“Thank you.” Lydia had said to the college advisor who she’d been sitting with for the past hour going over all of the things that she’d had help with putting together. Thank you Caroline for informing her about it! Lydia had to re-sit some of the dull tests and as expected had done extremely well, the college advisor asked her rather dumb and typical questions but Lydia answered them as well as she could, even being smart enough to drop some of the annoyance out of her voice at times. Lydia just really thought it was a waste of time, it was highly unlikely that any of the classes would truly challenge her. As she left the college office she’d gone to the bus that would take her the long way back to the Greaves house. “I’ve got to get a car.” She muttered as she relaxed back a little bit on the horrible public transportation. As far as she knew she’d been on the same two buses as she always had, but that wasn’t the fact. Somehow she’d ended up on a different bus, Lydia just kept moving as if everything was perfectly normal, nothing strange about the day. As she got off the bus she just kept walking, she walked a lot longer than it normally would have been to the apartment she shared with Allison but she didn’t really have a good reference on it. That was until she found herself opening the door to a rather normal looking house, not an apartment, but a house. She was utterly clueless until she blinked looking around the entry. “Are you kidding me!” She whined as her shoulders shrank. “And I thought maybe, maybe being pulled here would mean I wouldn’t have to find dead bodies!” She said to herself as she slowly moved into the house. She didn’t move quickly, who knew what was waiting to attack her here. This was just not good, who was she supposed to call? Scott and Stiles weren’t here and she wasn’t really sure if Allison knew anyone they could call otherwise. Slowly, she took baby steps in her brown high heeled boots. Rounding a corner she turned to look into what was probably supposed to be a kitchen but she couldn’t really focus on the normal things like an oven. No, her attention was on the blood. All the blood. Taking a deep breath in she turned around quickly facing away from it shutting her eyes. “Breath Lydia. You have to breath.” She said assuming she was alone. ~~~ There had been murmurings of a Rugaru in the area. They were never good to allow to be on the loose for long and heading to the house he’d had his suspicions confirmed while finding the bloodied mess the man had left behind. He’d need to alert the rest to the Rugaru on the loose, let them know the description from the photographs in the house. The dead man was a housemate. Upstairs was the other one. Leaving only one of the men unaccounted for from all of the photographs in the house. At least there was a description because otherwise figuring out who the monster was among all the inhabitants of Lawrence would be a daunting task. It was no New York but it still had a decent population. He heard someone entering the house and Bobby had his blow torch ready if the monster had returned but a familiar voice started muttering and he rolled his eyes, not at all surprised that Lydia Martin had showed up. Gotta love Banshees. He headed back down into the kitchen, shaking his head as he watched her. The sight of so much blood was a hard one to get used to. Especially when the body was left behind with pieces of it’s flesh missing. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you showed up here.” ~~~ Hearing footsteps Lydia braced herself, or well as best as she could given her interview worthy outfit, but she wasn’t going to be taken by… whatever had done this, if she had to, she’d find some way to survive. However what came into was not what she had expect. It wasn’t a big scary looking creature, or something with fangs. No it was a man. An older man, who looked grumpy and seemed to not be at all surprised that she was standing there, or that she’d somehow found a body. He seemed… annoyed? Amused? Something, but it whatever it was, it was NOT surprised, which was not normal. Lydia was used to people being surprised by seeing her at crime scenes, although there were some in law enforcement now that knew what she was and tried to help. “And I suppose I’m not supposed to be surprised that you’re here too?” Lydia said with hints of annoyance to mask her actual fear. ~~~ “You ain’t been here long enough to not be surprised by that yet.” He shrugged, still keeping alert in case the rugaru showed back up again. He doubted that it would. It’d already gotten what it needed from here. No doubt it was heading to a friend’s place or out of town if it had any intelligence. Killing inside of Lawrence was a fool’s errand for monsters with how many hunters were inside the city limits. “Bobby Singer. I’m the one who designed all the monster classes.” He motioned toward the mess that was left. “And this is what it looks like to get on the bad end of a Rugaru. Don’t recommend it. They ain’t exactly gentle.” Plus they were cannibals who didn’t seem to care if their meat was cooked or not. “I’m guessing you weren’t here looking for them and wandered here on account of your banshee mojo.” Or at least that was how it seemed to work on that show of hers. ~~~ As if she needed another reminder about how she hadn’t been here long enough even though there were previous versions of her that had been here before. She started to wonder if maybe an earlier version of herself had met this man, whom she found out was Bobby Singer. “Pleasure, I’m sure. You already seem to know who I am.” She said making a note to ask Allison anything she knew about Bobby Singer and everything she knew. Lydia gave him a tight half smile as she looked back to the mess behind her, it was easier to think of it as a mess and not a person, because if she started to think about it as a… No it was a mess. “It doesn’t look like anything I’d actually want to be acquainted with.” Lydia agreed, actually grateful to be putting a name to what did this. “What exactly is a Rugaru? Other than it did this.” She asked as she gestured towards the kitchen. Wincing just slightly it was weird that he knew what she was. