Where: Bed of Roses
When: Afternoon on October 30th - Backdated
Rating/Status: Low | Complete.
After getting directions to Bed of Roses, Cami made her way out of the compound where she felt a strange feeling of loss and comfort all at the same time. Everyone was… different. Sure they were still exactly the people she knew back in New Orleans, at least those that she knew, but they were still really different. Cami found herself feeling mildly confused. She wasn’t going to let herself feel anything else, at least that was the goal right? Hold in the rest of what she thought or felt. It was better that way. The thought of meeting Rebekah kind of was giving Cami mixed feelings, but Davina had told her about how Rebekah was different here, married to Stefan and in general happier basically? Well, she figured Rebekah had a lot to deal with from her background. Cami had a unique view on some of her past as she had had Klaus tell her more of it than maybe she ever should know, or she wanted to know. That was a lie, Cami wanted to know, she wanted to understand and the thought of Klaus just made her uncomfortable so she pushed that thought out of her head. As she made it to Bed of Roses she muttered quickly to herself about how she could handle this and that it really would be okay. It really would be. That was what mattered right? Right. Pushing the door open she took the first few steps into the place before spotting Rebekah. “Hey.” She said realising that she actually probably needed to tell Rebekah who she was. “I’m Cami.” God this was so weird, but she said she’d put in a good effort, so she was going to. ~~~ The Bed of Roses wasn’t quite ready to open, and Rebekah was going about her usual routine of checking the drinks bottles, making sure the bar was cleaned off and the glasses ready. As the door to the bar opened, she straightened up, tucking a lock of her long blonde hair behind her ear as she did so. She figured the newcomer was Cami, though having the introduction definitely helped. “Hey,” she smiled in greeting. “I’m Rebekah, which you already knew.” The vampire stepped around the bar to walk over to greet Cami properly. Because, in a way, Cami was meeting a new person. Lawrence had changed Rebekah, and that showed through in so many ways. The haughtiness and sass was still there, but softened in many ways as Rebekah had learned to let go of the mask she had worn so well for so many centuries. She was a woman more comfortable in her own skin, to a large extent. But, as she had mentioned, Lawrence had also been the source of some of her worst pain. While carefully applied make-up hid how pale she was now, there was still a darkness in her eyes put there by Hell itself. Literally. Fifty years trapped in the Cage, no amount of mascara could cover that up. The biggest difference though, or at least the obvious sign of it, had flashed under the lights as she adjusted her hair; the pair of rings on her wedding finger, one gleaming with diamonds and the other clearly an antique, the wedding band that had belonged to Stefan’s mother. “So, I’m still not entirely used to this,” Rebekah’s nose crinkled with confusion, though her expression was friendly enough. “Someone knowing me more than I know them. Do I need to apologize for anything my future self will do? I know I can be a Grade A bitch at times.” There was no shame in her voice, just a breezy amusement, because hey, why deny it, she could be one hell of a bitch when she wanted to be. But, hopefully, that wouldn’t taint any new relationship built up with Cami. ~~~ Davina’s asking her to give Rebekah a real chance ran through her head as Rebekah introduced herself. Cami kept having to tell herself that this Rebekah, while still Rebekah was also not the same one that she’d known in New Orleans. Starting fresh, Cami thought to herself as she forced a smile on her face, it was a little wary but she was really trying hard to be okay with everything. “It’s good to see you.” Cami said. It’d been a little while since she had seen Rebekah, so that was completely fair. Cami was really glad that she had Davina to fill her in on all of the ways people from their world were different, the marriages, the relationships, and all that kind of stuff. It was stuff that Cami found she really needed to know, because otherwise it got very confusing. “I know I said it before but congratulations.” She said as she motioned towards the rings. Cami had heard a lot about Mikaelson family from Klaus while he’d decided to use her, before Davina had managed to de-compelle her. She knew that Klaus hadn’t always been great about letting Rebekah find love, and keep it. “I’m not really used to the whole knowing a lot of people who don’t know me at all anymore thing either.” Cami said with a smile. “It’s awkward, and weird, but it’s what life is here, so we’ll just figure it out the best we can. How does that sound?” Cami said in a very typical to the point kind of way. “How about we just go with this is starting fresh for me, and if I do seem jumpy or awkward at any time around you or your brothers, just give me a free pass the first couple of times?” That seemed like a fair deal, she had a feeling when she saw some of them she’d have some very painful looks on her face. ~~~ Rebekah couldn’t help it, she broke into a beaming smile when Cami gestured at the rings, and she ran her fingers over the diamonds, looking almost goofily in love. “Thanks. It was nearly a year ago now, so romantic, we got married on a beach in Thailand and danced in the moonlight and all that kind of thing.” She made herself stop because really, she could gush about Stefan for hours. “And I’m done being all sickening, I promise.” She nodded, appreciating the way Cami was directly to the point with her attitude. “Awkward and weird can really define so damn much about Lawrence, timelines and multiple worlds and all the stuff that never seemed possible before. So yeah, you definitely get a few free passes on the jumpy thing.” She shrugged casually, more than used to it by now. “I know what my family is like, I know we screw people over on a regular basis. But we’re trying here, to be better people. Actual friends and relationships and everything.” Even Klaus, as volatile and heartbreaking as their relationship still was, was doing better and was calmer in Lawrence than he had ever been in all the centuries before. “There are some people here who still hate us. Some with reason, others just because they’re being asses. But there is a truce in place, we don’t kill anyone, even the people we hate. Well, the person we hate. Elena Gilbert, but really, we have grounds, she murdered our brother.” Which was an entirely fair reason to hate someone, in Rebekah’s own opinion. Her tone was matter of fact, showing no shame or arrogance about the situation. It simple was how it was. Though her expression did soften slightly as she looked at Cami, a woman who had never