She knew they remembered things different, they saw things differently and mostly she thought that he just couldn't see clearly what Garrett really was, even though he claimed he could. She hadn't seen him for months after, not until Coulson had ordered her to and even then she had fought hard against the compassion and sympathy she still couldn't help feeling. It worried her now, remembering that moment when she realized he'd been hurting himself in that cell in whatever way he could find. Would he go back to that if Garrett wasn't actually okay? Ward wasn't the only one who was having trouble holding onto the focus they both needed for this, even if it was for different reasons. Her concern was all for him. She only cared about Garrett's well-being as it affected the man she was standing here with.

And it was probably her fault. She'd give Tasha the address and whatever had happened, that meant she might have some responsibility. She couldn't admit that to him, though. She couldn't tell him what she knew, not unless it became essential to finding the man she despised.

"The best parts of you have nothing to do with him," she said, willing to leave it at that. She knew he believed he owed Garrett everything and maybe she'd never convince him otherwise. Maybe it was stupid to keep trying. It was almost definitely stupid to care so much about him having the chance for something better.

Skye shook her head at his apology. "You're not putting me through anything. This is my choice. Whatever we find, I want to be there." She could make a hundred excuses at to why, like how she'd promised Tasha that she'd let her know what they foudn, but but there was a part of her that knew it was for him, because she wanted to be there for him.
