Damien couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu, a sensation akin to familiarity, as he and Levi stayed in Chicago on this particular hunt. He had lived for years in that city back in his own world after all. This one didn't have everything he knew, though. There wasn't his manor. Or the company, though he could change that sometime in the future once his current one expanded. There also wasn't the military school he'd attended as a young boy. But everything else was mostly the same. He did like their food, especially the pizza. The kind that was large and needed a fork to cut into smaller bites, pepperoni and cheese. He had hoped Levi liked trying one of those. He'd probably introduce him to lots of other American food. But for the most part, he was focused on the job. He was always alert when out, noting that Levi was very cautious and looking over his shoulder for any attack, and himself being extra watchful as well. Being a former native of this city, he was also able to answer anything Levi might have wished to know about the city, how it worked, places, etc.
The investigation had led them to discover that, just as the hunt details specified, that bodies were becoming missing from cemeteries. Body thefts for eating, desecration. After some digging, they had found the few graveyards - which there were quite a lot in this city - that had suspicious activity. From what he had learned before, Damien also knew ghouls can attack and feed on the living if they chose to. That wasn't good. He hoped to stop them before they got that far. Fortunately, killing a ghoul was easy if you got the drop on them. They had extra strength and speed but their heads were a weakness. Shoot it, destroy it, or remove it, and that was the end of it. Decapitation seemed a good way to go, but it often was for most monsters. He knew full well Levi was capable of that sort of attack, having sparred with him a couple times before. Especially when he had those very sharp swords. Damien had one of his own, tucked away under his long overcoat. He also had a pistol with a silencer attachment. One could never really go wrong with guns in his opinion.
They were currently in the hotel room that Damien had arranged for them to stay in, himself sitting on his bed, notebooks, pen, and a couple city maps spread out in front of him. He had circled the sections of one map that depicted graveyard locations in the big city in black marker, while a blue ink marker circled again - those that had the thefts so far. He had wrote a date and time on it as well to signify the time frame of the body thefts. Looking for a pattern. "Hmm," he muttered to himself, "okay, check this out," he spoke to Levi, pointing down at the diagram. "Looks random at first. Almost a circle but the same ones from a week before, they get hit again. Like they're going out a ways and then doubling back." he looked at the second map to compare. "And another thing. Looks like there's a residence or two near the third one on here. Maybe they're using it as a place to take the bodies to. Wouldn't be smart to do their eating right there in the crypt and risk interruptions or getting caught. If I were a ghoul.. I'd take them somewhere secluded, maybe plain and simple type building. I think we should go check these out." He had a feeling they were close. He had an additional feeling that someone living might have been taken and couldn't shake the urgency about this matter. If he was wrong, they'd regroup and do some more searching. But if he were right? If his instinct was accurately on the mark this time? They had to make sure. And then deal with it. Take them down as soon as possible.