wronged her as far as she knew. “How bad were we to you?” Her smile was somewhat rueful. “I’m guessing it wasn’t exactly fun going when we came to New Orleans.” ~~~ Yup. Cami was jealous, but also happy for Rebekah, it seemed loved actually suited her well. Cami couldn’t help but wonder if Klaus had not taken it from her so often if she would have been happier, nicer, in New Orleans. Cami of course wasn’t going to say that, instead she just smiled, a real smile, not a fake one. “It sounds really nice.” She said as she waved off Rebekahs next comment. It wasn’t sickening at all, it was actually nice to hear positive things. “I’m starting to get that.” Cami said with a slightly sad smile. “Or at least starting to accept it as best as I can.” She wasn’t going to say it, but she did miss feeling like she knew people, instead of having lost them. Cami nodded. “Let’s just say I have a complicated relationship with your family. Pro’s and Con’s really.” That was about the only way that she could even think about describing it. She wasn’t about to tell Rebekah that she missed some of those complications. That was rather harsh, but then again she felt the same way against the witches who had taken her brother and uncle. She however didn’t add how many people her family had taken from others. Instead she just nodded. “I’ve only ever talked to Elena here, I never knew her at home.” Even though they were from the same world. Cami thought about it for a moment. “That’s complicated too.” She said trying to figure out how to answer that. “Well, there was the normal compulsion, but I think that’s standard.” She said. “Well, at least with vampires from time to time.” Cami’s expression darkened. “At one point I thought I was going insane, there was so much time that I couldn’t remember but I kept leaving clues for myself and it was… difficult.” She thought back to how she found pictures trying to explain Klaus and recorded one of their conversations only to hear it when she didn’t remember any of it. “You used me as leverage once, ruined a pretty nice date too, not that I remembered that until much later.” She smiled. “Really, it was a first date and when are they ever not awkward?” Shrugging she decided it might be weird to keep continuing. “But, fresh starts here right?” Thinking back on it all was… intense. “My relationship with your family isn’t all bad though.” She added with a small shrug. “So, the bar, what do I need to know?” ~~~ Complicated. And wasn’t that just a word that came up time and again when it came to her family. Rebekah wasn’t surprised, if anything she was more taken aback by the fact this woman was willing to even still talk to her after being dragged into the drama that always came with the Mikaelson family. “Hey, the fact you managed to have any pros at all with my family says a lot about you. They, we, must have some respect for you, you’re still alive after all.” She waved off the comment about Elena with a shrug. “Mystic Falls people, kinda do think the world begins and ends with that tiny town sometimes. You probably wouldn’t have spoken to any of them before here anyway.” Some of them, like Caroline and Stefan, deserved to get out there and see the world more. Others, like Elena and Damon, would probably never leave the small pond where they were the biggest fish. Oh well. “Compulsion is pretty standard for us,” she admitted. “Though it’s sloppy work if anyone starts to question things, half memories and all that.” Probably Klaus. He often didn’t bother doing much more than the standard ‘and forget this ever happened’ compulsion. “And that does kinda sound like me.” Rebekah didn’t apologize. Her tone neither sounded contrite or that she was dismissive of what her future self had done. She hadn’t done it, and her future self probably had had a reason. She usually did. Focusing on the bar was easier, and she smiled easily as she turned to let Cami see more of the space. “It’s fairly standard really. Music isn’t all Bon Jovi, despite the jokes, though it’s generally around that sort of theme, or so I’m told. I sort of missed that decade.” Well, century. “Lexi does most of the promotional side of things, Lee handles the business itself. We serve the general public a lot, as well as the displaced, so we do have to be careful about what we say, unless we’re doing a displaced specific event. And we don’t serve minors, even the displaced ones, though they try their luck like crazy. So no under 21s. Occasional exceptions if they’re in the back room there,” she pointed over to the side. “For some kind of event, even if that event is sudden Seal activity or something.” Walking over to the bar, she gestured at the various drinks. “You can probably see the system for where the drinks are, spirits there, beers here, that sort of thing. I think it’s probably more or less what you’re used to already?” ~~~ “It could say a lot of things about me.” Cami laughed. She could think of a lot of things it said about her, some positive, some really not positive. She’d had her fair share of stupid mistakes, and stupid feelings, and well a lot of things, but she figured if she actually got to know Rebekah here and became friends with her, maybe she’d tell her. Her comment about her still being alive, Cami nodded. She actually knew if it came down to it at home, Klaus would protect her in the end. She should be terrified of him, she should be terrified of all vampires, but she wasn’t, and she knew deep down that Marcel and Klaus would protect her for some reason that she still didn’t completely understand. “It kind of sounds like that town just sucks people in.” “It was more complicated than that.” Cami said as Rebekah said the compulsion was probably sloppy, she didn’t think it was, especially given how they always seemed mildly surprised and amused that she’d worked things out. It was painful getting all of those memories that were stolen from her, but she was glad in the end to just know everything, know everything that had happened to her. The truth behind things that made no sense to her, Cami didn’t handle not knowing things well. Cami laughed at the comment about not all of it being Bon Jovi, but didn’t comment on Rebekah’s comment about missing that decade, she’d known about the whole Klaus putting his siblings in a box thing, she knew more than she probably ever really wanted to know. “Sounds about standard for any bar.” Cami said with a shrug, she was used to kicking people out who tried to get in and were under 21 in New Orleans. Her eyes followed to the back room and she nodded at it. “Yeah, this is all really standard and what I’m used to.” Cami smiled. “Are there any special drinks that I should know of? Or anything that’s popular here?” Rebekah and Cami talked more about the locals, what people liked and in general actually just started to get along, which shocked Cami but she’d promised she’d try for Davina so she was going to manage that. ~~~ |
