Elena sensed that something was wrong, even before it happened. She could feel the hairs on the back of her neck rising - the feeling you got when someone was watching you. She had just enough time to brace herself before the impact came and she was forced back against the nearest wall, the impact momentarily knocking the wind from her lungs. If she had been human, the blow would have incapacitated her, even if only briefly, but she wasn't a human any more and that fact allowed her to recover her senses quickly enough to take stock of the situation.
"Dimitri," she breathed, her wide eyes flickering over the face of the man pinning her. She could see how Rose could love a face like that. He was handsome, if you could see past the pale, almost translucent pallor, and the frightening red tinge in his eyes. He was strong, too - she could feel by the way he was pressing her back into the brickwork. He was stronger than her, she guessed, but maybe not stronger than someone like Klaus. Either way, she didn't think she'd be able to fight her way out of this one.
She was stupid. She scolded herself for taking the chance, trying to make it home instead of just admitting she'd made a mistake and staying the night at Jemma's. Being here, being safe, had made her too complacent. Still, she knew there was no point in mentally beating herself up over it now. That wasn't going to help her. In fact, it was only distracting her. She needed to think of something to do, something that would help.
What would Damon do?
Okay, no, that was a terrible idea. Damon would say something snarky or throw a punch and end up getting himself hurt or kidnapped or... No, thinking about that wasn't helping either. She needed to be smart. She needed to approach this rationally. She needed to approach this with a view to surviving.
What would Katherine do?
Katherine was the queen of self-preservation. She had kept herself alive for over five centuries before she'd finally met her comeuppance, and that was with Klaus as an adversary. What would Katherine do right now? Elena thought back over the many times Katherine had managed to slither out of tight situations. But how? She got others to do her dirty work. Well, that wasn't going to be much use right now: the street was abandoned apart from her and her Strigoi captor. She told people what they wanted to hear? Elena figured she could try that, although what she knew about this man she could probably write on the back of a matchbox She would pretend to be someone she wasn't...
Elena paused in her train of thought, wondering. Would it do any good? Would it make anything better or would it be just like holding a red rag to a Strigoi? Whatever the outcome, it was the best plan Elena could come up with.
Putting on her best impression of Rose's accent, Elena gulped and said, "Did you? Find me? Or did I find you?"
