Castiel smiled as he sat at the plastic table. The sun was out, after all, and he was by the window. Castiel had had no previous experience with pancakes but the way people seemed to speak of them with such joy told him he was going to enjoy them. He was enjoying everything today. The walk there in the gentle breeze, the smile of the girl behind the counter. The smell of... pancakes and honey and sugar and meat.

Castiel had placed his order. Actually he wasn't overly sure what he was getting but he didn't mind. It could only be exceedingly pleasant. Somewhere in the back of his mind there was a nagging doubt that there was something important he should be doing but he dismissed it. Surely anything important would also be obvious. He beamed up at the waitress as she placed his order in front of him. "You are so beautiful," he purred at her. She blushed and hurried back to the counter, hiding her smile.

Pancakes. She hadn't had those since arriving in Kansas and they sounded absolutely wonderful. Fred had spent the morning carefully observing all the plants in the apartments. There was an absolutely wonderful fern that she had decided to adopt for her very own. It was so very, very green and beautiful and important, or at least she thought so. When she'd expressed this on the boards, she had found a new friend. So it was important!

After letting Lorne know where she was going, and postponing further exploration of plant life in the complex (and twinkies later!), she wandered from the apartments. It took her some time to find the IHOP that had been mentioned and to the table at which Castiel sat. She dropped down into the seat next to him, leaning over to inhale the delicious scent of the food. Her stomach rumbled. "Mmmm." She beamed up at him. "Hi!"

Humans were annoying creatures. Uriel typically wanted nothing more than to see them all explode. Yes, explode. What could be more entertaining than to watch something that you hated the sight of blow up? Nothing, that's what. Except for lately. Lately, Uriel had been feeling a bit more amused by the hairless monkeys than he usually was. Watching them bicker and chat away on that internet device had not been enough for him. No, Uriel suddenly found that he had to take part in their conversations. Discussing the round, doughy food that the red thing had brought up was most entertaining. And then, for the first time in his existence, Uriel found that he craved food. Food.

So he agreed to meet with his brother and the humans. If anything, he would get a laugh at the sight of how pathetic that they were. Humans. Ha. Silly creatures indeed.

Appearing outside of the restaurant he knew the others were to meet, Uriel straightened out his jacket and moved inside. Pointedly, he ignored the woman who offered to seat him and located the body that he knew Castiel to be wearing. To his surprise, Uriel found that seeing his brother was less annoying than it usually was. Why was that?

"Hello."

Even though she'd been soooo hungry and had been talking about getting food, Sookie had just felt like it'd be too much effort to go ALL the way down to the kitchen.

Her head hurt a little, but she decided to just take some aspirin before heading out.

But when she finally did get out, she went back to the iHop that the big red guy had talked about, because she still wanted pancakes. They were, like, vital.

As she walked into the restaurant, she took a deep breath, then smiled. She saw the one girl who'd been talking about pancakes originally sitting with a guy, and another guy standing by the table, and walked on over slowly, swaying ever so slightly.

"Hi there! Can I sit with you too?" She decided to just try and ignore their thoughts and just listen to their mouths. Otherwise it might get confusing.

Castiel beamed at his companions.
"Fred!" he said to the pretty brunette who joined him first. He got to his feet. "That means I owe you something!" He opened his arms warmly, inviting her into a hug.

Over her shoulder he caught sight of his brother. "Uriel!" he said with great cheerfulness, his smile beaming. "Come, join us. These pancakes, they are amazing! You can ask for anything they have on them. The bacon and cream is the best so far." He returned to his seat.

He was delighted when another young lady came to the table. She did not seem as cheerful as the others. She would need to be made to feel welcome. Castiel gave her his best smile. "Of course," he said, his voice as warm as his smile. "I'm Castiel, this is my brother Uriel and this is Fred. Uriel and I have never had pancakes before but I would have had had I known how pleasing eating was."

He turned to the group at large. "You order at the counter over there," he informed them. "Just make sure you are nice to the girls, they have been walking around in this room for hours."

His concentration was clearly vague. His attention wa

She was absolutely thrilled that he remembered. Fred quickly rose from her seat and flung her arms around his middle, hugging Castiel as tight as she could. Not one of those halfhearted hugs, but a proper, I-Enjoy-Your-Presence hugs that were given to people she really, really enjoyed seeing. He was one of those people because he liked the same things that she did and was very nice.

