisons, to toxic gas, biological illnesses, infirmities; blindness shouldn't even be an issue. If one were to spray cleaner in his eyes, it would have little effect. He recalled a chemical accident as a boy, all the other cadets had been coughing and rubbing their eyes, while himself? He had walked through it unaffected. So this right now, whatever it was, he thought it had to be something unnatural. The logic part of his mind said as much, but now that was being replaced by panic. He couldn't live like this. No, he needed his sight! He needed to see. His sight was required in nearly everything he did. Looking at business reports, weapon practice, hunting, talking to people, looking at art pieces in museums, even driving. This.. this was unfair, it was crazy and.. wrong.
He felt his heart racing at the helplessness of it all, at the tragedy. Was it temporary, he did not know. He would hope so. But just the fact that he was afflicted by this in the first place, he didn't know how to adapt. He had stopped on the sidewalk after pacing back and forth. He caught his foot on a small rock then, and tripped, falling down on his hands and knees. His leg bruised, as well as his palms, common scab.. but that and the discomfort of the fall subsided as he found himself healing within moments. He sat up then, looking up at the sky without seeing it, then toward the sides of the lot, downward, then around him. "You will pay for this," he spoke then, a cold anger in his voice as he said it to no one in particular. Whether it had been a person that caused it, a group, or if it was just an accident, he didn't care. Only that it had happened. Was he the only one? He didn't know yet.
He now had realized he was empty handed. The bow! Dammit. It must have dropped when he'd fallen. He felt along the grass, blindly feeling with touch, til he felt the handle and grabbed it. He now stood up and turned around. Damien began to walk for a moment, then stopped. It occurred to him just then he had no idea where he was facing. The act of his fall, searching for the bow, and standing up, he found he had no idea what was ahead of him or behind, or next to him. He was on the grass by the sidewalk, he knew that. "Damn, damn, damn," he said then, shaking his head, hand trembling and breathing heavily. Just one more thing, yet one more trial for him to face. He guessed the arrow practice would wait. He needed to get back to his room, but getting back to it without a guide would be disastrous. He'd likely end up walking out of the complex and into the traffic, judging from how his luck had went lately. But he'd survive. He was resolved to survive and fight this in any way possible. He just had to find it.
