He'd sat mostly focused on the screen, not quite sure yet what to make of any of it as the credits rolled. He'd been helping 33, Kara. Her name was Kara and now, he was what, helping her tear down Bakshi, helping her do to him what he'd lead to be done to her. Or making her a weapon just like him. Is that what he'd watched?
He'd dealt with the rest, even proud of himself for resisting 33's advances while wearing Skye's face, he watched and dealt with Coulson basically abandoning Skye to a gilded prison, watching Fitzsimmons tear themselves apart. Even dealt with... okay, admittedly watching 'new SHIELD' was pretty funny. He got why Morse had done it, but even so, it was only going to lead to more problems and more sides to chose from. Which is something that would help exactly no one. Bar maybe Von Strucker.
It was watching himself call her Kara. Watching them share a moment that was actually healthy in some ways only to see what they had planned for Bakshi that had done it. He'd tried to bolt. Tried to get out of there before Skye saw what he did. That look in his eyes he'd noticed that read to him just like John. He was doing to Kara what John had done to him, okay maybe without the weakness, without the constant admonishing but he was leading her on a dark path.
He probably should have remembered that his girlfriend had super powers. As he went to leave the ground shook and he turned back to face Skye. There was so much he needed to say and he'd hoped to have some time to figure that out. But he'd learned quickly that Skye liked to deal with things as soon as they arose. No pushing away, no hiding, no compartmentalizing. Not with her. Never with her. And Skye was also very aware that he would never lie to her. It was a dangerous combination.
"Every time we watch this something falls apart, us, Hunter and Bobbi, Fitzsimmons...every time something happens and there's some new mess I walked into. God, Skye I thought this time maybe I planned to help her, she got me out of there, you know that, out of San Juan. She saved me and I wanted to help her. I really did want to help her cause whatever I did, whatever I chose. Kara didn't choose anything. So just...can we not do this now? Can I go without...y'know?"
