Korra was truly happy, for the first time a long time. Sure, she'd just been through a really serious fight, but...a lot of good had come from it, right? Balance had been restored. Another spirit portal had been opened. The Earth Kingdom was stabilizing, after being in turmoil for years, and everything seemed to be settling down at last. Plus, she was going to spend time with Asami. Just the two of them. No interruptions, no crisis to deal with, just them relaxing in the Spirit World, exploring it together, and having a good time.
And finding out what they meant to each other. Korra has basically just confessed to Asami how she felt about her, and vice versa. Asmai had become the woman that she fought over the same man with, to her closest friend, to the woman she loved. It was crazy, but Korra didn't care. She loved Asami, and she wanted to be with her. And now, she finally could. As they walked to the Spirit Portal, Korra reached for Asami's hand, taking it in hers and giving it a light squeeze as they walked through the portal together. They locked eyes as they went through the portal, and Korra smiled, her heart racing.
And then...Korra felt herself being pulled from Asami. Her hand slipped from hers, and her brain started to panic. This had never happened to her before when she went to the Spirit World before, even when she did step through the portal. It was almost like she was being taken against her will. Her heart started to beat unevenly in her chest. No. This could not be happening. Not now. Not after all the crazy crap she'd just been through recently. She was supposed to be going on a nice, quiet, relaxing vacation with Asami.
Everything seemed to be happening so fast, Korra couldn't pull it all together. Her head was spinning a million miles an hour, and her heart was racing in her chest at alarming rate. The world spun around her, and then suddenly, jerked to a complete and sudden start.
It took Korra a bit to come to her senses...but she could tell that she was not in the Spirit World. In fact, it wasn't like anything she'd ever seen before. Sure, she'd seen graveyards before, but this wasn't like any graveyard she'd ever been in before. Something was...off about it. Actually, something felt off about this entire place. Korra couldn't sense any spiritual energy, or at least, no energy that she'd ever felt before. And her gut feeling was telling her that she should be on her guard.
She could hear something coming. Kind of far off in the distance, so she couldn't really make it out, but Korra wasn't going to rule out that what was coming towards her might be a threat. She wasn't going to reach right for the Avatar state yet, but she was going to be on the defensive, just in case. Korra tossed up a wall of air around. Anyone who tried coming at her right away was going to have a hard time getting close to her.