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that there are people here who know about… me.” Lydia said stopping herself from saying what I am because sometimes she didn’t even understand exactly what she was. “Yes. I was just leaving the college and I was heading to the apartment that Allison and I share and I was going to tell her about my college advisor meeting. Instead, I found myself here.” ~~~ “Rugaru’s look like humans. They basically are ones until they reach a certain age. Once that happens ain’t nothing going to stop them from doing what their genetics demand. And that’s to eat human flesh.” And then it would turn into a monster so finding the guy might not be as easy as he’d like it to be. “Ain’t a thing that can be done for them once that happens.” He motioned for the two of them to step outside of the kitchen. There really wasn’t a need to stay in there with the dead body. It wasn’t like they’d be able to do anything for it. “Most people don’t go watching your show so you won’t have to worry about too many knowing. People don’t like seeing into one another’s lives if they can help it usually.” He was an exception to that rule. Bobby watched everything. He was the one who knew about monsters and he wasn’t about to not know something because watching a show might hurt someone’s feelings. There were certain people who could show up from any world and cause insurmountable amounts of trouble. Didn’t hurt to be on top of knowing who those were. ~~~ “Hmm. I wonder how much a bounty on them would be.” She said shaking her head. “Sorry.” That wasn’t something she should have said, but after everything they’d been through it did come to mind, what would some of these supernatural creatures go for? What would they be? It was just something she couldn’t help herself from thinking about. Even though that wasn’t an issue here and it wasn’t at home either, it was still something she thought about. Lydia had no problem walking away from the kitchen with him, it was hard enough to look at the first and second time, Lydia didn’t need to see it anymore than she already had. “And yet I get the sense that you either watch it or you knew me before.” Lydia said not really worried about what other people did at that moment, she was more worried about what Bobby did. “Clearly you’re well educated despite the love of trucker stop fashion.” She noted wanting to, no needing to know more about exactly what he thought. ~~~ “Doubt they’d be worth all that much. A couple of million at most.” Maybe more. Not that it really mattered much there. “And its a bit of both. Watch the show and knew you before. A while before though. Last you was rather quiet.” He’d barely seen her presence and wasn’t even sure she’d been around half the time. He shrugged at the comment about his fashion taste. It got the job done. He didn’t see a point in the fancy clothes with what he got up to. Blood was a bitch to get out and it never hurt to be camouflaged if he could be. “I prefer spending my money on books and the appropriate things to get rid of these monsters than other things.” Seemed more useful to him than designer jeans but to each their own. “Which place are you at? I’ll make sure you get back there.” He didn’t think the Rugaru was still around but it never hurt to be cautious. ~~~ “I’m sorry, did you just say last me was quiet?” Lydia said in mild disbelief, how was it possible for last her to be quiet when dead bodies showed up sometimes she really didn’t have a choice and with all the supernatural insanity around this place it was unlikely that she wouldn’t find someway, probably not her doing, to end up around it. “Now that is surprising.” “Speaking of the books that you like spending money on, any on banshees?” What? It couldn’t hurt to ask, he clearly already knew what she was, he also seemed like he might have some answers that could be useful, or at least books or something else. “I know, I know, different worlds, but that doesn’t mean I can’t learn about what banshees are like here, if there are even any.” Lydia sighed slightly. “Greave’s House, with my friend Allison.” She said. “And thank you, it’s a little harder getting around without a car, especially when you find yourself in a completely different place than you intended on going.” ~~~ “I got a number of them. Ain’t sure how much good they’ll do you but I’ll let you borrow them.” He knew she would treat them with care and not lose them like some of the others might. Maybe they would give her some insight but it the whole different worlds thing really did hold true a lot of the time. “I can drop them off at the Greave’s House after I sort them out of the library.” The one at his apartment had a certain method of madness to it that only he really understood. It might look like chaos to others but it all made sense to him. “I’m sure there’s someone who would be able to help you out with the car situation if you ask around. Enough people wished for unlimited funds that they don’t mind handing out things like that.” One day he would manage that wish but the Seal seemed to like to throw the baubles out after pissing him off enough that he just wanted the damn things gone. He headed out of the house, sending off an anonymous tip to 911 about the chaos that was inside and led Lydia over to his car. “Hate to say it but you really might get