One thing he had learned very well since being in Lawrence was being aware of his surroundings. True, Kirk didn't have supernatural senses to help, but he liked to think he'd honed the skill pretty well. As he looked at the vampire in front of him, though, he wished he'd practiced harder. There was the chance this guy wasn't the one in charge, wasn't Rose's boyfriend, but he didn't think he was that lucky.
He shifted his position, moving his hands so that he could get closer to his phaser, which was at the small of his back, and he settled for his hands on his hips. If he could stun the vampire for a couple of minutes he could make it to the walk-in gate and be safe. "Let me guess," Kirk said after a moment. "Dmitri, right?"