With the arrival of the second man, Fred drew away from Castiel and opened her arms to Uriel as well. It only seemed fair that he get a hug too. In fact, she felt that everyone deserved a hug because why not? They were friendly and easy to give and they had pancakes. It was such a good day and her mood was so blissfully happy that she needed to share it with everyone.

"Hi Uriel!" she said, greeting him warmly. She glanced back at Castiel, jaw dropping. "You guys have never had pancakes?" Her eyes went wide as she looked up at Uriel. "It's good your having pancakes. You can't not have pancakes. They're such a good food that they gave them their own restaurant." To her, that was inexcusable. It was good that they were correcting that right now.

When Sookie arrived, it was time for another hug. "Hi Sookie!" At least she was pretty sure that was her name from seeing her around the apartments. But even if it wasn't, she seemed like a Sookie, so all was ok.

Then, it was time for what she craved. Pancakes. "I'm going to go get some," she informed the other three. Unneccessarily.

Uriel was not very used to seeing his brother look so cheerful. In truth, he wasn't used to feeling so terribly cheerful himself. Something wasn't quite right, but that same motivation that had led him to the restaurant they were standing within was also preventing him from trying to figure out what the problem was. One moment he had been scouring the city in search for another one of the angels that he had been looking to turn over to Zachariah; the next, he was craving monkey food. Additionally, Uriel suddenly found the presence of the humans to be less irritating and far more welcoming than he could have ever imagined.

All the same, when the tiny one - Fred - wrapped her arms around him Uriel found that he was unable to do nothing more than look at her in confusion. Disgusting humans were hugging him. Him. He looked down at her with a frown as soon as she released him and, very seriously, Uriel declared, "I should smite you."

A burst of laughter immediately followed the statement. He chuckled, bumping into Castiel's table as he clapped a hand to his stomach and shook with laughter. For some unknown reason, the phrase amused him more than anything else. And smite. Now that was a funny word. He was going to smite Fred. Fred was going to be smote. Oh, how smitten all the humans would be!

"No, we have never had pancakes. We do not need to eat as you do." Uriel looked over to Castiel with a smirk. "But if Castiel enjoys eating these 'pancakes', I suppose I will take pleasure in eating them as well."

At the welcome from the guy and the hug from Fred, Sookie broke into a bright smile, returning the brunette's hug warmly. She was suddenly really glad she had come. "Hi everyone!" When Fred said she was going to the counter, Sookie moved next to her. "I'll go with you! I want to try every kind, I think. I bet they have a lot more kinds than what we have in Bon Temps!"

She smiled at the two men, then walked to the counter with her new friend, scanning the menu, before looking at the order taker. "Can we have one of everything?"

Castiel had always liked humans but he had never noticed how joyful they were before. This Fred seemed like sunshine captured and formed into a girl. (Castiel had no idea that among humans this was something of a cliché). He was delighted when she hugged Uriel, a little wary at first, Uriel had quite the temper, but he accepted the hug with good grace and Castiel's smile widened. Uriel made an insincere threat about smiting and Castiel decided this was about the funniest thing he had ever heard. He chuckled heartily.

"You will take pleasure in them Uriel. Now sit yourself down and take a bite." He held out a fork-full of pancake, syrup and cream to his fellow angel. "Try it!" he encouraged.

The girl behind the counter looked a little taken aback at Sookie's order. "Um, yeah," she said uncertainly, "but it will take me a while to ring that up. You sure you can... it'll cost a bit." It was certainly the strangest order she had had.

Fred's eyes widened when Uriel said he should smite her. Smite. That word was as funny as shag and everyone else seemed to think so too. She started laughing after the angels had, lightly smacking Uriel on the arm. "You're so funny," she declared and happened to be completely serious on that matter. He was a very funny man. Smite indeed.

And Bon Temps was a funny name for a place. As soon as she thought it, her mouth opened and the same thought was given verbalization. "Bon Temps is a funny name for a place," she told Sookie. "I like it." Funny was good. The four of them were all funny and they were getting along well together, so obviously funny was like an adhesive agent. Funny was like glue. There, that sounded right.

At the counter, Fred stood behind Sookie, nodding emphatically to the other woman's order. "That's all right. We've got time. Time is limitless and wibbly wobbly," she declared, as if this should make some sort of sense to the woman behind the counter. "And we're really hungry." That was added as an afterthought but they wouldn't have been here if they weren't hungry, right?