more insight into your kinda banshee when your show comes back on.” ~~~ “Thank you.” She said adding a trademark smile afterwards. She really did mean it though, she was really thankful for the offer, and she would read them all, she did read a lot after all. Lydia needed to know more and it seemed that Bobby Singer was completely on board with the concept of allowing her to learn more. “I’ll have to keep that in mind, because really, the bus is not the best form of transportation in this city.” Lydia said although really any bus was never going to be an okay form of transportation and she was not a huge fan of all the people on the bus either, it could be creepy. As she got into his car she looked out the window for a moment. “Trust me that is exactly what I will be doing. As weird as it will be to watch my life on TV, if there is any information I can get from it, I’ll get it.” Although she probably would have to find a way to watch when Allison wasn’t around, that would be too hard. “You probably know where the good book stores are in town right?” ~~~ “I know a few. It’ll depend on what you’re wanting to read for where I’d send you. Occult kind of books ain’t exactly going to be found at the local Barnes & Noble. At least not any accurate ones.” It wouldn’t take too long to get to the Greave’s House and Bobby knew that the girl had to have questions. With how smart she was he wouldn’t be surprised if her mind was constantly bubbling over with them. “But if you’re just looking for books to read you might as well pop by the local libraries, college and city ones. Or talk to the other displaced and see what they’ve got available. Never know what they might have on their shelves.” Considering what people could have wished for over the last few years there could plenty of rare finds out there just waiting to be discovered. He pulled up into the parkinglot of the apartment. “Anything else you’re itching to know?” ~~~ “Even before I learned about this whole being a banshee thing I had taught myself archaic latin, because really, latin itself is way too simple and easy. I was just wonder where I could find books on other archaic languages. I get the feeling they might be useful living in this world.” Lydia said as if she were talking about who might get elected homecoming queen. “Bobby, or should I call you Mr. Singer, if I want to look for run of the mill boring books, I’ll google them. I was hoping you might actually have insight into more useful bookshops.” She said with a bright grin, even though all she felt was a mixture of fear and desire to know more. As they pulled into the parking lot she looked over to him with rolled eyes. “You have a Rugaru to hunt and really I don’t want myself or Allison to turn into lunch or dinner or a midnight snack. As many questions as I have that are all burning questions, I’d rather you go take care of the problem at hand before I monopolize your time with my questions.” Lydia might be selfish and she might be shallow, but she knew in her gut that Bobby Singer was able to help keep people alive, her questions could be a problem for tomorrow, today he needed to take care of the not some human but human looking monster that had done the horrific act she’d seen not long before. ~~~ He picked a receipt up off the floor and scribbled down the names of a few bookshops that would have what she was looking for. “Tell them I sent you and they’ll make sure to show you their hidden sections.” Some books never needed to get into the general publics’ hands. That was how mistakes happened. “And either or is fine. I ain’t picky as long as you say it with respect.” Which she was doing with his name so whichever way was more comfortable to her would work for him. “Send me your questions on the network and I’ll get to them whenever I can. Or hit up one of the classes I’m teaching and we can go over them afterward.” Either way would work for him. But she was right. He had a monster to locate and the sooner that was done, the better. The rugaru wasn’t going to stop killing until it was killed. He waited until Lydia was out of the car before peeling back out of the parking lot. A quick post to the network about what was happening and then a call to some people he knew would be able to help near by and Bobby knew there wouldn’t be any resting until the monster was finally found. ~~~ Taking the receipt from him she nodded. It was actually more than she could have hoped for. This meant she’d be able to get to the books she really wanted and she’d get to read more about perhaps some things in this world. Lydia made up her mind in that very second, she liked Bobby Singer, he might look like a trucker dressed him but she knew in that moment she could trust him, of course given he didn’t find it insane that she’d showed up at a dead body happened to help. “Thank you Bobby.” She said with an honest and kind smile, not her typical showy one. “I will, I’ll probably do both.” Lydia admitted as she got out of the car, before shutting the door she turned to look at him with a serious expression set on her face with narrowed eyes . “I know I’m still learning about what means to be a banshee but I can be useful sometimes in locating things like supernatural events. If you think I can help with any of these hunts that you send people on for that, I’m willing to help.” Actually Lydia wanted to help, she liked being one of the good guys and helping good people. She liked doing things that could save someone’s life. She still didn’t have a solid grip on what she was, but she did strongly believe that she could be useful. Stepping back as she shut the door she watched him drive away. Tilting her head in thought she finally just shrugged and turned on her heels to go to her and Allison’s apartment. ~~~ |
